After a quick tutorial from the host & server we dove right it. We ordered from our table's personal touch screen what we wanted and minutes later the sushi chef brought our plate. We kept ordering more and enjoyed watching the chef prepare each meal right before us. The coolest part is watching the parade of plates on the conveyor belt that you can grab to eat. They said you could order too. They give you your order (it's a half roll) and put the rest on the belt (other half of the roll). Bathrooms are shared with the building, and not the cleanest. Staff was okay. Seating was right- booth for four was on the small side. I would come when it's busy because maybe the chef will put more sushi out than the spicy tuna ones. Fun overall. We've had Sima twice now and they are very consistent and delicious! The food is fresh and tasteful and the staff is attentive and you can call them on the iPad if you need them. My coworkers and I came here in a quiet Friday for lunch before we were off for the holidays. They had the conveyer belt sushi. This place has been on our list to try. We were allowed to sit whereever was open. We also had a server come to our table, who was very quick. They had an iPad to order food too and we had the sushi chef give the food directly to our table. While we were looking at the menu, they had sushi come around on the conveyer belt, which I indulged in. All the sushi was great. I got mochi ice cream - green tea, which was okay. I hate giving one star reviews, however, I don't write many of them and have close to 2500 reviews, so trust me when I write bad reviews. I walked into this place around 7:30pm after a nice 5 mile jog and was pretty hungry. First, when I walked in, seemed there was no one working the hostess station. The solo guy in front of me was also waiting. Someone did show up and then asked him if he wanted a table or sit at the bar, he opted for the bar. I was next and I was also dining solo, I also asked to sit at the bar. I sat down and wasn't really greeted by anyone. There was a tablet where you could order, so I started looking thru it. I tried ordering a Highball beer and seemed the order was placed. Then, I tried ordering a grilled cod and added a tuna tataki and hoped the order went thru. The solo guy sitting next to me was then greeted by the sushi chef and he wasn't sure either if his order went thru and said he ordered a beer and some rolls and at this point, I also chimed in since I was siting so close, I was like, yea, I also ordered a beer, grilled cod and tuna tataki. At this point, the sushi chef says to me, we are out of eel, tuna and some other seafood I can't remember. So, then I asked, "should I just not order from the tablet?" He then looked at me like he was going to punch me, and I'm like, ok, what did I do? He then says, "no, you can order from the tablet, we don't have tuna, but we have belly." And then just went back to making sushi. The hostess/waitress at this point does check on the solo guy next to me, and then just disappears, even though I am sitting right there, and to give her credit, she did bring me a glass of water. However, for about 15 minutes, I just literally sat there and no idea what was going on honestly. The conveyor belt sushi wasn't anything I wanted, and since service was pretty absent and pretty much no communication from any of the staff and when there was communication, it was tense, I just decided I wasn't gonna dine here, so I just walked out. I've always wanted to try conveyor belt sushi. And it just happened to be very convenient where we were at that afternoon. The quality of sushi was good. However, the portion prices were not so good. When you pull a plate you get charged for what you normally pay for a full roll but I end up getting half that. The prices are based off a plate color and some of the plate colors are hard to determine. Service is good and attentive. You can request special sushi either by talking to the chefs or input into the iPad at your table. Again, as good experience as it was. It would not return because it gets pretty pricey. The place is pretty small. We've tried other conveyer belt sushi and while i am a human garbage can and will eat whatever, the quality of the other guys' sushi doesn't quite meet my boyfriend's standards. Stopped by with two friends for casual sushi lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We had low expectations considering it is conveyer belt sushi - and we're not fans of Kura sushi. But this place surprised us! It was reminiscent of some conveyer belt sushi I had in Japan! Quality was great, pieces of fish were nice and thick. Prices are a bit high, but that's to be expected in DC. We were surprised by how many things we're rotating around on the conveyer belt - most everything we ate was right off it. Came to Sima Sushi on a Sunday for lunch. It is a Japanese style revolving sushi restaurant where sushi plates move around on conveyor belts and you can grab whatever you like in front of you. Each plate is color coded for pricing. It is a fun place. The restaurant located in NW DC. Parking wasn't too bad, took us 5-10 mins to find a street parking. Inside the restaurant, it is pretty bright and clean but small, with few tables and bar seating. We didn't have a reservation but were able to sit at the bar right away. That said, there weren't many customer and the conveyor belts wasn't very full (I am not sure if there is any direct relationship), but it kinda took away the fun part of picking the sushi from the belt. Many items on the belts were just pictures not the real food. You can still order things you like on the tablet, but kinda disappointed about the revolving sushi experience. Still, sushi itself was better than expected. It is fresh and tasty. I had like 9-10 plates and my favorites are salmon, cheese garlic scallop and sweet shrimp and the shrimp tempura. As a former Chicagoan, there are many things I miss about my old home. One of which is our plethora of rotating sushi places, so I was super excited after passing this place a few months ago. I finally ventured in this evening, and I was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly upon our arrival. The restaurant space is fairly small, and it was pretty full for a Monday evening in downtown at 7 pm. At your booth, you can pick different plates that are color coded based on price. The plates range from $3.5 to $9.95 for rolls. You can also order items directly on an iPad at your table. We selected items both from the conveyer belt and the iPad and walked out spending under $50. I found that the quality of the sushi and the price were totally worth it. There may be fancier or nicer places to venture in town for rolls, but sometimes you just want a neighborhood spot where you can eat plenty of food without breaking your piggy bank. The belt was sending sushi that did not have the correct labeling and some items were there the entire hour plus we sat. They ran out of regular tuna and the only thing available was the expensive toro, which we did have and truly enjoy, but we eat tuna sushi rolls. For there not to be any tuna sushi available really took away. We did end up spending $150+ and went down the street to another restaurant to eat since we threw away more food than we were able to stomach.
