Great Scott and Holy Moly Batman! Yes true believers when looking to solve that inner nerd collection of comics or collectables this is the place to go to. They have an unbelievable amount of comics and collectables that revert me back to being a kid (in a candy store). I can always find something of interest, DC, Marvel or independent if they dont have it I am sure they know of it. For me the knowledge of the staff is great as many of them collect and or read comics and therefore I have some interesting talks or debates . I highly recommend this comic store for the collector in you! Also they have a pretty cool little cafe to get a coffee or drink inside as well. Hero up! read more

I must admit I have been coming to the Silver Snail since I was in middle school back in the day. I used to frequent the old Queen location and to be honest it felt a little weird when they moved to Yonge Street. I do miss the size of the old location and the selection of toys and comics seemed to be a lot larger in comparison. The location however is much better and being so close to other shops makes the trip downtown worth it. I always appreciated the friendly staff at the old location and this one is no different. The staff are very knowledgeable in their respective departments and usually have a good idea about what is new in stock and what will be coming in. I mainly collect action figures and the staff are quick to let me know all the new stock via phone, online or in person in the store. The prices are a bit higher than the old location, but that is mainly due to inflation and the fact that the new location probably costs them a lot more in rent. I don't mind paying a bit more as long as the items that I want are in stock. That may be one of the rare issues that this location may have. When a new and hot toy comes out, they are usually sold out within the few hours it was released. To be expected so just make sure to try and get that item put on hold. Staff is very friendly and accommodating with issues about the products as well. An example would be I purchased a Transformers the Loyal Subjects blind box, in which the figure was completely broken at the hip when I opened it. The manager was quick to address the issue and offer me a replacement immediately. That's the kind of service I would expect from a comic shop, where I spend hundreds of dollars a month! I will be coming back whenever I am in the area, to one of my favourite comic shops around town! read more

The name itself brings a lot of good memories as I used to visit their old location quite a bit when I was in High School. Before it was fashionable to like comic books or comic book related movies, I grew up liking and collecting it. My comic book collection is still somewhere in my parents basement. This location is definitely not as big as their old Queen Street West location but I think it suits the new business climate where a physical store needs to compete with online services and keep their cost down to survive. The store is located in the second floor at the Yonge and Dundas area. The main racks of comics has been placed in the middle with a big rack for the New Releases along with their innovative drawers system for their back issues. They also have a wide variety of trades too. You won't find every back issue but they have a helpful staff to see if they can get it for you. They also have the Black Canary cafe where you can grab a coffee or expresso after your purchase and look over Yonge Street. On the other side, they dedicate to hobbies and specialty figures. The stores also have a variety of Statues, Funko Pop and Action Figures for sale. Also, they seem to be children friendly as I saw a lot of parents and their children shopping there during my visit. The only reason why this store doesn't get a perfect score is how they display their new comic books releases on the rack. The way is displayed, they can easily be bent. As other reviewers have stated, they should place with a backing board and comic bag but they don't do that. This is a major turn off for serious collectors who care about the condition of their comic books. That's my only complaint about this business. Other than that, it is highly recommended! read more

The back stock is very good but quite overpriced. However if money is not a concern then by all means check it out. My main complaint is with some of the staff. Many times its like they are there to chat with each other and ignore customers (unless you are right at the cash register with cash in hand then they are all over it). But God help you if certain staff take "an interest in you" I had one fellow who thought I was a shoplifter (I had a full "Chapters" branded bag of books from Chapters store I had just visited so I believe he thought I would snag one of the current comics into the bag. Thats rich since many current comics aren't worth the paper they are printed on!) Anyway I purchased a few expensive back issues and later I complained and literally all I got was "What do you want us to do about it?" Nice. Real classy! It did not matter that I had just dropped about $250 cad at their shop, I was treated as a "problem". I won't be going there again! But ymmv. They do have a nice (but quite small) coffee shop near the front of the shop but the tea and coffee and muffins are quite overpriced. read more

I'll tell you one thing: You don't go to a Silver Snail for the service or value. You go because it's a fairly iconic part of the geek world. It's like Macy's for geeks. I don't know if that's worth it. It seems whenever I go they either don't really have anything I want, or it's more than I'm willing to give for it. BOTTOM LINE: The new Silver Snail remains one of the better comic book / hobby stores in town, and now it comes with a coffee shop! Recently relocated from their signature Queen West location, the saturation of comic book / board game / hobby store around this area has hit an all-time high with the Hairy Tarantula, 401 Games and One Million Comix all within a 10-minute radius. The Silver Snail easily provides the best retail experience with the largest selection of comics and toys, at slightly higher costs. They're located on the 2nd floor and their entrance is easy to miss - it's next to the (soon-to-be-opened) Five Guys Burgers. The newly renovated space is brightly lit and well-organized. They seem to have a vast selection of your main stream comics, but also a lot of graphic novels and manga. They had the new Walking Dead Compendium 2 out earlier than Amazon by 2 weeks! They also had a decent toy selection from Western to Japanese toy models (Sanrio, Studio GB, etc.). Finally, while I didn't have a chance to order from their cafe, I love the idea, and I think it'll make visiting here a much more social experience. read more

