Could you tell us more about the structure of the kickboxing class? Are we actually learning techniques and punching bags or just doing burpees for an hour (like some other places)?

The best way you can find out about the class is you can coming and ask the instructor about that class I traying to sing out l see alot off people camping on deferment time.

The minute I I had my my flights booked for back home I called and reinstated my membership. You won't find a community like this anywhere else - and the trainers are phenomenal. I was able to maintain my weight loss outside of the gym because what you learn during the challenge & in the classes all has to do with consistency and effort. Show up and you're halfway there! Everything is customizable - I am horrible at following directions & paying attention - & yet I still get a great workout each time I'm there because I can amend whatever is being instructed to fit my capabilities. The coaches will help you & so will others around you! I've loved bringing friends here & making new friends on the mat. I've taken personal training sessions from both Morgan & Matt and honestly they're the best. I am super psyched to start them again this year now that I'm back. Sign up for a Kickstart class & I promise you won't regret it :)

I started my fitness journey about four years ago, and I have been kickboxing for almost 3 years. I can definitely say kickboxing changed my life. It is one of the only workouts I have sustained; it keeps me interested enough that I keep on coming back for more. Rockbox fitness is a kickboxing based fitness gym. It incorporates elements of kickboxing into their almost hour-long routines along with functional circuit training for the second half. I love this format because this is the only way I feel that I incorporate any sort of resistance and weight training into my workout routine. It's the best of both worlds. Head instructor Kevin here at the Gainesville location is amazing! His technique is amazing, but his kindness and approachability stand out. Everyone, no matter what your skill level, is welcome at Rockbox, Gainesville. Instructor Emmanuel's stretching techniques are well appreciated and instructor JJ's energy, technique and enthusiasm is beyond comparison. Latest instructor Aiden is amazing. His skill and love for the sport is evident. But his enthusiasm gives us all the motivation we need and makes me look forward to his classes! Rockbox Gainesville makes you feel like family. You should definitely join.

My son had never participated in anything like this before but as soon as he had his first class he really loved it and kept asking to continue . I like how the coaches don't treat the kids like babies and add a sense of discipline. Jake is one of the coaches there and it's really awesome to see him calling the kids by their names and supporting them throughout the class.

I'm not a great fighter at all but muay thai is something I truly love. I look forward to it at the end of the day and see it as something that gives and rejuvenates me rather than taking away from me. Anyways, I came to TAG MT during a business trip and had known about this school already from watching TAG MT youtube instructional vids. I came early and got to see the kids class. It's a great balance of technical drills but also having lots of fun as the reward. The coaches are great and the kids look up to them, fully engaged and are adorable in their big Muay Thai shorts :P Head Instructor Kru Chris Aboy has an amazing personality and teaching style. His encyclopedic knowledge and teaching methodology is phenomenal. He can read each student individually while also making adjustments to the class as a whole depending on where everyone is at with the previous drill. You don't feel left behind at all. Coach James is amazing as well leading the partner drills and demos (for both Kids + Adults). In general, Phase 1 covers fundamental techniques including movement, defense, attacks, and counters through progressive partner drills. Coaches will demo technique, then go around reading students and providing helpful corrections and explaining the reasons why. Calistechnics and shadowboxing in-between rounds really push the conditioning. Controlled sparring drills towards the end adds just enough unpredictability yet retaining safety and technique. Phase 2 builds upon Phase 1 and adds in more advanced drills, focusing on more advanced strategies and technical sparring. For seasoned nak muay, TAG offers an in-depth knowledge and well rounded in all aspects. I really love their elbow/knee/clinch game. Nothing is watered down at all. I learned a LOT of new details to improve my technique is just one session. Most importantly, I felt taken care of and safe the entire time. If you live in the DC Metro Area and are interested in learning Muay Thai, whether it's for self-defense or competition, I strongly suggest checking out TAG Muay Thai. You will learn authentic, pure hard-hitting Muay Thai at TAG, along with the humility and respect of Traditional Muay Thai.

My kids are in the youngest age group (under 7). They used to be taught by adult Sempais, and I could see them gaining skills, self control, respect, etc. But this location recently changed to allowing older kids to serve as Sempais and run the class. These kids don't have any experience with teaching children - they're still children themselves. The focus of classes has shifted from learning skills to just "conditioning" - running, sit-ups, push-ups, etc. And these child instructors just don't have the self-control to serve as instructors. At the end of most classes, the Sensei/Sempai ends with a fun game to conclude on a fun note. But recently, the child Sempai leading a dodgeball-type game got carried away and way too competitive and was throwing the ball full force into little kids' faces. I saw a 4 yr old get slammed in the face (by the Sempai) so hard she fell down. And the Sempai appeared to like it and continued to throw full full force at other 4, 5, and 6 year olds. That was the breaking point for me. The other Kaizen locations are good, and we'll stick to those ones.

Najim, the coach is great. He is very technical in his instructions but still very understanding that it takes time to learn the techniques. Plus he has a strong competitive record: Multiple Sabaki (full contact Enshin Competition) wins and multiple Muay Thai Titles. It should be noted that some of the techniques are modified compared to pure Muay Thai to more of a Dutch style of Muay Thai. The classes run one hour, with about 10 minutes of warm up and stretching, about 40 minutes of technique training, and then about 10 minutes of calisthenics at the end. The varieties of techniques vary class to class ranging from the very basics to sparring for the more experience students. Also available are: Children and Adult Karate - I don't know a ton about these but have seen Najim coaching the children's classes and the kids seem to be learning alot of good techniques and still having a ton of fun. Also Enshin Karate, being a combination of kickboxing and Judo, does teach many techniques that are very real world usable should the students need them in an actual self defense situation. Gracie Jiu Jitsu - These classes are taught by Toney Waldecker, a blackbelt under Relson Gracie, son of Helio Gracie - the inventor of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. I don't know a lot about these classes either but Toney seems to be a very good trainer and Relson visits the dojo a few times a year it seems.
