I've used Simonetti Tailoring on and off for more than 20 years. He's one of the most expensive tailors in town, and I kept going back because of the quality of the work. The problem has always been reliability. I've made countless wasted trips because my alterations weren't finished when promised. Today was the last straw. I waited an extra three weeks beyond the promised date. After waiting more than 30 minutes for him to return to the shop, I learned my clothes still hadn't been altered. Instead of apologizing, he said, "I'm 70 and I don't give an F." That ended it for me. Especially since he likely isn't even doing most of the tailoring himself anymore. Very quick turnaround and beautiful work! I brought Mr. Simonetti two dresses for my brother's wedding only 4 days in advance (oops), one of which was quite elaborate. He never even balked at the timeframe. My family left their dresses with another tailor in the area months prior, and found that that tailor hadn't even started the work the night before. Mr. Simonetti finished my dresses in that 4-day period and they were done before my family's (who now wish they'd gone to Mr. Simonetti in the first place!). Other comments say he's a bit brusque, but my goal was to have my alterations done quickly and properly. They were. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

I went to inquire about a dress alterations. He just stared at me and said nothing. I said sir, is there someone here that I can speak to about an alteration. The older gentleman looked at me and then said, " I am busy and you did not call ahead". Mr. Simonetti has little to No custome service skills and was very rude from our first interaction. Very expensive and rude for what you get. I brought in a dress for a basic hem, which cost me a whopping $45. (Simonetti gave me a $5 discount...) I was in desperate need of a hem and didn't have time to get to my regular tailor, and when I told him that a hem on the exact same dress in a different color cost me $30 at my usual tailor, HE LAUGHED and asked if it was a dry cleaner. No - it isn't. He then explained the price reflected that there was a slip inside the dress. While I get that there are two layers, no alterations were needed, and it was a straight ~2 inch hem. While the hem is came out fine, it definitely isn't worth the amount he charges as no restructuring need to be done, and I'd assume the project did not take a long time to complete. read more

This guy is amazing! He didn't even take measurements and knew exactly what was needed, he had to take out my dress and a velvet corset top I had. He was able to match everything perfectly and it fit like a glove. I did pay $460 for both of these but the amount of work he did on the items was incredible. read more

Mr. Simonetti was difficult to work with. If you choose to receive his services, sign a contract with an estimate of charges. Wedding was two weeks away and Mr. Simonetti had not begun alterations. I tried to schedule a final fitting, and he became angry when our schedules did not align. I tried to take dress to another tailor but he refused to return the gown. Returned the week of wedding to pick up dress and requested a receipt to see cost breakdown because it seemed expensive. He became upset and unprofessional and claimed he did work that he did not do. Returned home to realize he sewed a 5-point bustle into the middle of the back of the satin dress. The thread used for the loops did not match the color of the dress and was so thick it created holes in the fabric. The bustle had to be redone by another tailor the day before the wedding. Had a former professor from FIT look at the gown who confirmed the work should not have been that expensive and no experienced tailor would sew this type of bustle based on the dress style. read more

I went to Simonetti's based on the fantastic Yelp reviews, and he lives up to the hype...I figured if people trust him with their wedding dress, he must be something special - and he was. Mr. Simonetti is from Italy, and has been doing custom tailor work since he was 13 years old. His attention to detail is spectacular, he is timely, and he spares no detail. I had a suit that required tailoring. Unfortunately I have broad shoulders that require me to purchase a larger suit jacket, but then the rest of the jacket is then boxy. My pants only required a hem. Mr. Simonetti was incredibly professional, and meticulous. He made my sleeves the perfect length (realigning my sleeve buttons too), took in the jacket, and hemmed my pants. My suit was returned pressed and perfect. Although my suit was expensive and not as well fitted going in, it looks like it was made for my body walking out the door. I couldn't have imagined what a difference it could make. It looks completely custom. I'll be returning to Mr. Simonetti with any suits, pants, jackets or dresses I have in the future. He was not cheap, but his work is quality...and to be honest, you get what you pay for when it comes to craftmanship. Highly recommended. read more

