When my mother died in 2017 I inherited her home and I continued with Longs using her account until 2024 when I put the account in my name. In August 2025 I received a bill of 80.00 for tank rental fee for a year. I called Kohler propane in Brown City and they said they wouldn't charge me a rental fee if they installed a 120 gallon tank and I used at least 200 gallons a year. Long's never offered to swap out their 250 gallon tank for a smaller one, Peggy the office lady at Long's said that I signed the contract therefor I have to pay the fee , she is right and I paid the fee and then I promptly switched to Kohler. The people there are very professional and great to talk to unlike Peggy in Long's Yale office. In my opinion charging a tank rental fee is a sure fire way to lose customers.

The attitude you when you call in to request a fill and if you've ever run out of propane, they require you pay a leak test fee in advance of $100. We were getting low in November of 2025, so my husband stopped into the Tekonsha office to prepay for a minimum delivery. Because we had run out in the past, they demanded we pay for a leak test in advance even though we hadn't run out yet, but my husband didn't have enough money on him to cover that. We were put off by their lousy customer service and their attitude at the counter, so when we ran out two weeks later we got a 100 lb tank from a friend and took it to another propane company to fill it. We ended up getting a second 100 lb tank and each tank would cost just under $60 to fill and would last roughly 4 to 7 days since this winter has been so cold. Our hogtail (the short copper line with a reverse threaded brass fitting on each end that goes between the tank and the regulator) started leaking just before Thanksgiving, so I stopped at Parker propane in Dimondale the day before Thanksgiving and they sold me one for $l L in stock, so they even jumped through hoops and called around to their other locations to find one and had one of their drivers that was in that area pick it up and bring it back to Dimondale so I could pick it up later that same day and they saved our Thanksgiving.
