We tried Karate with our son when he was four and he wanted no part of it. It was too loud, too big and too overwhelming for his personality style Yet our older son had tremendous success and learned so many life skills from a Taekwondo afterschool program elsewhere. Clearly we just were not in the right spot. InCourage is that spot. The instructors are so friendly and demonstrate respect in every encounter , and the numerous smaller rooms and classes are just right for our son. I can't speak much about the after school care. Kids learning discipline and respecting others through Taekwondo is great. I like their programs and different events throughout the year. WE LOVE THIS PLACE! The owners and masters here are fabulous! They are just perfect with kids of all ages, and often teach family Tae Kwon Do. It is a small-ish studio, but they make the best of the space. My kids do their after-school program and are now in their Summer Camp. We cannot be more pleased with their care of our children and the teaching them of the full meaning of Tae Kwon Do - with discipline, respect and health/fitness. Instruction is caring and age-appropriate. They teach from age 4 to age 100!! Instructors are young and can do this stuff all day long...seemingly endless energy. Great, clear communication and respectable prices. This is a fantastic center and if they keep this level of service and instruction, we will be clients/students for a very long time! I think most reviews sum up my feelings about TopKick!! Awesome place for all ages. My son joined last summer and he enjoys it. I actually enjoy watching the kids and adults every week doing their martial arts. The instructors and front desk are extremely polite and helpful to all. Very quickly they learn everyone's name and make them feel a part of the TopKick family. The pace in which students receive their belts is right on schedule as well. They encourage everyone to practice and to even come to booster classes for additional help. It has taught my son to practice, to be responsible for himself, family and community as well as encouragement to move to the next level. He loves that he is always learning something new and loves the positive feedback he gets from the instructors. They even have a great summer camp and after school program. I was immediately struck by how much better TopKick was run, how much better the training was, and professional the team. We have been Top Kick Broadlands members since August 2012. Both of my children and I enjoy the classes immensely. The program is well organized and classes very well executed. Instructors Evan and Kevin are very enthusiastic and energetic. They explain every move, form and exercise in detail. They are very patient and encouraging, especially with the children. Evan and Kevin are amazing! Workouts are intense but everybody can adjust the level of the work out to their ability. Additionally, what I like about the program is that Top Kick goes beyond just teaching martial arts. The staff is very much involved in community and they often participate in community-oriented charities such as Hunger Drives, Toys for Tots etc. Each semester they also feature one virtue from their Virtues Project. The participation in the projects entails completing a journal in which a participant writes what a given virtue means to her or him. This semester the virtue is Perseverance. The participant is encouraged to list in the journal tasks / deeds done in support of the virtue. Those who participate in the Virtue Project are rewarded with a Top Kick Virtue T-Shirt. The project is an awesome way to instill good values in children and teens as well as adults, build their confidence, strengthen their relationship with others and become a better person and a member of community. I highly recommend Top Kick Broadlands if you are looking for a well-organized and structured program to learn Tae Kwon Do for yourself or your youngsters.
