CJR is just the best. We're proud to be longtime members of the CJR family. I can't recommend Mr. Chris enough.

What a wonderful place we discovered here in Virginia!…read more After making a cross-country move, one of our biggest priorities was finding a safe, welcoming place for our daughter to spend her afternoons after school. What we found was so much more than that. Here, they don't just build children's physical strength. They build their confidence, friendships, and sense of belonging. And after a move like ours, especially at this age, that means everything. Transitions aren't always easy. They take courage, connection, and community. We needed exactly that, and we found it here. What makes this place even more special is that the support extends beyond the children to the parents, too. From the thoughtful text messages letting us know our daughter arrived safely, to the convenience of school pickup, to every warm greeting, genuine conversation, and friendly "see you later", it's the little things that make such a big difference. They've helped make a major life transition feel a little less overwhelming and a whole lot more welcoming. Hands down, one of the best decisions we've made since moving to Virginia. We're so grateful to have found this community!

Excellent after school program!!! My son went 3 days a week after AM Kindergarten - WMA picked him…read moreup, he brought his lunch, learned, had structured play and had a karate lesson. My son became a striped blue belt in the course of the school year and really loves karate! For us, it was a win-win...he could attend an after-school program with other AM K kids, we didn't have to sign up for all 5 days, he learned karate (built in sports activity = less running around for mom), he experienced a "long" day to help prepare for 1st grade, learned how to become independent, responsible and adaptable with this great program. My son could stay as late as 6pm but we chose to pick him up at 4pm. They have a curbside pickup so you don't have to get out of your car if you don't want to! On Tuesdays, Mrs. Z (a teacher) came in for some supplemental learning - my son loved her and the little treats she gave for working hard / good behavior. Once a month, the AM K kids would go on a field trip (library, firehouse, etc). The facility is huge and very clean - I took a tour prior to signing him up and even checked out the bathrooms. Whenever we went in for belt tests the place was equally clean. All of the instructors were extremely professional and great with the kids. They all knew my son; he truly loved and respected each of them. There are a lot of instructors in the building at one time (so no one is alone with the kids), I was assured they all were background checked and there are cameras throughout the building (you can watch from the main office). The owner, Shihan, is wonderful with the kids - super silly with them and truly loves what he does. My son really loved him. WMA is extremely organized and professional!! They offer karate classes, AM Kindergarten and regular after school programs. We will go back in the Fall for karate classes and when my daughter enters K, she will go there if we still require after school care. :) *Side Note: I work with children so safety / policies and procedures are extremely important to me and I felt confident sending my child to WMA.

If this child was my own, I would seek to remove the double nose pierced woman who was in a caregiver position. Martial Artists understand everything is energy. If you don't have patience to work with children, then it's in the community's best interest if you find a different profession. I don't know a single healthy parent who supports teachers yelling at their child. Having a firm tone is one thing, but an emotionally charged scream is more than just disrespectful. My daughters taekwondo master is in the business of building confidence... not destroying a kids self esteem.
