I was recently stranded on 395 by Bridgeport. AAA put assigned my tow to Silver State. Unfortunately, there was also a fire that day by Lee Vining, making it impossible for a few of their drivers to reach me from that direction, and it looked like I would be stranded overnight. However, I got a call from Michael, saying that even though his day was over that he would come get me from where he was at in Gardnerville. He went above and beyond, and after disconnecting my driveshaft, he towed me to a repair facility in Gardnerville. They got us to the very best local mechanic service and a clean and safe RV park after our family's tow vehicle broke down on a recent camping trip. The dispatch person was extremely helpful and helped us to quickly select the best rated places to take our trailer and tow vehicle to. They also sent out a the kindest tow truck drive I have ever met (Admittedly, I don't know that many ;-) but he was great!) - that was when Dan came to the rescue. Corrupt, rude and childlike business owner. Both he and the receptionist come off as nice, but they denied me access to my car that had been totalled and then towed there. Fee after fee to see my car to get my belongings out. The third time I tried to get access to my car, the owner jumped out of his desk chair to get in my face when I wanted to take my hitch off my car. I had asked the insurance companies, who both said it would be ok. Instead of explaining his side, the owner was rude, demeaning, and aggressive towards me, calling me " a victim" in a nasty voice. Then he denied me access when my usually calm and logical husband stood up for me being treated like this. My son came from work in Reno to get my belongings out later that day, and called ahead to make sure it would be ok. Only when he got there did the business owner tell him he would need a signed authorization form from me. So when my son asked for a piece of paper to write the authorization on, the owner told him "we don't have paper". They were in the office. They ended up getting 6 or 7 days of storage fees before my car was finally able to be towed because of all the delays - should've only taken 1 day. Corrupt, rude, and childlike business owner. AAA dispatched this company to me. The radiator blew on my car as I was between Gardnerville and Bridgeport. After the call went through all the channels, I received a call from my driver. He was very polite on the phone and let me know where he was coming from and his ETA. He actually arrived sooner than his ETA, which was awesome. Evan was my driver. He immediately made me feel comfortable. Very personable and seemed experienced. He kept me informed as to why he needed to take pics of my vehicle and let me know that I could get in the truck if I wanted. I took him up on that. The inside of the truck was clean. There was music playing at a decent volume. And the AC was on. Thank god! Once my vehicle was loaded on the flatbed, Evan climbed up in the cab and off we went! We were able to have a comfortable conversation the entire time. Turns out the place I was towing to is actually right next door to Silver State Towing! Even was down to earth and very pleasant. AAA didn't pull up Silver State, but the folks at the Lee Vining Shell station gave me their number. The Shell station's towing was overbooked that week so they handed me their Silver State's card and said this is the only other towing company that will do the job. I stayed over night at a cool hotel and by the next day my car and I were towed to Reno. Apparently, the Eastern Sierras lack of mechanics so everyone, even in Bishop, are booked out for a week or more! Even the 80-year-old mechanic said, "Fuel pump, tow it to a dealership in Reno." Chris from Silver State did a fantastic job hooking up the car. That's when a woman ran to Chris begging to hook up her car. It wasn't going to work. But she needed to get her elderly parents to a Gardnerville. I suggested talking to the wonderful woman at Silver State (forgot her name, sorry!), and said I was ok with them riding with us. They'd have to leave their car in Lee Vining. They agreed, and we talked about the old times on our way up north. Chris was super professional and we had a fun convo the whole. I spoke with a women about a tow my insurance carrier ordered. I have AAA as well as tow service through all of my auto insurance carrier. I inquired about the tow service request that my insurance carrier ordered for y Harley. I inquired about a truck that was on the property as well. It was insured with an additional liability umbrella. The vin i had to be verified by the sheriff to complete my registration. She said she was canceling the tow for the motorcycle because I could not be there when the driver got there. She wanted me there waiting for the 120-150 minutes eta. Just in case they got there early. My insurance carrier was clear I was at the drop off and not the pick up of the tow. She rattled tat she was canceling the pick up and they were busy. Promptly hung up. I am a AAA insured and I am dumbfounded the way the call was handled. The kind of business that says we're busy, it's my way or no way, and then just hangs up. I contacted my insurance carrier with my experience. They were surprised at the lack of customer service I experienced. I was assured they were other options. They contacted another tow service and they were available and professional. I met the driver at the drop off location. I question if I should continue my AAA tow service. Our driver, Zach, called and kept in touch while he was on his way, helped guide us through the process of finding a shop to repair the car and even dropped us off at our hotel near the shop. Somehow, this company is still represented through AAA services, but calling for a tow at 8:30pm in Walker, CA, they said it would take about an hour due to distance. However after 1:30hrs passed, I had to call AAA to get an update, and it turns out they denied the request. Saying "they did not have any drivers available to drive the 80miles route (Walker to Mammoth Lakes) at that time, but would pick us up, take us to Gardnerville, and complete the tow in the morning. We ended up getting a motel room in town, called AAA the next morning, and to our surprise Silver State Towing then said to us "nothing was set in stone when we quoted that last night" and proceeded to tell us they wouldn't take the tow. I highly suggest they change their way of business and customer service skills before AAA gets too many complaints and takes them off the contract. read more

