Where do I start... we ordered the Rueben dip as an appetizer and let me tell you. Chunks of corned beef mixed with deliciousness in every bite! Wowza! Even the table next to us heard us and ordered it! Loved it too! Then my hubbs ordered the Corned beef and Cabbage. Beautifully plated and they are not stingy! I ordered the Roast beef and I think I had a half a cow! And the flavors were explosive and it's not even the Fourth! Then we Had to get the cake-Guinness Chocolate Cake w/ Bailey's Irish Cream Frosting! It's a dense, semi sweet, not too much frosting indulgence of a cake. I recommend you wear your "fat pants". Just saying! #delicious

Red Rooster was rated by Yelp a year ago as having the best fried chicken in Nebraska. It was really that good! So I thought the best test of the new restaurant would be the fried chicken. I ordered the 4 piece with mashed potatoes and white gravy. Unfortunately it was disappointing. The breading was off and it was way too salty. On this night it was NOT the best fried chicken in Nebraska. The homemade white gravy was over-salted and tasted out of a jar, unlike the delicious homemade gravy Ron made when it was Red Rooster. Two people at our table said the same about the meatloaf and dark gravy. The gravy was also over-salted and it didn't taste homemade. Service was unusually clunky and we only saw one regular server. Everyone else was new. The decor in the Restaurant was different too. Not bad but just different. I'm hoping this was a one off experience because we really liked the Red Rooster. I'm not sure why the new owners of Route 77 made so many changes to a successful restaurant that was already working well. I hope they figure it out. Last night it was not worth the trip from Lincoln to Ceresco.

For those who are just want to get down there and eat without the bike ride. It is still about a good 20 minute drive south of Council Bluffs off of route 29. Street parking is available. Named for a beloved pet, pets are allowed in the outdoor seating area. Offering both indoor and outdoor dining area. The hours are now limited: lunch 11-1:30, they now close for the afternoon and then reopens-about 5 PM for dinner. Check hours as they are prone to seasonal fluctuations. They are now also closed on Mondays. This is a very casual, old fashion diner type experience with a full bar. They occasionally have live music in the outside patio area. This destination has been there for decades and not only attract bike trail enthusiasts, but steel horse riders as well! Service is always super pleasant and helpful, and also very casual. Grab your menu, order at the counter, and it's brought out to where you're seated. If you need refills, bring it up to the bar and they'll take care of you. There is a more limited lunch menu and a larger menu for the dinner hours. They have an awesome tenderloin sandwich, and we just love their appetizers that will give you your fried food fix, including the garlic mushrooms, cauliflower, and really great onion rings. Also a recommended location to get your fix for a Barburger, with any combination of toppings, you desire! Want to get out of downtown and look at some pretty farm fields, check out Tobey Jack's for a very laid-back casual time with great food.
