I stumbled upon this office by doing a little Google, Yelp search and decided to try them due to good reviews and also because it's less than 5 mins from my work so going to appts would be super easy. I'm very pleased I tried this office as the doctor and staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. I was able to get new orthotics done for my shoes and they fit nicely. Super happy for that! Dr. Simmons was recommended to me by a very good physical therapist. He said that Dr. Simmons was excellent and he was right! He is one of the most gentle and caring doctors I have ever met. Wow, super impressed. Had a super bad ingrown come on out of nowhere. Was able to book for next day through ZocDoc and submit insurance so I was ready to go. Office was clean, quick and the front desk girl was lovely. Doctor was prompt, explained what was happening, did the procedure and I was on my way. I was diagnosed with a very rare condition, Plantar Fibroma (not to be confused with Plantar Fasciitis a much more common condition). It is a condition that produces painful growths on the bottom of the foot making it impossible to walk. The doctor that initially diagnosed me looked at me with a sincere pity in his eyes and I knew this was a very serious disease! He didn't offer treatment. He basically said when it gets worse, surgery would be my only option. He proceeded to tell me of the potential complications and I decided surgery was NOT an option. I met with doctor after doctor seeking someone who would offer me a treatment option other than surgery! When I refused surgery, some recommended other options that all failed. I met with OVER 10 podiatrists!! I was desperate!! I consulted with what are considered the TOP podiatrists in the Valley!! I then discovered a Facebook page for those diagnosed with Plantar Fibroma. There was hope for successful treatment without surgery!! Unfortunately, there are very few doctors in the United States that offer this particular and typically successful treatment. I found Dr. Shaun Simmons' name on this Facebook page! I consulted with him and arranged a very minimally invasive procedure. The first treatment was a success!!!! I will need a couple follow up treatments to kick it fully, but the first treatment made a HUGE difference already! The other doctors that recommended surgery told me just some of the very many risks were: The scar tissue hurting worse than the nodules, pain 24/7 versus just when I stand, the incision not healing and/or the incision getting an infection "which could result in the amputation" of my feet!!! If none of that 'fun' stuff happened, I would have to have surgery one foot at a time and stay off each foot for couple months and no driving! Beyond all of the aforementioned bad news, the surgery could aggravate the condition and cause the nodules to multiply and require further surgeries!! If an infection didn't get me, eventually the scar tissue from multiple surgeries could leave me in a place where they could no longer do surgery, so we are back at the amputation option to remedy the condition and the pain! I don't care what foot condition you have, Dr. Shaun Simmons is THE doctor to treat it!! I was so impressed with Dr. Simmons!! He is one of ONLY TWO doctors in the state of Arizona that I was able to find that offers this particular treatment to treat my condition. I asked Dr. Simmons why he got involved with treating this condition. His response to me was that he had a patient that he diagnosed with this condition. He did RESEARCH (unlike the previous 10 plus doctors that I saw prior to him) to find the best treatment option because he knew that surgery was a very bad option! He was proactive in seeking out he very best and most cutting edge treatment option(s) available for his patient!! Don't go to some old geezer who is stuck in the past and isn't willing to explore new and better options to fix you up because THEY THINK they know everything already!! Thank you Dr. Shaun Simmons!!! This was literally the worst appointment. The physician basically told me he didn't know where my foot pain stemmed from but, if I wanted to keep going with expensive diagnostics then I could. He made it seem like the ingrown toenails and arch and heel pain I had were just in my head. He talked in circles for 25 mins and I abruptly left because he clearly was unsure what I needed and was not willing to offer his opinion other than he didn't think he could do much. So I paid a $40 copay to hear him talk and have him be abrasive towards me. I will never in a million years recommend him or return to that office. Oh! And so much for HIPPA. He left my exam door open for all to hear my consult. Horrible practice. read more

Was able to schedule an appointment quickly (same week), filled out quick paperwork and was taken back right away, Doctor was to-the-point and had good bedside manner; he explained different options but listened to what I wanted to do (both toes for ingrown toenails). He got right to work and the procedure was quick and easier than I thought, not painful and so far recovery is going well. When I had a question I sent in a picture to their email and received a reply the very next day. Followup appointment soon and grateful to have found a good establishment like this one. read more

I saw this doctor 4 years ago for my toe nail that appeared to have a nail fungus. He clipped off a small piece of my nail and sent it in for testing. It Came back negative- (think he needed to sample under my nail) . He suggested to cut my toe nail all the way back so it would grow back normal and that it wouldn't be very painful. My toe throbbed on and off for over a month ( very painful) and it didn't fix the problem. I eventually Went to a new doctor and she confirmed within minutes of looking at it that it was a nail fungus. A simple cream would have done the job. Ugh. read more

