Shopping for coffee when you have a brand-new French Press and no idea how to use it can be intimidating (just me?). Making your first foray into bean-buying while on holiday overseas for the first time can wreak havoc on one's nerves, as well. Not the case at Simon Levelt, though!
Situated in full view of the canals, this particular Simon Levelt location is easy to miss, but impossible to forget, The aroma of fresh-milled beans and loose-leaf teas, the clean, uncluttered ambiance, and the patient, helpful staff all make for a wonderful, pressure-free buying experience.
I left with a quarterpound of perfectly ground Mocha Limu Ethiopie Bio, which, according to the shop owner, would be a chocolately-rich, balanced mouthful---perfect for a first time Presser. I'm finishing my last cup as I write this, and already planning on bribing a friend to deliver a re-up, STAT.
If coffee's not your thing, the shop has an extensive tea selection, some amazing-looking chocolate, and a few candy and delicacy offerings scattered about. The pricing is very reasonable, as well---the average pound costs between 15-21 USD.
A great place to get your caffeine fix or boost your brewing game, Simon Levelt is firmly on this traveler's must-visit list! read more
