My son had never participated in anything like this before but as soon as he had his first class he really loved it and kept asking to continue . I like how the coaches don't treat the kids like babies and add a sense of discipline. Jake is one of the coaches there and it's really awesome to see him calling the kids by their names and supporting them throughout the class.

First off, I am obsessed with Muay Thai. Been training since 2014 and competing since 2017, with 3…read moremonths training in Thailand. I'm not a great fighter at all but muay thai is something I truly love. I look forward to it at the end of the day and see it as something that gives and rejuvenates me rather than taking away from me. Anyways, I came to TAG MT during a business trip and had known about this school already from watching TAG MT youtube instructional vids. I came early and got to see the kids class. It's a great balance of technical drills but also having lots of fun as the reward. The coaches are great and the kids look up to them, fully engaged and are adorable in their big Muay Thai shorts :P Head Instructor Kru Chris Aboy has an amazing personality and teaching style. His encyclopedic knowledge and teaching methodology is phenomenal. He can read each student individually while also making adjustments to the class as a whole depending on where everyone is at with the previous drill. You don't feel left behind at all. Coach James is amazing as well leading the partner drills and demos (for both Kids + Adults). In general, Phase 1 covers fundamental techniques including movement, defense, attacks, and counters through progressive partner drills. Coaches will demo technique, then go around reading students and providing helpful corrections and explaining the reasons why. Calistechnics and shadowboxing in-between rounds really push the conditioning. Controlled sparring drills towards the end adds just enough unpredictability yet retaining safety and technique. Phase 2 builds upon Phase 1 and adds in more advanced drills, focusing on more advanced strategies and technical sparring. For seasoned nak muay, TAG offers an in-depth knowledge and well rounded in all aspects. I really love their elbow/knee/clinch game. Nothing is watered down at all. I learned a LOT of new details to improve my technique is just one session. Most importantly, I felt taken care of and safe the entire time. If you live in the DC Metro Area and are interested in learning Muay Thai, whether it's for self-defense or competition, I strongly suggest checking out TAG Muay Thai. You will learn authentic, pure hard-hitting Muay Thai at TAG, along with the humility and respect of Traditional Muay Thai.

It had been years since I started any kind of physical activity and to be honest it terrified me to start again. I decided to bite the bullet and start training again. You can train at your own pace and everyone wants to see you succeed The trainers are very hands on and make sure that everyone understands the techniques being taught. They make training fun and are incredibly knowledgeable in their craft. The hour flies by. The facility is also great. A huge facility with plenty of mat space and they keep it clean. I have trained before in different facilities and this location is one of the best. Last but not least, the schedule of classes is great. I work very long hours and having classes in the evening makes it where I could train every day. The schedule is very accommodating. I would recommend this place for anyone whether your a beginner or an expert.

I had the pleasure of meeting the awesome staff at Kaizen MMA/Enshin Karate a few weeks ago when I…read morepicked up my nieces from their Day Camp Program. My sister had searched high and low for a reputable place to put the kiddies in and happened upon the Karate Day Camp. With all the foolishness in the world, this Auntie is happy to know that her nieces are protected and cared for by "Handsome" MMA trained professionals that could snap an assailants wind pipe with one quick karate chop. (Yep that's how I feel .. smile) The girls get the required exercise time and calorie burn that most American children refuse to get with that unhealthy connection to tablets and video games that prevent them from riding bikes and visiting playgrounds. I watched through a glass window as children completed sessions of bear crawls, mountain climbers, side rolls and various other exercises that would make the average child cry (small laugh). They listened to their Sensei and showed him respect during his instructions... another attribute lacking in our youth today. My nieces seemed happy as they engaged with other staff and older school aged teenagers hired during the summer for additional help. This establishment reinforces discipline and the instructors convey any and all concerns to the twin about the girls. A perfect co-parenting relationship. The nieces informed me that they also attend fun-filled field trips and also have many trips to the pool. The Dojo Mommy helps the little ones change so no parent need fret about the thought of their little girls interacting with male staff in the bathrooms. Also of note, the facility is super clean, offers an activity area upstairs and rents their space for Birthday parties. My sister invited me to her Boot Camp session and after one hour of circuit training I was sweating up a storm. Instructor Mike had these legs, arms and thighs on fire. I was glad to know that while the girls received their workouts, classes here, were created to keep parents and aunties Just as Fit. We know that all great things must come to an end and I hate that my sister will have to leave this amazing place when she moves with her military husband next year. Next year my nieces will be more fit, more confident and prepared for self defense. You can tell the instructors love what they do, love the children and know that the children love them. On my last day of vacation we picked up the girls and I watched some MMA students completing warm ups with their instructor and created some new fitness goals for myself. Kaizen MMA has what you're looking for and more, highly recommended! Da Islandgal29412