I went in for a foot issue that was more of a mild annoyance but I thought would be nice to figure out what was wrong and move forward. Dr Simmons suggested numbing it, cutting into my foot and completely removing the offending area. I hadn't had any previous foot issues, and since he was the doctor, I quickly agreed and he was finished in about 10 minutes. The next few weeks I couldn't go about my normal exercise routine as I tried to give my foot time to heal. After a month or so of healing, my foot was feeling better for about two weeks or so. Then it became extremely painful to the point I could barely walk on it and I scheduled a new appointment. Imagine my surprise when Dr Simmons advice was to try the same approach as before, meaning another month or so of painful healing and then I could possibly be facing the same issue again. Not to mention that his approach the first time had only made the issue much much more painful than before without actually healing it. I decided to go see a different foot doctor for a second opinion and that's when all the issues with Dr Simmons became very apparent. If he suggests cutting into your foot to heal the issue, I would immediately go to another foot doctor for a second opinion. You could save yourself a lot of pain. Also, there were very basic items other doctors immediately offered to help remove the pressure to my hurt foot that Dr Simmons never mentioned in the three different appointments I had with him. I would not recommend going to Dr Simmons for foot issues. read more

I've had constant ingrown toe issues ever since starting high school and getting a leg injury that lead me to a lifetime of walking with a limp which apparently isn't the best for toes. For 14 or so years I saw a podiatrist who was of the old school mindset as well as one other who was more modern but not very good - both of them had me in a LOT OF PAIN pretty much every time I went. Sometimes they'd even go digging into my toe without any anesthetic at all making it feel not far from torture, but I didn't know any better and it worked in the end and it was always a joy seeing the podiatrist I had known since childhood so I kept going without questioning it. Even when they did use numbing agents they were never successful and I could feel everything PLUS had to feel about 7 needles being stabbed into the toe first and being stuck sitting there for 30-45 minutes while they hoped and waited it would kick in. The difference between them and Dr. Simmons is really seriously amazing. Coming here I was worried and prepared for more of that - instead after being greeted by the doctor himself (mostly because I got there so early by mistake) and filling out some very short paperwork he gave my toe the shot and the spray and it was completely numb in 30 SECONDS rather than 30 MINUTES and it was more numb than I realized was possible. I could feel NOTHING, not even a tugging, pulling, or any sort of pressure, it was like nothing was happening at all and he even did the nerve thing to make it so the nail won't grow back into the toe again. It was almost unbelievable after all those experiences of ingrown toe removals almost once every few months for over a decade to finally have one done so well and so painlessly even with the nerve killing thing thrown in to keep it from happening again. I did get some really serious pain the next day, but this lasted about 8 hours starting when I woke up. Since then, no issues. On top of that, Dr. Simmons is extremely personable and makes you comfortable with total ease. Even for someone like me with severe social anxiety and agoraphobia, I didn't feel any nervousness or problems once I actually met him. He also saw me almost an hour early because I had vastly over estimated how far the place was and I ended up out of the office BEFORE my appointment time actually hit. There's also something just humble about the place in a very positive way. I absolutely recommend coming here if you've got issues with your feet, especially if it's something you deal with often as this is totally a place you won't dread coming back to. read more

I saw Dr. Simmons and he was so kind. He knew exactly what needed to be done to alleviate my pain. He walked me through the procedure in an intelligible manner, that was easy to understand but didn't sound condescending. All of my questions, however stupid they were, were taken seriously and answered to my satisfaction. He was patient and made sure I was comfortable with the procedure and my understanding of it before continuing. His staff was super accommodating to my schedule and they worked with me to find the best time for my busy schedule. There was hardly a wait, I had barely sat down after checking in when I was called back to be seen. I was surprised how little of a wait there was. They charged my insurance 450 and then I got a bill for 263.16!!!!! How does that happen! price gouging and taking advantage of patients! Dr.Simmons is amazing. My husband had plantar fasciitis, and Dr.Simmons did surgery on both of his feet (after trying less invasive options). I feel like he gave us our lives back. My husband could barely walk. This morning we walked 3 miles. So, so thankful. Dr. Simmons is so flexible with appointment scheduling, always on time, easy going, and professional. My Wife called for me on a Friday around 10:30 AM to see if I could get an appointment for an ingrown toenail, Dr. Shaun himself answered the phone and said that they were actually closed on Fridays. After my wife explained the situation he actually said that he would do the procedure for me if we could be there at 2:30 PM. We met him at the office at 2:30 and he did the surgery and I will say it was the most painless extraction I have ever had. It has been 5 days now and it is almost completely healed. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He is a great doctor and a very nice person. I sure appreciated him taking me in on such short notice and on a day his office was actually closed.
