In short: Good sushi, friendly staff, good atmosphere. Maybe one of the best places for sushi in downtown Kingston, good prices. We've been here a few times and although we have ordered different items from their menu, a must-have is their sushi pizza. We ALWAYS order the portobello mushrooms sushi pizza. No, it's not a real pizza, so don't worry. Go for it! We remember it with love and it's something you don't usually find in sushi restaurants, and if you do they do not compare to the one serve here. read more

We are sushi lovers and have travelled the globe..literally..eating sushi everywhere, from Japan to everywhere.. you name it ....and we actually travel from Montreal to Kingston just to eat the sashimi at Sima Sushi..it is just amazing. It is super fresh, large portion. Service is fantastic. How to explain such a little treasure in Kingston, Ontario. We advise the chirashi dinner as it is so yummy..best sushi in Kingston and anywhere by far.. Catherine Montreal, PQ. read more

The sushi was very good, they served it fast. The rolls were huge and they came with free Miso soup. The entrees were also abundant and very good we spent 25% less than in a similar place in the USA read more

The portions were very generous! The sashimis are humongous! The pink flower was very good, it was our favourite in the selection we had. It is a small restaurant, you are squeezed with all the table (we had the hairs of an other customer on our table). And I order the beer Asahi, and we brought me a Sapporo... So the food is super, but better take it to go, then eating there. read more

I was very surprised with the high quality sushi (and asian food in general) in Kingston. The rolls were large (though a bit too filled with cucumber for my liking), the location is great, atmosphere is cute, and overall a great experience. Service was good as well! Nomnomnom.. read more

Sima Sushi - Japanese Near Me - Kingston, Ontario

During the couple of years I lived in Kingston, Sima Sushi has been my go-to sushi staple. I grew up in Toronto and was pretty much spoiled for sushi options, but Kingston definitely delivered in fresh fish and sushi deliciousness. Sima is definitely one of the best options in the city - the fish was always fresh, the sashimi in thick, thick cuts and everyone was so very friendly. The owner June and I got to know each other during my studies in Kingston, and she was always so kind, offering additional goodies on top of my go-to specialty roll options. I made an effort to always bring my parents here, and they loved Sima as much as I did. The other non-sushi options, such as the gyoza, chicken teriyaki, etc. is pretty good too. I make a special effort to stop by and eat at Sima every time I have to drive to Ottawa/Montreal. It holds a more special place in my heart than my Bachelors degree. read more

I arrived in Kingston a mere hour ago, and I'm already in love. This place is just a couple of blocks from the waterfront, and a short walk from my hotel. I can easily say that this is the best sushi I've ever had. It's like they made their menu specifically for my personal tastebuds. I almost didn't come to this spot because it is rather freezing outside, but decided to go for it. They serve a lovely hot tea of sorts instead of water. Between that and the miso soup, I was instantly warm. I am a salmon fan, so I ordered the double salmon roll. At the last minute, I flipped the page and spotted a butternut squash tempura roll, and my curiosity was instantly peaked. I added that too. Divine. Salmon two ways...yum. The butternut squash roll was crazy good. Glad I stopped in. read more

This is my wife's favourite restaurant in Kingston, and frankly the only thing I like about Kingston. We stop by Sima every time we drive by Kingston, and I mean every time because the sushi is that good! Very tasty and creative rolls and the fish is always fresh. Will continue to return! read more

Wow, very solid sushi places. Did not expect this for Kingston sushi. Better than a lot of Toronto places. I got chirashi and the portions were large and fish was uber fresh. The pieces were quite big and our meal came with salad, miso soup and complementary edamame. The price point was about $18 but for the portions and quality, I felt it was reasonable. read more

Sima Sushi - Chirashi - $18.95 - Japanese Near Me - Kingston, Ontario

A new sushi joint in downtown Kingston which is a decent addition to the scene. A small place well located downtown. The chirashi is solid with quality fresh fish. Small, manageable cuts. A slightly strange seasoned squid and rice but overall as good as anything else in the area. California roll was well constructed and above average. The emphasis seems mostly on quality sushi although I'll try the hot stuff next time. Overall, another welcome option to the limited Japanese/sushi options in town. Convenient location for me but if I have a real craving, I'm still headed north on Princess to Discover Japan or Sushi Ya. read more

