Hole in the Wall Burger absolutely lives up to its name. Run by a mom, dad, and son, this place is pumping out pure local perfection. We got the Hole in the Wall Burger, Spicy chicken sandwich, and brick fries. They do their own custom blend in the burger so it's perfectly and deliciously fatty. The chicken sandwich was juicy and the cut was thick. The fries are cross cut tempura battered, and the brick style includes the mom's special sauce, grilled onions, and cheese. If you look at the menu from years past, you'll see that the price has only changed by $1 in the past 5 or 6 years. It's very impressive that they can keep the prices low so the average joe isn't priced out of a humble burger joint. Much respect to the family that owns this place. It always hits. What really takes it over the top though is their house sauce, often called the Hole in the Wall sauce. It is next level. Bold, savory, and way more interesting than your standard burger sauce. Do yourself a favor and order an extra side because dipping the fries in it is non negotiable. My mom went with the spicy chicken sandwich and it was great. The spice level is totally manageable, flavorful without being overpowering. If you like a little more heat, grabbing a side of peppers is the move. It adds that extra kick without drowning out the sandwich. On top of the food, this place really shines because of the people. It is family owned and you can feel it. Everyone is genuinely friendly and excited to serve you, which makes the experience even better. OH!!!! MY!!!! GAWD!!!!! Legit the best burger spot I've had hands down. I'm never going to the spot with the yellow arrow (iykyk). All their burgers are smash burgers, but it's not super thin so you can enjoy the juicy-ness. You can upgrade your fries to the brick fries which include waffle fries, cheese, and grilled onions with a side of their special sauce. And get this- the fries here are actually good! I love that they have non-beef burgers too for those with dietary restrictions! My boyfriend got a spicy chicken burger and it was SO juicy! I believe they use chicken thighs here (not breast) which makes all the difference. This is truly a hole in the wall, but I hope they continue getting the hype they deserve. Hole in the Wall Burger seriously surprised me in the best way. I ordered the California Burger and it was way tastier than I expected. Everything was wrapped neatly, and the ingredients were fresh (especially the avocado), filling, and well balanced. The fried egg was such a great touch and really took the whole burger to the next level. The only small piece of feedback I have is about the takeout packaging. The burger comes in a paper food tray inside a bag, so there is nothing covering the top. It smelled absolutely mouthwatering, but the burger is pretty large and I kind of wished it came in a take out container that closed so I could save it for later. Bottom line, this was a delicious, filling burger and I would absolutely come back for another. A sturdier takeout setup would make it even more of a win. read more

Saw this place about a year ago when looking for burgers in the area and forgot about it. It was time to try a new burger joint and saw it again. I am glad we came I got the hole in the wall burger and it was really good! Good crisp lettuce, crunchy onion and really good flavor. They got a real good sauce. Waffle fries made perfectly, crispy crunch no floppy soggy nasty. Nicely done! A few tables interior to sit and nice and open. Looked clean inside as well. Gentleman at the counter great presence and friendly. Definitely do recommend coming here and giving them a try. I'm going to try another burger next time! read more

Talk about a turn of events! We initially wanted chicken and drove to KFC, but were really turned off by the appearance of the place and the food. We looked on Yelp for Mediterranean instead, but weren't feeling it. Scrolling through choices on yelp and on a mission to satisfy my craving, I suddenly had a craving for a burger. My palate insisted on Hole in the Wall Burgers and I am so glad we went! We were welcomed by the owners, Ricky and his father, Sergio, with the warmest greetings and smiles. The place was spotless, and the menu was super easy to read with great combo choices. I ordered the famous Hole in the Wall Burger and Brick Fries, and we got a California Burger to go. You can taste that they grind their own meat, making the patties incredibly fresh, and the lettuce and raw onions were so crisp. We had Hole In the Wall Burger bookmarked for some time and finally decided to stop by to give them a try. It took us a while to give this place a try because it is a good 15+ minute drive for us and their menu wasn't very large, but we were glad we made the drive. We ordered the California Burger, the Hole In the Wall Burger, the Spicy Burger, and the Asada Fries. All the burgers were juicy, well cooked, and well seasoned. The Spicy Burger lived up to its name and had a good kick. Their special sauce was very reminiscent of similar thousand island-like burger sauces, but was a bit richer and had a bit more depth. Their asada fries were very flavorful and well loved that they had a lot of onions and used waffle fries. If there was any little thing to change, is would be that their buns were not as tender as I would have liked, but that didn't stop us from truly enjoying the burgers. We met Ricky who helped us with our order. He was super friendly and really made our first experience enjoyable. He also told us that his mother cooks the Mexican food in the back which was cute. Hole In the Wall is a great burger joint gem and we will definitely be back. read more

