Ask the Community - Simmons Foot and Ankle

I have had bunion surgery by you but now I have a foot trying to turn so that my shoe rubs on the outer side of my foot. I had polio and that might be the turning problem. Can you make a soft orthotic to stop the pain?

We can make a soft orthotic yes. As far as helping your pain it is possible but we would have to go into more details about your situation to see how much an orthotic would actually help that specific condition.

    Does the office provide MRI?

Hi. We have in-house X-ray but we can write orders and refer out to an imaging center for MRI

Are you familiar with a condition called Arthrogryposis?

I know about the condition, however, I cannot say I have actively treated anyone for it

I had an MRI on my foot earlier this week and there seems to be several things in the report. is it best to see a podiatrist or an orthopedist at this point? This has been going on for almost a year and I'm needing to find someone to help me.

Most orthopedists do not treat foot and ankle problems. Every podiatrist does. There are always some good and bad doctors of any specialty out there but overall you will get better care for the foot with a podiatrist. We would love to help you if… Read more

I see they do sports medicine, but do they only treat foot and ankle or other parts of the body?

Hi Mick. We only do foot and ankle at this location. Thanks for asking.

Does he deal with diabetic patients?

Hi Prince L. Yes, we treat diabetic patients everyday. We can do it all including general diabetic foot exams, toenail cutting, callus trimming, neuropathy testing, and wound care.… Read more

Is there is more money in attempted repair than the TKR I had originally requested? I now wonder. Regardless, it has been just over a week; I am off pain killers and moving around with only a cane. I can even walk a little on even ground unassisted. With Weinstein and I couldn't walk properly for months. So after four months I went went back and complained to his face... which was a complete waste of time. My advice (and I did it this time) get multiple opinions, recommendations and do not let your self get sweet talked. Also pick a surgeon that specializes in the particular joint you are replacing or at least that are of the body, not one that can, or does, replace all sorts of other body parts.

I am a competitive powerlifter and I tore my vastus lateralis muscle (one of the quad muscles) attempting to squat 650lbs in a competition. It was nearly a full rupture of the quad muscle and my 28 inch thigh swelled up to well above 30 inches in circumference. Due to the nature of the injury it was imperative to get it looked at and operated on quickly. The staff at SOS got me in and out faster than I would have anywhere else. I got an MRI scheduled the same day as my initial appointment, and a surgery within ~2 weeks, even around the Thanksgiving holiday. Marissa at the front desk is always happy to help and made scheduling and payments a breeze. The X-ray technicians are friendly and accommodating especially when I could hardly move my leg. The PAs and doctors are great and were very mindful when removing stitches. Dr. Weinstein is everything I wanted in my surgeon. He is very knowledgeable and to the point. He won't lie to you or beat around the bush. He gave me the pros and cons of surgery and the possible outcomes with the various choices I had. The surgery itself was very successful and I am nearly back to where I was. He has taken the extra steps to make sure I get back to my goals of squatting heavy again and not stopping at "it's good enough". He treated me like a powerlifter and never once suggested that I should give up on squatting, which was incredibly helpful mentally, especially right after the injury.

Place is spotless and they have a good "new patient " deal to start off with. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a chiropractor and / or physical therapy. Thanks!

He indicated achilles surgery might be needed. Then he joined a medical group, and we sort of wandered away. The second podiatrist went straight to surgery, which we consented to. Basically, detach the achilles, file down the spur, and reattach. After all that, the problem isn't any better than it was. Enter Dr Rowe. He evaluated the foot, and then ordered a series of MRI images to be taken. In hindsight, I have to wonder why the previous guys didn't do that! His conclusion: of course the achilles surgery didn't work because the calf muscle is a bit too short. So the spur is growing again because the underlying problem wasn't fixed. The calf needs to be lengthened. He was very up-front, very friendly, and not rushed. He stayed until all our questions were answered. We've declined for now, but I was impressed that he wanted detailed pictures to see what was really going on, and then made a suggestion that made sense. I think we have a new podiatrist. I suspect that surgery will happen, but for now we're going to live with it.
