Pretty cool people. I learned a lot in my first Krav Maga class. It was a good class size & good leaders, a nice variety of skill levels.

Okinawa Karate and Cultural Center

With so many martial arts schools available in the Northern Virginia area that cover a wide…read morespectrum of styles and disciplines, Master Folta's Traditional Uechi-Ryu Karate stands out among them. Seriously, this is the real deal - this school is probably the closest opportunity outside Okinawa you'll get to learning authentic traditional karate from a master practitioner as it was originally conceived by Kanbun Uechi back at the beginning of the 20th century. This style of karate is practical for both self defense and physical fitness, and promotes self-discipline and a healthy life style. Progressing through the various ranks is well structured and meaningful, and you absolutely get a sense of accomplishment as you do so. The staff at Okinawa Karate and Cultural Center make learning karate easy and fun, for all ages and abilities, with hands on classes at the Okinawa Karate and Cultural Center and at various Parktakes rec centers throughout Fairfax County. My whole family signed up for karate classes during the pandemic on a whim, but it only took just a few short classes to realize what a gem of an opportunity we have right here in northern Virginia. I cannot recommend it highly enough! Give it a try and join a great karate community!

I'm very pleased to see that he finally was able to open his own independent dojo to celebrate traditional Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate, as well as the rich cultures that Okinawa brings. The Cultural Center has many artifacts in a museum style in a side room. There's also many people from the community like the DC Okinawan Kai who utilizes the space. It is a safe and welcoming space for not just Okinawan people, but those interested in learning more about the culture and tradition. This spacious dojo has two kicking/punching bags ready for training, many talented instructors, and classes for children and adult alike! I am excited for what's to come for this OKCC! I hope new students can find their new karate home like it's been for me throughout the years!

Thought an incident occurred at NZone in Chantilly, VA, around 6:30 PM in the basketball area and…read moreto request immediate follow-up.My 14-year-old son, along with several of his friends (all middle and high school students), were playing basketball when an adult male, estimated to be in his late 30s or early 40s, became extremely aggressive. The man was present with his young son. When a basketball contacted the hoop while he was speaking to his child, he reacted with disproportionate anger. This is not the first time an incident like this has occurred where my children do not feel safe at this location. The adult took his friend, Josh's basketball worth over $100, forcefully kicked it into the ceiling, and deliberately popped it. He then verbally threatened the children and directed extremely offensive language at one of the smaller boys, saying, "What are you going to do about it, you little b***?"*While I want to be precise in my wording, the man did not strike the children. However, he invaded their personal space, pressed himself into a child's face, and used a physically intimidating posture that caused the children to fear for their safety. This conduct constitutes assault, as it placed minors in reasonable fear of imminent harm. Had physical contact occurred, it would have escalated to battery. The children were terrified. They did not know whether this adult was armed or capable of further violence. Even his own child appeared frightened. The boys appropriately reported the incident to the front desk staff. Unfortunately, the response was inadequate. The staff member appeared intimidated, spoke briefly with the adult, and then allowed him to leave without consequence, documentation, or visible follow-up. No staff member checked on the children afterward, and no reassurance or safety protocol was communicated. This is deeply concerning, particularly for a church-based facility where families expect a safe, values-driven environment and clear procedures to protect minors. We do not pay for our children to attend NZone so they can be threatened, have their property destroyed, and be left feeling unsafe while no meaningful action is taken.Until I receive reassurance that appropriate safeguards are in place, I am seriously reconsidering continued participation at NZone. This behavior was not only dangerous and inappropriate, but also profoundly unchristlike, contradicting the mission and values NZone represents.

She also liked the kiddie roller coaster and was able to figure out how to reset it and climb up to ride it herself!! Parking the first time was a bit confusing because Googlemaps takes you to the smaller lot which I believe is for the church but there is a bigger parking lot in the back of the building with the main entrance to the sports facilities. We're sad that the last Thursday family field time is coming up on the 22nd but we'll try to keep an eye on when they'll be happening again. Friendly staff and kid friendly facilities!