We decided to try Hole In the Wall Burger since we were shopping in the area. The restaurant is small with a few tables, definitely a hole in the wall spot. The worker took our order right away and we waited a few minutes before he brought our food to our table. We got the carne asada taco combo which came with two carne asada tacos, chips, guacamole, and a drink. And we also got the hole in the wall burger combo which came with fries, a drink, and their signature sauce. Everything tasted really fresh and yummy! Oh wow Im so surprised we discovered this place in Lake forest area! Fast and friendly service! They have a few seatings inside. Very unique flavor. They have a lot of options, the beef patty is sooo juicy and tender. My california burger consists of beef and fried eggs with avocado.( very interesting combo, but it fills me up really fast and I couldnt finish it). The fries!!! Fantastic food! I got the spicy burger and the criss-cut fries. The spicy burger has delicious, fresh-sliced jalapeno and mashed avocado. The onions and tomatoes were also delicious and fresh-tasting. The burger meat tasted like it was made from scratch - tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth, with just the right amount of crumbliness. The special sauce is pretty great too - distinctive and flavorful. My boyfriend has been here three times and he says it's probably the best burgers he has ever had. Once again, I was craving a burger after going to the beach and came across this place on Yelp. It was a 27 min drive from the beach but well worth it. I got the spicy burger and my bf got the California burger. My bf said the patty was juicy and cooked well. They have this one spicy aioli sauce that they give you on the side and it is definitely THEEE sauce. We got the Brick Fries too which is a variation of the animal fries from inn out. The sauce/seasoning was good but I'm not too sure about the waffle cut fries.. I think it would be better with regular French fries The service was amazing and I think his name is Ricky? He was extremely nice and courteous. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area or if you need a good burger after the beach (even though it's not That close to the beach) read more

Great little "Hole In The Wall" burger place. Food was about 4 stars. The extra star is for the man and woman working there on March 15th. The inside of the restaurant was nice and clean. The Spicy Burger was actually pretty good. The ingredients were fresh. It had a nice amount of avocado that was perfectly ripe. The jalapeños still had a slightly crisp bite with a nice kick. They were very fresh.The burger itself was hot and juicy. Cooked about medium well. The waffle style fries were very tasty especially with the dipping sauce. There were a large amount of them too. Fries are criss cut and have a great crunch to them. Not the biggest fan of there ranch they make in house, but I like that it's authentic. Lastly I had the spice burger and it had a good kick to it. You know it's good when your lips are stinging a bit after you are done with the burger. read more

I like a simple menu and they have it. We ordered the spicy burger and it was delicious, the cooked fresh cut jalapeños gave it a good flavor. The attendant was very helpful and patience with my three kids. We also got the asada fries and they were everything you could expect, large portion, melted cheese and a big scoop of plain avocado. The taco plate was also delicious, but the winner here was the mexican rice, that right there made the day. The green salsa is authentic. My kids loved the sauce that goes in your burger and they used it to dip the fries. The fries were crunchy and a little overcooked, but I like it crunchy. The place is a hole in the wall so don't expect a fancy ambiance. The food quality was good and the price fair. read more

