I drive by here whenever I visit Maple Springs and had been wanting to try it. Finally decided to stop by and grab some food. My brother ordered the double cheeseburger with onion rings and I got the tuna melt with french fries. It was very yummy and my brother mentioned the meat was quality meat. My tuna melt had a lot of tuna and tasted delicious. The highlight of our visit was Gabe !!! He was super friendly, sweet, welcoming, and extremely funny. We will definitely be back to visit Gabe ! He is the best !! The outdoor seating is wonderful with a great view and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a try ! read more

I came here years ago as a kid and remembered having a great time so I was so happy when my mother suggested it when I asked her where she wanted to eat for her birthday meal. Yes, the location is in the middle of nowhere, but it's so quaint that it's really worth the windy road out there. The restaurant is so quaint and really just makes you feel like you're in the middle of some small town in middle America instead of Southern California. This feeling is extended when you interact with the lovely staff. They instantly make you feel like a local who's been coming there for years. Food here is your standard diner food. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's tasty and the portion sizes are big. You're going to walk away full. I promise. Needless to say, I'm glad that after probably a few decades my fond memories of Silverado Cafe still ring true. read more

I stopped to eat at the Siverado Café on 28272 in Siverado, CA I last time I ate there was 32 years ago when I was a bicyclist. The place was nice and clean. The sever was nice and friendly. Isidoro the manager allowed me to take photos. So today I brought my wife to this historic place. I had a chile relleno and a chicken enchilada with beans and rice. A good combination of flavors. I drank a Diet Coke to balance the meal. Diana also ordered a chile relleno with a beef enchilada with beans and rice. A very good chile relleno, The rest of the meal was very tasty. She also drank a Diet Coke with her meal. For dessert; I had a Apple Pie a la mode; It was applicious. Diana had a Chocolate Brownie, Tasty and delicious. This is my second visit to the Silverado café. The first visit was decent at best, today's visit was an all-around mess of both service and food. The four-star rating this place gets is mind boggling. It was somewhat full today, but there were still open tables entire time we were there. It has a homey local feel. it seems to be a popular stop along the road with bikers, as I've seen bikes and bikers at this place both times being there, and there's not much else around. The service today, or lack there of wasn't just our table taking notice. Multiple tables would have to hunt the waitress down, for coffee refills, silverware that wasn't put out, or for simple food requests. Anytime your customers have to start leaving their seats to find you in one room restaurant that is not a good thing.cmy wife has gluten allergies, and simply asked for there to be no toast on her food. Her food arrives covered and toast. So they take her food back, and it does return minus the toast, but now it's missing the potatoes that it had the first time. Then trying to track the waitress down to get those potatoes back was a new challenge. My Denver omelette came out greasy and just overall looking unappetizing. My toast came out unbuttered and bacon crispy as all heck when I asked for it not to be. The cheese in my omelette was kind of melted but just globs of cheese. The him inside was burnt and onions were soaked with grease and huge chunks of bell peppers. I could not of been more disappointed with my meal or the service and will not be back to this location. read more

We have gone here a lot. Tonight was horrible! Steak came out grey and uncooked twice. Third time finally cooked right, but 1/3 of steak missing. Server came by and said what happened to the rest? Chef was in the back accusing us of trying to get a free meal. Manager no help. Also charged $4 for a gun soda water.... do not ever go late nigh. Daytime awesome, late night horrendous! read more

Must have been an off day. Wait staff ignored us for a good 10 minutes. Customers were waiting for checks while the staff chatted with bar patrons. Once we were seated, saw that there had been on open table the whole time. Not friendly. Poor service. Overcooked burger. Oh well. Maybe another time. Don't you love the discovery of mom and pop local eateries on road trips? Isn't it fun to find places that appear to be frozen in time, allowing you to visit a place from days gone by? Silverado Cafe has just that feeling and it's in our own backyard. No road trip required! It's not cute and it's not quaint but it's full of character. That works for me. Why not make visiting this cafe part of a local adventure? Take advantage of the many hikes offered in the area and then pop in for a meal or a drink. More about that idea later.... What about the food? After all, that's why we go to a cafe, right? I stopped in for breakfast, following a hike with IRC. It was a simple but tasty meal of 2 perfectly prepared eggs, 2 flavorful sausage patties, chunky potatoes and an excellent biscuit. The biscuit was quite good and definitely one of the better restaurant biscuits I've found but I can't say it was amazing or the best. I would certainly get it again. I think I should give them a star just for generously serving REAL butter with the biscuit. So many places sneak in margarine, a transfat that promotes disease and destroys our health. My only criticism of my meal is that the home-style potatoes were boring, just large dry chunks that had no particular flavor and stuck in my throat. Ketchup solved that problem. And finally, the price? About $ 7. Seems reasonable to me with today's costs. The menu definitely offers a basic American fare with a Mexican emphasis. The breakfast section of the menu is fairly large (that made me happy) and it includes the usual Mexican-style breakfasts we SoCal people have come to expect. The lunch menu has the typical melts...patty, tuna, etc. along with other basic offerings one sees in a small diner. It surprised me to note that the entrees were all Mexican food. The place is small, probably doesn't have AC, based upon all of the ceiling fans I saw working, but it's in the canyon among many large, shady trees so I think it must stay pretty comfortable in there. There's a counter that seats 6 and about 10-11 booths and tables. Just the right size of a local, retro cafe. The service was good and the servers were very attentive, working hard to make sure things moved along. Now, back to the adventure. The Irvine Ranch conservancy offers several dozen hikes and activities in OC each week. There are family hikes, cardio hikes, mountain bike events, equestrian outings, interpretive hikes, fast..slow...intense...long...short...got the idea? All free, all docent lead events on our protected lands, land that you cannot access on your own. (Note: there are open access days offered each month during which time you can visit an area on your own). A number of hikes are in the Santiago canyon area. Why not take advantage of one of the activities and then follow it up with a meal or drink at Silverado cafe? Break out of the usual routine, get out and do something different. What a great experience coming to Silverado Cafe. You feel like your miles away from the world and that you have gone back in time. The Chips and Salsa were fresh and the chips are made to order. The burger was flavorful and perfectly done. The Cobb salad was just ok, but for the price it still gets a thumbs up. Bring your hiking shoes because once you finish eating you should hike up the Saddleback mountain!!! If you never have been to Silverado , bookmark it, the drive is beautiful and you will leave feeling good and relaxed. read more