This place is awesome! It has nice, helpful staff and a nerdtastic atmosphere! It's well organized and stocked with plenty of statues, memorabilia and toys for all you collectors out there (Hands off anything Cyclops related! It's mine!) The place has a lot of great trinkets. Inside you'll find a nice little R2-D2 unit, batman and superman statues and even a cool pinball machine! Love that! Lastly, every once in a while, I'll order a cappuccino when I'm browsing comics. These guys go the extra mile by naming all their specials after comic/movie characters!! I recommend the Stay Puft one myself. Mmmmarshmallow! If you love comics and are interested in holding a collection, this place is downtown Toronto Nirvana. Although I'm not a comic book aficionado, I'd have to say Silver Snail is a super hero mecca. Unlike other comic book stores I've visited, this place is kept in immaculate order - clear plastic drawers house thousands of plastic covered comics all labeled and filed accordingly. There are tons and tons of super hero, nintendo and movie figurines laid out all over the store, many of which include signs that read "do not touch!". It was especially hard for me not to feel the creepy exterior of the LIFE SIZE alien head from the alien movies. They also have a huge selection of movie memorabilia, graphic novels (my boyfriend picked up The Watchmen, which I am dying to read!) and anything else a nerd in Toronto could possibly ask for. I've also been told by many a comic book lover that their prices are very competitive and their selection is outstanding. So for all of you looking for some super hero lovin' in your life, Silver Snail will treat you right. read more

Silver Snail isn't what it once was; the iconic wall art, graffiti alley, and home on trendy Queen Street West are gone. Although, Trendy Queen Street West left ages ago, which is partly why the Snail needed to move. If you're in the city, and you're looking for comic books, statues, or a really good cup of coffee (all variants thereof) you could do far worse. Silver Snail is, by far, the best comic book shop in Toronto. At no point will you feel as if you're about to be covered by the dust of two hundred unmoved long boxes. The staff are not judgmental, and the location - looking out onto Yonge Street, as you sip your caffeinated beverage, is hard to beat. read more

Well, during our Thanksgiving 2017 trip to Toronto, we ended up in this store while out and about. What a great little gem! The store is everything you would expect from a comics store: shelves and shelves of comics, paraphernalia, t-shirts and other cookie and quirky and dorky things. Attendants were prompt and courteous, patient. Place is dimly lit, but enough to see what's going on. They have an awesome coffeeshop in there as well --the Black Canary. We ended up buying a couple of things and left feeling great. If you're in Toronto and into comics and espresso drinks, this is a place you have to check out. read more

Upon entering, the store has an earthy old smell to it, quite endearing but after a while gets to be too much. There are tons of comic books and action figures. I didn't realize there was such a big interest in action figures! I played with boy toys when I was little, and I'm pretty sure I had some valuable pieces in my collection. Pretty hip shop, if you're looking for a particular comic (on the second time I went, they didn't have the comic my friend was looking for) - there's as good as a chance you'll find it here. read more

Where to start? I had heard good feedback from them of years ago, so I've ordered online, 3 orders, almost 400$ worth of trade paperbacks. After a month and half, I received only a partial fullfillement of my orders. ONLY after contacting them multiple times to get a status. Apparently, what they have on their website is not what is in stock. I still have almost 200$ worth of trade paper back STILL NOT SHIPPED, and NO IDEA WHEN OR IF they will be shipped AFTER OVER 2 MONTHS. NO COMMUNICATION, I was promised a status the following week; 2 weeks later, *I* had to email again to get some feedback. I've been patient, but this is unacceptable. I really hope they learn from their mistakes, but for me, they have a long way to come to regain my trust. AND THOSE WERE MY FIRST (and last) ORDERS WITH THEM. read more

This place is my local shop and they have a great selection of stuff. But their customer service is non-existant to horrible. The staff is rude, dismissive, and on the phone they're actually downright hostile or rude. Their policies seem to vary from person to person regarding holds or adding items to pull lists. The selection is good and you can order stuff from them which is great. But the service is just completely lacking, enough that I'm probably going to find a new local shop. This a great store with a cool little cafe that I love. The store gets -1 stars because the wifi is absolute trash (a dial-up modem is faster) and the gaming section is tiny (no board games, just a small selection of Magic and Warhammer). In terms of comics, they have a good selection including manga and children's comics/graphic novels. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this place. Its in part because of the 80's Silver Snail that I have a career today, live in LA (that's not a bonus), and achieved many of my dreams in life. I walked in here around 8-10 years of age. I guess that was something like 24 years ago. To be frank, I have no idea how long they've been around for but most of my childhood was spent looking forward to Toronto trips to come in and shop for anime (and comics). Eventually, I moved to TO but by then, comics were not what they were and neither was Silver Snail. But it was at Silver Snail that I had my first glimpse at Leiji Matsumoto's Captain Harlock character, and the original Macross Movie: Love Do You Remember, which got me hooked on Asia, art, drawing and everything connected to it. Whoever was or is the buyer here, at least from the era that I refer to, I owe this person or persons a huge debt of gratitude. Their risk taking in bringing over anime when no one knew what it was, and their incredible selection really changed my whole life. It is true that their staff have never been too engaging but of course, they are always helpful. Comic people are usually introverts which you should know if you have ever had a brother locked in the basement more into Mary Jane Watson than the girls in his class. But these are the instruments of our dreams, and basically this is what Silver Snails has been selling for all these years. Dreams. I bought some of mine here and weaved the rest myself. For that, and for everything they have meant to the 1000's (millions?) they have helped shape over the year into successful artists, creative thinkers, media professionals, etc. - they have my sincere gratitude. It is true that the present direction of the store is not what I would wish it to be (I prefer the old assortment of vintage comics and extremely rare anime/toys) but that's not really all that pertinent. Its still kicks the butt of the competition in Toronto and who knows, maybe the tide will turn again. 5 stars to a great shop and to the people who made it possible, wherever they may be. read more