Hole in the Wall has become our go-to burger spot for a reason. It's quick and laid-back, but the food tastes like something you'd expect from a much fancier place--fresh ingredients, thoughtful prep, and flavors that don't miss. The prices are also surprisingly reasonable for the quality you get. It's a family-owned place, and we always enjoy seeing Cori, Ricky, and Ricky's mom when we're there. They bring so much warmth to the experience, and it shows in the food. My usual is the California Burger, and it's also my husband and son's favorite. Tonight they switched it up. One ordered a double and the other tried the spicy burger... and both were solid choices. We also shared regular fries and carne asada fries, which were out of this world. My husband and I were in town and wanted to try something different other than the big chain restaurants. We definitely choose a good one. Service was great and very helpful. The food was great tasty & juicy burgers and the carne asada fries with the criss cut fries were bomb! I've had plenty of carne asada fries but never with the criss cut fries. They never got soggy they are cooked to perfection and keeps their crispiness to the last fry. The special sauce and salsa also big winners. This place is quite literally a hole in the wall burger shop that seems to be family owned. I was hungry while working and craving a burger so I decided to give this place a shot. I was met with a warm welcome from the son and I loved the fact that it was quiet. The son was incredibly kind and gave good recommendations and even gave me extra sauce to compliment the fries. Really good burger, juicy, delicious fries, the sauce is soooo good! Their fries are waffle fries and extra crispy, probably my favorite fries! Their sauce pairs great with the burger and fries. Only complaint is price is pretty expensive around $16-18 for a meal and there buns aren't my favorite. We tried this little burger spot on a Tuesday evening. There was adequate parking. It did not seem very busy when we went there. As most reviewers noted, the place is small. There was seating for 16 set up around 4 tables. No restroom. The dining area was clean. The decor looked neat and fresh. We ordered at the counter. The menu was very basic. The guy manning the register was very friendly. We ordered the Hole in the Wall Burger combo and a taco plate. The food was delivered to our table promptly. The burger was good. It was flavorful and cooked to about a medium well. Done but not overcooked or dry. The hamburger patty was a good size. The waffle fries that came as part of the combo were very good. It came with a side order of their "special sauce." It went well with my fries. The taco plate came with two tacos, guacamole and rice. One taco was chicken and the other was carne asada. The tacos were filled generously and tasted good. The tacos would be better with some tomatoes and lettuce. The guacamole was very good. The rice was just ok. The food was good enough that we would consider coming back. The price was bit up there for a hole in the wall but all burger places are pricey these days. read more

First of all, it's is a literal hole in the wall (no bathroom, no sink to wash hands), which honestly was part of the initial appeal. These kind of spots are known to have killer burgers. But this is not one of those spots. We were gravely disappointed by the dry buns and underwhelming tasteless patties. Yes the fries were crispy but that's not a reason to give this place such a high rating. Honestly It's really misleading. I don't like posting bad reviews but guilty feelings aside, for the benefit of the yelp community I felt like it must be done. If you are looking for a hole in the wall greasy delicious burger experience, unfortunately this place isn't it. read more

In some dishes, that flavor profile worked really well, but in others, it definitely didn't land the same way. We started with the warm artisan rosemary focaccia served with whipped honey butter. The bread itself had that same subtle tang I noticed throughout the meal, but the honey butter balanced it out nicely. The added sweetness helped cut through the tang, making it much more enjoyable overall. Next, we had the baked skillet mac and cheese, which was easily the standout of the entire meal. I don't say this lightly, but it was about as close to perfect as mac and cheese can get. It was rich, creamy, well-seasoned, and had that ideal baked texture on top. This dish alone made a strong impression. We also ordered the cast iron roasted Brussels sprouts. These had a similar tangy-sweet flavor like the focaccia, and overall they were actually quite good. However, the raisins added to the dish didn't really contribute anything meaningful. At first glance, I even thought they were corn, which was confusing. While the sprouts themselves were well-cooked and flavorful, the raisins felt unnecessary and didn't elevate the dish. The Caesar salad was probably my least favorite item. I'm not entirely sure why it was labeled a Caesar salad, because it didn't resemble the classic version at all. The Tijuana vinaigrette was extremely overpowering and leaned heavily acidic, almost like eating straight lemon. It lacked the creamy, rich, balanced flavor you expect from a traditional Caesar, which made it disappointing. For the main, I had the prime 10oz flat iron steak frites. The steak itself was cooked perfectly and had great flavor, so no complaints there. Unfortunately, the fries were cold when they arrived, which took away from the overall experience of the dish. Overall, the meal was okay. It's not something I would rave about, but it might be worth trying at least once. With such a limited menu, I expected a bit more consistency and refinement across the dishes. It wasn't the worst meal I've had, but it also wasn't the best just somewhere in the middle.

They poach the eggs perfectly for the prosciutto Benedict but they can be heavy handed on the hollandaise sauce. I'm surprised they don't make cappuccino or lattes. However, they have some good, strong coffee, soft drinks, beer, wine and craft cocktails with a full bar. The service has always been solid. Ricardo and Ryan took excellent care of us during our last visit. The parking lot is just before entering the gate to the golf course and membership isn't required to dine here.

Allowing employees to behave in a racist and disrespectful manner toward customers is unacceptable. What makes it even more disappointing is that I was actually considering bringing a group of coworkers here in the future. After this experience, I absolutely won't be doing that. The service was rude, unprofessional, and completely ruined what should have been a relaxing afternoon.