I'm surprised to see so many sushi joints around the Kingston towndown area. I'm quite spoiled when it comes to quality of sushi. The quality of the sushi at Sima Sushi was just okay for me. The cut of the sashimi is way too large and takes away the delicate taste of the fish and instead leaves a greasy/fat taste in the mouth. The freshness is also so-so. Not super impressed about the place but the portion is large for the price. read more

Checked Yelp for a sushi restaurant as I drove through on my way to Montreal. Sima Sushi had the best rating so I stopped by. The restaurant look's great, not like your traditional sushi spot. Exposed brick walls, cool modern artwork, old plank flooring and high beam ceilings. Like other Japanese restaurant, seating is a little tight. Service was excellent. The two servers were very attentive and quickly refilled our cups of tea every time my glass neared empty. I would say the Sushi was average quality and the menu was a mix of sushi combos and specialty rolls. Unfortunately, the rice tended to fall apart when you picked up each piece with your chopsticks. I had one of the sushi combos which included 2 pieces of Salmon, one Ebi, one each of Red & White Tuna and 6 california rolls. Prices are relatively low with my combo at $9.99. They had a number of house rolls. The Rock Star was good which is a combination of a traditional Dynamite roll and spicy tuna roll. The rainbow roll was OK. Great service, cool atmosphere and decent sushi at a good price. I would go again if in the area. I have to disagree with the multiple 5 star reviews, the sushi is just not that good and there are limited types of fish on the menu. BK read more

I lived in Kingston for 8 years, and had been frequenting Sima for about 2 of my last ones. Being away from the city for a year and coming back for a few days, I definitely needed to hit it up - just as amazing as it always was. The staff are super friendly and accommodating to dietary needs, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the food is fresh and delicious. My favorite sushi spot in Kingston! read more

Sima Sushi - Veggie combo (yam roll and avo/cucumber roll) with miso soup and salad - Japanese Near Me - Kingston, Ontario

The restaurant is a convenient location. I ordered spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon tempura roll. The spicy tuna roll was more spicy than usual but I like it. The spicy salmon tempura was very good. We got miso soup complimentary with our food read more

One of the better sushi joints in Kingston. I had the Sima Lunch Set (sashimi, sushi, california roll and comes with miso soup and salad but the latter two aren't anything special) and everything was very fresh and beautifully plated. It is always a delight when there is an extra piece of sashimi on the plate -- I got 7 pieces whereas the menu says 6 pieces! I also had tako yaki as a starter. I became a big fan of tako yaki during my visit to Osaka (the home of). Nothing in North America comes close but this place had one of the best tako yaki that I've tasted outside of Japan. An order is a plate of four balls, each with a big octopus chunk inside (unlike some places that skimp on the octo), nicely deep fried, and yummy gooeyness on the inside. If it's on the Specials board and you haven't tried tako yaki before, I'd recommend it highly. read more

Really enjoyed this place. The specialty rolls are HUGE - I was stuffed after eating one and a half rolls. Also loved that the rolls had tons of filling inside and weren't big rolls of rice. You can substitute for brown rice for $1.50 which I thought was a great option. It gets really busy here, even on weeknights and the dining room is pretty small, so try and come early if you don't want to wait for a table. read more

Excellent sashimi and sushi. Definitely try the eel rice! Waitress are all very well mannered and thoughtful. They even bought our infant those cute little children's chopsticks. read more

Had their food delivered for a meeting, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The fish was fresh, and the rolls were tightly packed. It had a variety of assortment of types of sushi, and I was pleasantly surprised by all that they offered. Compared to other sushi places that I have been to, Sima Sushi is definitely one of the best in Kingston. However, I would say that it is a bit pricier than I would like it to be. Would like to go again to see the dining experience! read more