I used to love this location (Fairfax) of Kaize . However, recent changes have made me decide to…read morepull my kids out and go to a different location. My kids are in the youngest age group (under 7). They used to be taught by adult Sempais, and I could see them gaining skills, self control, respect, etc. But this location recently changed to allowing older kids to serve as Sempais and run the class. These kids don't have any experience with teaching children - they're still children themselves. The focus of classes has shifted from learning skills to just "conditioning" - running, sit-ups, push-ups, etc. And these child instructors just don't have the self-control to serve as instructors. At the end of most classes, the Sensei/Sempai ends with a fun game to conclude on a fun note. But recently, the child Sempai leading a dodgeball-type game got carried away and way too competitive and was throwing the ball full force into little kids' faces. I saw a 4 yr old get slammed in the face (by the Sempai) so hard she fell down. And the Sempai appeared to like it and continued to throw full full force at other 4, 5, and 6 year olds. That was the breaking point for me. The other Kaizen locations are good, and we'll stick to those ones.

This is the only gym in the neighborhood that makes you QUARANTINE for 14 days just to start your trial class. You are not allowed to drop in, have to make 48 hour prior appointment for a class because of covid. It's 2022. Even our government doesn't have restrictions anymore. Why are they being paranoid? Their website said I can provide a negative result to take the class faster so I told them I'm willing to provide negative test result. Then the management literally replied with a threat saying "we will ban you if you show up before 14 days." Then they sent me another email saying they won't accept me as a member and etc while I was writing this review. How do you expect to teach people martial arts when you are this paranoid, rude, and irrational? I've been to few local gyms here but this is by far the worst experience just by contacting them. Where Valhalla lacks in a "No Shoes, No Service" policy, it excels in providing a venue for fresh and seasoned martial arts practitioners of all ages to hone their craft in a plethora of styles, including but not limited to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai. You'll be hard pressed to find another gym with such a wealth of engaging opportunities under the same roof. What really sets it apart isn't just the exceptional coaching from its founder and resident Black Belt Professor, Coach Andrew; it's the emphasis placed on personal development from all angles. The atmosphere that's been cultivated at Valhalla ensures a healthy and positive environment where everyone involved is engaged and committed to helping each other progress both physically and mentally. Not only that, but the condition of the facility is par-none and always kept clean. As a slight testament to the caliber of Valhalla's curriculum, I've personally garnered a greater sense of confidence, learned countless practical skills, and gained a greater appreciation for cold showers. Although I've only been a student for a relatively short amount of time, I'm certain I'll be here for the long run.

I looked all over, and I saw the name Valhalla and was immediately attracted to the place based off that. Professor/Instructor Andrew talked with me on the phone, and I tried out for Filipino Martial Arts and Savate / Jeet Kune Do / Muay Thai. Though I was not attracted to Filipino Martial Arts, I wanted to know more about Savate as I could not recall this form of martial arts. Professor / Instructor Andrew is not only an indescribable instructor / educator / teacher / professor, but his historical background on Savate is so profound. Even after training he ceases to not amaze me with his arsenal of knowledge of how Savate originated from as I had no clue, but only knowing about Jeet Kune Do & Muay Thai from training in the military. I have now been training with him about to go on 2 years as my love for the martial arts known as Savate has grown tremendously. I do recommend anyone to train here as well as knowing he also has his older brother, Mr. Jason training students as well. Their combined knowledge of martial arts makes them an undefeatable duo that loves to teach and educate, and I just really could say more about them, but will leave it here by saying, come and see it for yourself, as you will not be disappointed.
