A new issue arose (regarding wound care) & his doctor sent a referral for in home nursing again. We waited for a call, with no response, so the doctor sent in another referral. Still no response from them to schedule. My father called CarePartners directly, with referral services noting that they no longer have the staff to work in Fairview, NC. That is fine, staffing is an issue. However, how can a medical provider (of essential home based services to an elderly individual), not call (after 2 MD referrals), to say "I am sorry, we don't have the staff to provide in home nursing support in your area currently"? If you can get care from CarePartners that's great. But, they don't seem to do any follow up outreach (while needy patients are waiting) to tell you they don't have the staff.

Care Partners supplies medical equipment to Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. I received a large bill for two prosthetic devices that I thought would be covered under my insurance as I broke my ankle and had been out of network. I had to call several times to get them to bill my insurance, and when I called, they noted that they hadn't received that information. After several tries, they did forward to my insurance, who unfortunately did not cover the items, despite the fact that I had received them in an emergency situation. I questioned the bill because I couldn't believe I was charged $145 for a $14.50 device, and they showed absolutely no compassion, instead charged me the full price and wouldn't budge. They kept focusing on the financial agreement that I had signed in my doctor's office when I was in pain from a broken ankle. I explained my frustration about the medical industry and the lack of access to affordable health care and asked for a discount, since I would be paying cash and I was currently not working. They threatened to hang up on me and so I finally caved in and paid the bill in full, again being taken advantage of by a health care system that has no interest in providing affordable services to those out of work. I feel terrible that I was forced to pay this bill, because otherwise, they would have sent it to a collection agency.

As they wheeled me through the door, in a wheelchair, I noticed that the facility was almost brand new.... I think. Everything was clean and shining. All the staff had wonderful smiles on their faces and I knew this was my happy home for the next 3 weeks. The food was excellent especially if you're a fan of southern cooking; however, if you're a northerner like me, they will accommodate you for each meal. But the southern flare was so good, I went in a northerner and left 3 weeks later a southerner. Anyway, I had physical therapy 5 hours a week (M-F) and occupational therapy 5 hours a week (M-F). My PT and my OT people were fantastic. They worked with me to give me the maximum benefit in my rehabilitation. I felt myself getting stronger everyday. The nursing staff worked very hard to bring me the maximum comfort, provide my meds in a timely fashion, and yet those hard working nurses always had a smile for me all the time. My doctors recommendation of this facility was, without a doubt, the right place for me. I came in a wheelchair and 3 weeks later I danced out the door.

After recently moving from San Diego to Asheville I found my dog struggling and found it was a collapsed trachea and to take him home for palliative care. I found out on a Thursday and was told to take him home and provide steroids and painkillers. I was in shock, and didn't know what to do. His quality of life was my main concern. Both my daughter and I arrived individually at the same site based on reviews and meeting our need to let Sluggo go in a loving comfortable way for him. That Sunday morning, Dr cat came over, and told us exactly what would happen. She gave him treats to help him feel good, and then a shot that takes 15 minutes to really relax and help my baby sleep, but still could hear me. I was able to look into his soulful eyes before he went to sleep and honor him for all that he gave me, comforted me and his amazing friendship and thanked him for his abundance of love. She placed an IV after he was sleeping and snoring in true pug fashion. I spoke to him and told him it was ok to leave, thanked him from the bottom of my heart and said goodbye. I nodded to Dr. Cat to administer the final shot and shortly after, my baby was gone. He left peacefully under a big beautiful maple tree on a lovely October day with the birds chirping. I will never forget the care Dr. Cat gave my best friend. She was soft spoken, caring and compassionate. She put his paw into a clay form for me, and I will always have him and his ashes with me. Highly recommend this for any pet owner. So peaceful for our loving friends and companions, and made a hard day a blessing of peace and thankfulness. Forever in my heart my Bubbadoo Thank you Dr. Cat for your calm and peaceful presence you brought, your gentle heart for letting us take our time, and your compassion for my baby and for us. I really appreciate all that you do and the care that you gave us.