I was so excited to try this place as it is in my neck of the woods, and it just looked and sounded like the perfect new breakfast spot, and I wanted to help support a local business. Sadly, it didn't go well...the food all had a wet sheen to it, too much grease, and it all looked dark, as if it had been cooked in burned pans. I was so disappointed. I did not eat my breakfast, and my guy ate some of his, but said it was just not tasty. I wish the food had been better, because the location is in a beautiful canyon, away from all the noise and craziness of everyday life, but the quality of good food was just not there. Came here after a ride at nearby Black Star, I always want to try Mom'n Pop places and off the wall, especially in this rural setting with a nice scenery around. This place looks like a moment in time, like history stopped 5-6 decades ago, it gives it character. The ordering process is the same as old times, with notes hanged on a rotating holder, that the cooks pick and start preparing your meal. Until you realize this is how they left it because they didn't update anything since forever. It takes very long to order, because they write everything on a piece of paper, manually, every single item, then they charge your card somewhere behind, that takes a while. Then they put your list on the rotating hanger and that's when the real wait begins! We were a group of 5 and some of us waited 45 minutes for their food! One of them saw his order list on the hanger being skipped for more than half an hour! I understand they might group orders or meals or prioritize others for efficiency, but skipping it forever doesn't make much sense. It was only he went to ask for his money back that they picked up the list and cooked his meal. I understand that it might be busy sometimes, but the attitude was more like - we don't really want you guys here, we are OK with just the locals kind of thing. Not apologetic or trying to be helpful, they were more like go away and don't come back! Which we won't. read more

My journey here started when my dad and I were driving down Santiago and made a right turn and found this place! We walked in and we're immediately welcomed with open arms! The team working here is more like family. If you travel down the road, there's a house with the tail of a light aircraft in the second story. Story has it a small plane actually crashed so it's real! I ordered a burger and at first I was skeptical but my eyes lit up at the first bite. This cafe has become the place I like to escape when life gets chaotic. I love taking my two best friends every Monday! This review is about Tacos. Specifically beef, crispy tacos. I've had other things. Also 5 and 4 stars. Good stuff All. Breakfast burrito, made to order chips, pile of bacon when the god kids wants bacon! Not is this about the made to order chili rellanos and enchilada or burgers or all the other great stuff. This is about the tacos. Three of the Silverado tacos with their house hot sauce (have to ask special) is amazing. As a connoisseur of hard tacos in the Southern California tradition, Silverado's are amazing. Not fancy, serves a local community in an amazing place, Silverado canyon. An old silver mining town diner/cafe off the beaten path that would have fit perfectly in a Clint Eastwood film from the late 60's. The cool thing about it is, it's 2018 and this place still has a 1971 vibe to it. I love it. I've never been here before but needing to kill some time so I stopped in for a quick beer this afternoon and to check this place out. It would appear this is a locals hang. Everyone inside right now knows each other. Except me, I'm a stranger. Definitely not gourmet food but it looks simple and decent. If I stay here a little longer and have another beer, I might order some tacos. They are advertising $1 Taco's today (Taco Tuesday). The prices are very reasonable here on their food and beer I might add. Cell phone reception (I have Verizon) is very bad here. Spotty if at all. Mostly, no cell service in this area but I got enough to at least post this Yelp review. I asked the server in the café, if they had Wi-Fi, and was told they didn't. Not sure I'll ever be in this area again but if so, I'm definitely coming back to this place just for the coolness factor. I love the environment and towns that look like this. read more

