Gas costs more in Canada. Anyone who lives on the border knows this. However, when I looked it up…read morein gas buddy ot wasn't outrageously different - Sept 2022. This is a station right off the 403. Easy in and out. 20 pumps. Well spaced. 3 stars for this large chain. I default chains to 3 stars as they must be A-OK to expand as they have.

Normally you wouldn't think of Shell as being a place to think of many thoughts beyond "wow these…read moregas prices are no longer making baby Jesus cry" or "man I have to pee but don't want to become patient zero for a new infectious super disease rising from the rank depths of the uncleaned toilet". This Shell is an exception. The owner clearly has a steady rotation of Shark Tank, Tony Robbins motivational speeches, and customer service training videos on repeat on their YouTube playlist. The employees are so friendly you feel like you should hug them. The store is immaculate. The occasional perks and overall lack of up selling is icing on the cake. I don't feel obligated to defend my views on why I don't want to take advantage of their impulse buy chocolate bar sales, and their occasional "customer appreciation day" bonuses of a free coffee or bottle of water, banana, and brownie for the morning commute to work make this place seem like the gas station version of cheers. But instead of Cliff the friendly mailman, you have the guy at pump 2 smoking and texting while pumping and playing Russian roulette with your lives with his egregious violations of clearly posted pump sticker rules. Violating pump sticker warnings is punishable by stockade in many European countries. But before I get further off track, if you're a Hamilton road east bound or Highbury Ave northbound commuter and play chicken with your gas light on the regular, I highly recommend making this station a go to fill up and fresh breath Bat belt tool reloading station. You won't regret it.

That is to say if one wanted to spend their entire life only in this neighbourhood they just might be able to pull it off. For the most part. Tuckey's is clearly an essential part of that. When so many other smaller hardware stores have closed this one just recently expanded. I don't visit too often but Saturday mornings often find me in Old South and at least a few times a year I make it into Tuckey's - including this past weekend. I cannot remember a time when they ever didn't have what I was looking for. That being said, I suspect their prices are slightly higher than the big box stores and the selection is clearly smaller. They have one or two options for each item - not twenty or thirty. I honestly don't mind spending an extra buck or two and most the items I'm looking for are relatively small items. Of course, in any Home Hardware carries it they will apparently have it shipped their for you. All that being said, the staff here are super friendly and it has a real friendly vibe. Staff are talking to each other, chatting with customers who are chatting with each other. It's great. They have a garden centre when the season is right and lots of stuff out on the sidewalk to catch the interest of the many people walking by. In closing, they're ideally located with in the heart of Old South and I hope they always be. I'll make a point to continue shopping there whenever I am in the area to ensure that happens.

PART 1 I, too, wish I could leave a zero rating. Their…read morecustomer service is the worst. The attitude you when you call in to request a fill and if you've ever run out of propane, they require you pay a leak test fee in advance of $100. We were getting low in November of 2025, so my husband stopped into the Tekonsha office to prepay for a minimum delivery. Because we had run out in the past, they demanded we pay for a leak test in advance even though we hadn't run out yet, but my husband didn't have enough money on him to cover that. We were put off by their lousy customer service and their attitude at the counter, so when we ran out two weeks later we got a 100 lb tank from a friend and took it to another propane company to fill it. We ended up getting a second 100 lb tank and each tank would cost just under $60 to fill and would last roughly 4 to 7 days since this winter has been so cold. Our hogtail (the short copper line with a reverse threaded brass fitting on each end that goes between the tank and the regulator) started leaking just before Thanksgiving, so I stopped at Parker propane in Dimondale the day before Thanksgiving and they sold me one for $l L in stock, so they even jumped through hoops and called around to their other locations to find one and had one of their drivers that was in that area pick it up and bring it back to Dimondale so I could pick it up later that same day and they saved our Thanksgiving. Blue Flame sure could take a lesson from them in customer service. SEE PART 2
