When I arrived yesterday, the White Horse announced that it was now a membership based non-profit business that will allow it to continue on indefinitely in service to performers and the community. One doesn't have to be a member but membership bring additional benefits depending on the level of participation. The performance was well attended, the music and acoustics outstanding, and the bar service appreciated. Just visit their website for info on upcoming shows and a breakdown of the new membership levels. This venue is definitely appreciated and supported by the community. It is worth a visit, contribution, and/or membership.

But the facility itself came across as hard and sterile. And all hard surfaces don't blend well with loud music. The service was adequate. We only stayed for one round of drinks. What a terrific addition to the roster of Must-Do Activities in Asheville. This isn't just for…read moretourists, either! We are locals, and this experience made us feel the magic of being tourists in our own town. Looking down several stories and gazing out several miles, both, gave us such unique perspectives of the City. And yes, you can go to these rooftop bars on your own, but the Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours provides endless historical and architectural anecdotes of the area. Sam even shared numerous photos dating back to the 1800's, giving unique snapshots to the past while you gaze upon the present. You also gain access to the reserved premier seating on the decks, dedicated wait staff, and oftentimes off-menu craft cocktails and mocktails. Dress appropriately, as the musicians felt it as well. There were a few small technical glitches but nothing that marred the show - the lights went out but it was right at the end of a song so it was pretty cool timing for an accident! They popped right back on. If you're thinking about walking from downtown Asheville...maybe don't. It's downhill as you walk towards the river and uphill as you walk away so it's not a casual stroll in either direction. There are also two small sections with very limited street lighting.