I decided to give this place a try after reading the Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. They were very busy when I arrived, but I was seated right away. The service was good and the staff was friendly. The food was also very good and the price was great. This is definely a "hidden gem" if you're looking for something simple with a small town feel. This is not a 5-star restaurant, but it doesn't pretend to be. If you want something away from it all, this is worth a try. It feels like going back in time 20 years when you walk in the door. Take a trip back in time to a cute little cafe that could easily have popped right out of a time travel machine directly from Mayberry. Make no mistake, it's not fancy, the booths are well worn, and the print on the Formica tables is worn off, this place is that old. The chips and salsa are amazing. Extra thick tortillas fried to order, and their salsa was fresh and delicious. I could easily eat a quart of this stuff. Their menu is a unique combination of standard diner fare (burgers, club sandwiches, Patty melts, etc), and authentic home cooked Mexican food. We decided to go both ways. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and gave it a bacon and Swiss upgrade. This sandwich was enormous. The extremely tender chicken breast overhang the bun by two inches all the way around. My husband was in agreement with me of how great this sandwich was. He went with the two crispy tacos combo. Serious clean plate material. Prices were very reasonable for the portion size. Best advice: Read the low star ratings and make a decision off that. I went against my norm of checking reviews before going to remote spots like this. But can say many times I've ended a hike and stop at spots like this and usually they are gems hidden away. Other low star reviews are dead spot on! Honestly was hyped about this spot and wanted to order French toast a cinnamon roll and a cowboy burger Togo. I ordered the cinnamon FT, syrup is a basic gummy thick consistency, type you get from the "table syrup" packets. FT was good don't get me wrong. Ordered Orange Juice. It was absolutely spoiled or expired. It stung my tongue as I tried to drink and extra sour. Took as many sips as I could and left it. Literally watched, attempted to flag down, make eye contact and not rudely scream out servers name for about 30-35mins. He refilled a table of bikers coffee 2 times. Sat 3 tables, cleaned the tables, took 3 tables orders, brought 3 tables their food, replenished a counter patrons beer, closed 4 checks, and never stopped to look at my table or take my burger order. Didn't check on any thing at my table. No ask for a box seeing I had French toast left over. Didn't tip can consider the 3 $ for that spoiled OJ to you serving folks as Tip. Was kinda sad leaving since I didn't get to try the burger or cinnamon roll and not feeling an ounce of welcome or love in this place. Yes I feel like I was treated differently by the staff that seemed to me to be catering to their locals and regulars like kings ( they can freely get up and get their own condiments behind the bar counter) and out of townies like a red headed step child. The Food IS NOT worth the drive. Buy some cinnamon bread and French toast that shit yourself. Service is non existent so I can't comment on that kitchen looks like a Ren and Stimpy scene. Maybe I'm offending the establishment which seems to have good roots, a father and son family business I respect that and all but Not the visit today. Silverado Cafe has become a regular stop for the girlfriend, J, and I. What started as a quaint place to get breakfast has turned into a weekly quest to Silverado to satisfy our hunger. Silverado Cafe isn't just for breakfast anymore but that's still the number one reason we go there. J has fallen in love with their French toast. I never thought that Silverado could top their own pancakes as the champion of the griddle but I their French toast is darn good. Imagine several triangles of bread full of eggy goodness covered in melted butter and maple syrup. Man oh man is it a treat. Like the pancakes you get a lot of bang for the buck. On a recent trip to Silverado Cafe I was more in the mood for a savory dish so I decided it was time to try their breakfast burrito. It's a decent breakfast burrito but my only complaint is that they serve their potatoes on the side instead of wrapped in the tortilla with the eggs, cheese and meat. Silverado won't put Nick's in Seal Beach out of business but their breakfast burrito is not a bad option. Judging by the crowds, Taco Tuesday is probably the most popular day at Silverado Cafe. You get to choose between hard or soft tacos as well as chicken, beef and pork. Are these the best tacos in Orange County? No, but they are good and if you add beans and rice to your taco platter you get a great meal for not a lot of dinero. I don't know if everyone reading this update or my original review will have the same love for Silverado Cafe that I do. I love the fact that when I eat there I feel like I am on the other side of the world from all of the hustle and bussle of Southern California. The service is always friendly but never pushy or rushed. I have sat in a booth long past finishing my meal solving a crossword puzzle and never received a dirty look or a comment from the staff. This place was recommended to me from someone on Facebook and I couldn't wait to go check it out. It's a bit of a trek from our place in Rancho, but thankfully we could take a nice cruise all the way through the canyon to get here. You feel like you're in a different land. Beautiful scenery all around. The place looks like it's been there forever, because it has. It's cozy inside, lots of little relics from its long life there. The menu has plenty of options, and I believe they serve breakfast until 2? I got a very nice egg plate with the most delicious biscuit I've ever had. My biggest complain is they bring me this perfect hot pillowing angel cloud of a biscuit... and my choice of jelly is smuckers garbage. This place should have some delicious special home made or locally made jelly. I would even pay extra to have the option. Other than that, everything was absolutely outstanding.