Great food! Was recommended by a co-worker and went for a staff goodbye party ! Won't try anywhere else

Was our favorite place (now a close second) to go for sushi in Kingston. The sushi is fresh and always good. If you're going for lunch, get the Sima Lunch Set. Good deal and a good variety of sushi. Great location and the service is always amazing! Reservations are recommended. read more

The only sushi we have eaten in Kingston so hard to compare, but the focus seemed to be on large quantities of sushi with lots of sauce and not on quality ingredients. The best option is to stick to their less expensive rolls that are simpler and more straight forward. Service was good, but a little overpriced in our opinion. read more

I`ve taken my daughter here a few times who goes to Queens. It has a lot of vegetarian options and is centrally located. The location is always busy so there might be a wait but, in Kingston, it is your best option. The fish is very fresh and the prices are reasonable. read more

One of the hallmarks of the Kingston food scene, offering sushi dishes that give downtown Toronto elites a run for their money. The owners used to own a high end restaurant in Toronto, but later moved to Kingston for a calmer environment. Ingredients are shipped fresh from Toronto frequently. Sushi dishes are executed with admirable culinary precision and finesse, and service is excellent. The only setbacks are its far location for the Queen's campus and its lack of capacity, which were both addressed when it opened Sima Kitchen in 2013.. The food speaks for itself -- 5 stars, hands down. read more

Excellent lunch special. This is possibly the best sushi spot in Kingston. Try the sweet potato sushi

Not sure if I've been spoiled with living in Halifax and the availability of fresh fish but I found Sima Sushi extremely underwhelming. The butterfish was definitely not fresh, even though we asked our server to ask the chef what was fresh that day, to which the server seemed annoyed that we didn't want their opinion when they offered it. The service is mediocre there. They don't pay very much attention to whether you need top up on drinks or when you're done your meal and need your plates cleared. They are friendly but just inattentive. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time I went, but unfortunately it wasn't much better the second. I don't mind paying a bit more for higher quality sushi, and fantastic service, but this was overpriced for the unsatisfactory sushi experience we got. I don't think I'll be going back. read more

Outstanding quality of fish. I had the sushi and sashimi combo, it was terrific! Very thick cut, fresh. I wish I lived in this town- sad I just travel here read more

This place is one of the best in town for sure. I went here to celebrate with my family after my sister's graduation from Queens. The special ROLLS were the standout. Pretty much all of them were A+ from their size to their flavour and quality. Priced pretty affordably but it's not a steal so I reserve that extra star. read more

Recently moved to Kingston and decided to try out some new places! And safe to say I'll definitely be going back to this restaurant! Great food, friendly & prompt service. Don't often find kalamari tempura on the menu!

Not much more to add than what's already been said. Sima has the best sushi in town. The lunch specials are a great deal, and it can get pretty busy at lunch time. Evenings are packed. It's too bad they don't take reservations. Another note - the restaurant is a bit on the small size. Might not be the best place to go as a large group. read more

Inexpensive but tasty sushi. Great location for if you're out shopping downtown and want a quick bite.

Best sushi place in Kingston. No other restaurants have sushi quite add tasty and fresh.

Sorry but sushi was OK but the slimy floors and flies really turned me off. Not much for the soup that comes before the meal either. Green tea not good I would skip this place. Yelp mislead me on this one. read more

Big Japanese cuisine fan. Very much enjoyed the meal. Sashimi a little too thick but tasted good. End of meal, I used the washroom. Up the old crickety staircase that hadn't been vacuumed since the 80's it seemed. The men's washroom was absolutely disgusting. I chose to go elsewhere and spoke to who I think was the Manager on the way out. He immediately turned to the two SUSHI CHEFS and started freaking on them in Japanese! Again....meal was quite good. Service ok. Bathrooms.....I'm sorry.....that can ruin everything. I've seen really bad, but this was the worst. read more

I was expecting too much, after I saw a lot of great reviews from Yelp. But, to be honest, it was not fresh when I tried this restaurant. If you stay there or have a chance to come by this town, you can try. But, you don't need to come looking for great Sushi. read more