Called AAA for a tow. When silver state towing called to confirm to tow, they tried to inform me we were within a chain control area and since we didn't have chains on they would not pick us up. First of all we are NOT within a chain control area, when my husband expressed in the background "what the fuck" she said I will not be cursed at, we will not service you and hung up. I looked on Caltrains website to verify we were not in chain control area, said 20 miles south of state line, we were in Walker, which is 12 miles away from state line, so therefore not in the chain control area. I tried to call her back and apologize for the comment and express it's a little stressful when your car breaks down, that we in fact we're not cursing AT HER but the situation. She said I am refusing you service we will NOT tow you and hung up. What a fucking bitch, now I'm cursing at you fucking bitch! read more

I called Silver State Towing and was quoted $525 to have my Jeep pulled out of the snow and a tire changed. I reluctantly agreed as there was recently a really bad storm and I knew it was going to be busy / expensive for that particular day. Minutes after they told me that Greg was on the way my passenger told me they had AAA and could get this handled for me for free. We called AAA and they actually assigned the same company and driver! (Greg at Silver State). I called Silver State dispatch to ask that they not charge the credit card they had on file, and instead bill AAA. Their dispatch said they'd have to call me back. I called again and they said the tow truck driver would make the switch. When the tow truck driver came out he said he could not bill AAA as AAA would not approve it since I didn't have chains. That is BS. My vehicle is 4WD and has snow tires so I don't need chains. I guess they're in the business to practice scandalous and deceitful tactics. read more

The first truck that came wasn't a flat bed, which was what our car needed. No problem; the driver cheerfully called a coworker and arranged for a quad cab flatbed. The flatbed arrived quickly and took me, my husband and our daughter along with the car to a nearby hotel for the night. In the morning AAA sent Silver State to pick the three of us and our car up and take it to a shop in Carson City. All three drivers we worked with were quick, efficient, courteous and professional. This company was completely unwilling to help me out after being towed from a nearby mountain town after my radiator had split coming home from Mount Whitney. I was promised after spending one night stranded in Bridgeport, Ca that the next day AAA would approve a tow to gardnerville for a continuation tow to Sacramento. This is due to the limitations of where the Southern California AAA club can drive. Upon arriving in Gardnerville, Ca. The women that worked there was incredibly rude and suggested that there was no conversation that involved my car being towed there. No empathy whatsoever for the situation more like "get your car off my property". AAA had me waiting about 6 hours and they were communicating with this towing company. Whatever conversation was had completely rejected the justification for towing my car. I was well within what was allowed and AAA is supposed to find a tow truck that can fulfill the trip as it was less than 200 miles. The towing company came to me a couple times ensuring me that nobody is driving you today. After two days with no help I had to find a nearby mechanic who would replace my radiator so I could finally get home. Whether it was AAA or this towing company that made assumptions about the situation, they didn't give a damn about the situation. This was incredibly mentally exhausting for me and I don't think that type of treatment should be tolerated. read more

Cody from Silver State Towing restored my faith in humanity. We had a van die at the 7-11 gas pump. Cody hung out with my wife for a long time while she talked to me on the phone to figure out the best place to move it. After we made a decision, Cody realized that the van couldn't be put into neutral because it is all electronic shifting, so the drive shaft would have to be dropped, requiring special tools that he did not have. He left, expressing his regrets. An hour later, after I drove to meet my wife and figure out what else to do, Cody unexpectedly returned. He had spent time online learning a trick for getting the van into neutral without starting it or dropping the drive shaft. He got it into neutral and then pushed the van up a slight incline (5500 pounds, this dude is burly!!) to a safe parking spot. Then he refused payment. We broke down in the middle of nowhere with no cell service. After flagging down a police officer, Michael came late at night to pick us up about an hour outside of town. It was an expensive ride back, but he was very friendly and was the only person willing to come get us. Due to covid he was only allowed to drop us off at the nearest town. The next day we could not find a ride to our car, so we called the tow company. They managed to help us find a small taxi company to come get us. We would have been stranded if it wasn't for them. read more

AAA sent them to pull our truck out of a ditch. It slid in when my husband helped a neighbor get unstuck from the snow. They sent a 2WD truck and he couldn't make it up the road. We were told they would have to get a 4WD truck up here and they have it. He made notes for that to happen. I then get a notification from AAA that the service was complete. Clearly the truck still being stuck in the ditch and the tow truck driver never making it to our truck does not warrant it complete so that they could be paid. I get a phone call from a woman that says AAA won't pay for them to pull us out of the ditch because it's private party. And that we would have to pay them $500+ for them to use their commercial truck. I pay for Premier service so that they use a commercial truck if we ever need our big motorhome towed. So That is definitely not true. I said that isn't true and she got all pissy. She then said they can't get it out until the street is plowed because they don't have the equipment to do so (that's a very different scenario). I asked if they are the only towing company that AAA uses in the valley and she says "yes and we won't be calling you back" and hangs up on me. What an incredibly unprofessional business. I e filed a complaint with AAA because I've paid for their Premier Services for over 20 years and have rarely ever called for help. The one time we need help and there is no one around. read more

Because of the heavy snow, the first towing service at the Lake took 45 minutes to decide not to show. Silver State got the second call. If I could give this place zero stars I would. They contract thru AAA. They told me they will cover up to a 100 yards off the road. Rick or rich didn't even look at where my truck was before he said aaa wouldn't cover it. Since I didn't have cash in hand he turned the job down. He didn't even measure to see how far my truck was out. Rick was just a dick on the phone and when he was out on site. He's just lazy and didn't want to get his shoes dirty. When I called the office he changed his story to say aaa won't cover anything over a hundred feet when he clearly said on the phone 100 yard multiple times and then had to chance his story cuz he didn't want to get his white shoes dirty. I've used aaa for years and all the tow truck drivers have never given me any problems and I've been in a way worse situation.
