Matt is the guy for solar if you live in Ramona. Super professional and 100% honest, which is extremely rare to find in this industry. We had Enver Solar install our system, big mistake. They offered a lifetime warranty but are out of business and won't answer our calls. What a nightmare. Matt Simms was recommended to us by a friend in Ramona. What a relief to hear a solar guy someone actually recommends. Well now we know why. Matt came to our house to do a checkup on our system and everything works fine now. He gave me a great education inside and outside of my home. Several times he had the opportunity to try to sell me something but he never took advantage. I was really floored by how honest Matt was. DO NOT use Simms Solar. After completing our install in-December 2025, and full payment against the contract, we are still without any solar power. He said at the time he was still waiting authorization from SDG&E to have our system approved before 'going live'. It is now end April and we still have not had the Solar 'approved and connected'. I subsequently made inquiries on the Contractors State Licensing Board (CSLB) website, to learn his license is under suspension. He did not disclose this at anytime, albeit the CSLB states "The licensee is not entitled to operate during the period of suspension until certain requirements are met." On checking with SDGE they have advised that the solar permit application submitted by the contractor had expired. All attempts to get Simms Solar Inc to submit the required permit have failed. I am pursuing his illegal operation with the CSLB. Matt Simms lacks integrity and ethics insofar as his professional behavior and operations. He is not to be trusted. read more

Don't do business with Simms solar. At the very end of our project, we needed to complete the interconnection with SDGE. Matt has not responded to any of my calls or texts to get this done after saying all along that "we're good to go". After calling the county they have no record of any plans submitted which he said he did. Furthermore the inspector noticed many panels install incorrectly as well as other system components. Now I am having to pay another company over $20K to fix his mistakes. We are taking Simms solar to court and moving forward with litigation. Do not do business with Simms solar. read more

He "ghosted" us after panel and battery install, didn't finish the final project requirements necessary for passing city inspection, never filed the necessary application with SDGE (which should have been done before install), and never filed the battery rebate application when he went as far as to tell us the application review was in "final stages". Beyond unethical. Took full payment up front. This was back in late 2024 and we JUST got permission to operate. Sadly, I see he is still doing this to others. read more

We hired Matt Simms to install our solar panels back in 2023. It was nothing but a headache since they don't know the local protocols in my city, which I was able to find on the city's website. It took more than 6 months and a lot of calls and emails to get the solar up and running. Fast forward to November 2025, I cannot get my internet to connect to the panels, so I texted Matt Simms for help. He said someone will come out next week Wednesday. Wednesday came and went, no one came out, so I texted him again. He said he will come out himself the following day. The next day came and went. Now he's not responding to my text messages. We recently hired Simms to do a solar install project on our home and it has NOT gone anywhere close to planned. We signed the contract in early August 2022 and the panels were installed in late September. The panels were NOT installed per the agreed upon site plan and two of the panels are severely shaded by the other installed panels and producing about 50% of the other panels. However, that's the least of the issues we're facing. They installed the panels before officially getting the city permit and after many weeks of saying they were waiting on the city, I contacted the city and found out that the permit was never submitted. Upon confronting Simms with this info, they then submitted the permit in late December and it failed permit review. They never corrected the permit submission and have now ghosted us. They no longer return calls or emails. So the current state is an unpermitted install not to plan with NEM 3.0 coming very soon with potentially large financial implications. They've left us high and dry with no clear path on completing the project in time for NEM 3.0. There are more trustworthy solar companies to do business with so look elsewhere. read more

Matt came highly recommended by two separate coworkers that both got their systems installed by him. I have been wanting to install solar for several years so far but unfortunately had some personal matters to take care with the home before beginning to make upgrades. But I saw the writing on the wall, the tax credit for solar is going to be reduced in 2020 and the utility companies are going to push for even more restrictions when Net Metering 3.0 comes out within the next year or so, I knew I had to act now to make solar even more worthwhile. I contacted Matt via phone and to get a estimate, all he needed was recent SDGE bill in order to figure out my usage and what size system I needed. He got back to me within an hour or so with both a purchase price and a financing price. The estimate clearly laid out total price, where the panels would be placed on my roof, interest rates and the estimated savings I would receive over 25 years (the typical life of most panels). That's pretty good for a contractor, most struggle to get you full estimates quickly or want to waste your time chitchatting about how good their company is, but Matt got straight to the point which is awesome. Since the panels last for 25 years or so and my roof was original since I moved in over a decade ago, I thought it was a good idea to get it replaced. Matt was able to get some roofers to look at my house and give me a estimate within the same week. I took their estimate and went to another coworkers friend who does roofs and got the process going. Even though I didn't use Matt's roofer, he was very patient in the process of waiting for it to get replaced. The very next week after my roof was done, the system was installed and it looks beautiful. The pipe run looks clean, install overall looks very professional. Matt did all the necessary work of submitting plans, pulling permits and making the process go smoothly with the city and power comapny. My system got turned on and now my panels are making me power. The meter spins backwards for the majority of the daylight hours no matter how much stuff I got running in the house, which means no more overage charges. I'd love to say that I went solar to help the planet, which is great and all. But the main reason is because SDG&E is the worst. Everything they've done is to overcharge San Diego residents for power, we pay more for electricity than almost anyone else.  I'm glad to know that I won't be getting screwed every summer when I turn on my AC. I'd like to thank Matt for the professional install and I would gladly recommend his company to anyone for their solar needs. read more

The owner, Matt Simms, was our lead contact throughout the project and was always responsive to questions throughout the project. It was a pretty big job since we also were having a new roof installed at the same time. Simms Solar worked hand-in-hand with the roofers so that there were no down times. Both projects were done on time with the schedule we were promised at the outset. I waited one year to write this review because I wanted to verify that the bottom line cost to us was what was promised. We just received our 1 year "True Up" statement. In a year that we used our AC and heater more than normal, we ended up with a $200 credit with our utility company! Bottom line was that there were no 'negative surprises' in getting the solar system. I give Simms Solar my highest recommendation as they were great during the bidding, installing, follow up questions, and the results were as promised. Its also nice having the owner be the contact person as Matt has a strong incentive to perform as promised.