Peter does a fantastic job tailoring. I called in advance to meet him at 9am, and his assistant did a great job pinning me. He tailored a simple white tunic dress for me which I bought on sale and couldn't return, it was too big and he helped give it more overall shape by raising the shoulders, creating lines in the back, and shortening the sleeves. He worked with me on the pricing and turned it around in a reasonable fashion given that I was going on my honeymoon and wanted to wear that dress. There aren't a lot of people I gather who know what they're doing and a good tailor job to make clothes fit your body better make such a huge difference. I'm considering going back to him to clean and tailor my wedding dress, he is really good. Pietro Simonetti is an excellent tailor and where I will be taking all of my clothes from now on. He is a little more expensive but definitely worth worth the price. I would note one thing - he does not give you a price when you take your clothes in; instead he gives a range. Expect the cost to be at the high end of that range. BUYER BEWARE!! My 16 year old daughter brought in her prom dress to be hemmed. I went to pick it up today and the owner charged me $190 to do a hem on a beaded dress that he said "took alot of work". I went to Mr. Simonetti's shop for the first time based on the great reviews I found Superpages. The first job last fall was simple (pants hemming) and results were fine. The second job I brought him last month, though, was harder: three nice women's dress suits. Two of the suit jackets needed major waist/armhole reworking. And two of the skirts needed to come down two sizes, plus both skirts had fairly complex knee-level pleating. I was delighted with every stitch of work that Pietro Simonetti turned out. Both jackets now accommodate curves beautifully. And both skirts somehow magically fit perfectly, complete with clean, adjusted pleating. Although the cost to do this was not insignificant, I now have three high-quality dress suits that will look virtually perfect for many years to come. Very worth it! Mr. Simonetti was trained in Italy and the States. I think he is highly skilled, as well as very nice and professional. Who new that custom tailors were still a thing? Well they are here, and in old-school fashion at Simonetti tailors. They took apart my dad's 50 year old Air Force overcoat and cut it to fit, and it came out perfect! it was too big in every area - sleeves, shoulders, back....all of it, but it was just right when they were finished. My friend who grew up in Stamford recommended Simonetti when I first moved to Stamford a few years ago and I've used him ever since. He is on the more expensive end but his quality and service are worth it. Get to know him and he will never steer you wrong. He always wants his work to be the best it can and he always wants to make you happy. Most recently he tailored my wedding dress which needed a lot of work: it had to be taken in twice because the bridal salon made me order a size that was way too big, then it had to be let out a bit for comfort, we changed the neckline, we took a foot off the train, we turned a sash into a belt, and they had to create a bustle which was difficult because of the way the skirt draped and wrapped around. read more

I needed an alteration done within a few hours for a wedding the same day, due to the dress I had arriving the night before.... Many other dry cleaners/ tailors turned me away saying it would take half a day+ to shorten the silky gown I had. After almost losing my mind thinking I may not be able to wear it or worse not attend the wedding; I decided to google "same day tailoring" Simonetti popped up, so I called and was nervous he would give me another lecture...But to my relief he calmly told me to bring it in and he would see what he could do. Thank the lord I found this place, he hemmed my dress in 2 hours and steamed it for me. The price was high but I couldn't expect anything less for a same day tailoring. Plus he did a beautiful job! I don't usually write reviews but his work deserves it. Like everyone says, he's expensive so if you need something hemmed or trimmed then maybe this isn't the place. Having said that, I had a $250 Rachel Zoe dress in my closet that I've loved for a very long time even though it doesn't fit my frame or my body shape as well as it probably could (I bought it because the print is gorgeous and it was originally $600 and I can't resist a good deal). Anyway, I brought it in seeing that women trusted their wedding dresses to him. Long story short, not only did Pietro hem this dress, he completely created my vision of what I always wanted this dress to look like (modernized the top part of the dress, added a v neck, and created a tasteful open back). I got a TON of compliments when I wore it to my event and I'm so thankful I finally found a tailor who is basically a designer. So he can handle really simple tailoring projects but also, if you've had something in your closet that you know has a ton of potential, he's the guy to fulfill it. FYI he's crazy fast too. I brought in that dress and another sequined dress that I needed him to reinforce (sequins were falling off in a few places), and he had both dresses done in a week. All the work I've had done here has been fantastic. As other reviewers have noted, it is not cheap, but in my opinion the quality is well worth the cost. I have brought several items to be altered here, each one with lace, applique, or some other feature that made me a bit worried for the outcome, but when I went back to try them on, they were perfect. I had an alteration emergency, as I needed two pairs of pants hemmed on labor day before a business trip the following day. Pietro (Mr. Simonetti) must've been the only tailor in all of fairfield county to have been open. He was kind enough to tailor both of my pants in 1 hour (total), and charged me less than I would've expected to pay for another tailor to take a week.