Silver Snail has been around for a long time and is the go to place for comics, statues, and whatever else, geek related, you could possibly imagine. The store is always well stocked and if you can't find it, they can order it. Some of the staff, on the other hand, are something else entirely. I wanted to get something out of the glass case near the front of the store. The cashier had a line up, so I went to the back of the store where two or three employees were debating the merits of the tv shows Arrow and Agents of Shield. I asked one employee if he could get the product for me, he said not right now, but in a few minutes. I went to the front and asked the cashier if he could get it, which he did. He at least asked the customer to hang on a sec and went and got it for me. The cashier was a bigger help then the employees at the back, who were more interested in chatting. read more

Alright folks, I AM NOT A COMIC BOOK READER. I love all the X-MEN movies, Batman is my favourite hero, and I finished the two short seasons of Young Justice. What? Her name is Gwen (and not Mary Jane) in The Amazing Spider-Man? SO NO, I am not your girl to ask about comic books!!! Apologies for the ditsy comments above ^^^^ Anyways, perhaps **someone out there** is interested in my opinion of Silver Snail Comic. ..... Dear interested readers, I'm so glad you have decided to read my review! I give this a 5 star because: 1) This shop is very clean, modern decor, and ORGANIZED. Yes, you will find what you are looking for without asking! Of course, you can also ask! 2) The staff DOES NOT look at me with a snobby thought, "Girl, you don't belong here." I absolutely cannot stand shop owners that look at their customers that way. (I CHOSE to come in, so they shouldn't judge me by looks!) A+ because I felt very welcomed at Silver Snail Comic. 3) The staff left me alone as I was browsing but were happy to jump in when I needed help. They didn't make small talks, yet they were very approachable. 4) OK. THE GOODS THEY SELL: As expected, I wouldn't buy the expensive action figures (oh my gosh, they were A++ quality though!) even though they are beautifully displayed on the shelves. The large Hulk figure looked amazing with so much attention to detail. I found lots of hardcover, elegantly-crafted comic books. Don't laugh when I say this. I LOVE blind boxes! They have tons!!! At the time of my visit, their Toki Doki collection actually was better than Magic Pony 680 Queen St. W. They also have Hello Kitty with moustache mint tins. Kidrobot and Paul Frank can also be found here. I bought the Ghostbusters ice cube tray for my boyfriend for $18.07 (PRICEY for 12 cubes!! The cubes don't turn out well FYI...) I'm taking my boyfriend here next. We aren't comic book readers but we do enjoy browsing for geeky items and toys. Huge selection of mainstream comics, but... where are the smaller/eclectic/lesser known works? I didn't see a section with european comics (like Jason et al). I was also looking for a copy of Jim Woodring's latest work Congress of Animals, and 2 of the staff didn't know who Woodring was and looked for it in a small-format comic book section, even after I told them it was a book - maybe they are not used to female patrons who know their dark horse from a hole in the ground. Perhaps I am spoiled having been a regular at The Comic Shop in Vancouver for many years, but the staff there are familiar with their stock and with new and old artists alike. They didn't take an order for the book either. I know it was a busy day and some Battlestar Galactica guy was signing things but seriously, I was there to spend some dosh and am going to find someplace else to do so now. I guess if you want regular comics and some comic book decorations and dolls, it's a great place, but I was severely underwhelmed. I need a place that covers a lot more ground than this. read more

Fantastic place to pick up your comics and toys--that is, unless you have to interact with the employees. Aside from the fact that they easily make you feel ignored, a good few of the employees here are rude and uncaring for maintaining new loyal customers. I've seen "friends" of some employees come in and talk to each other while they process my transaction at the counter, making it hard for me to ask questions or ask for my pull list to be updated. Employees don't really seem to go out of their way to help you either. I wanted to create a new pull list and preorder some statues, so I asked the employee at the counter to help me after I made my purchase. She didn't really seem to know which other employee could handle the preorder and just kind of shrugged me off when she could have asked for me. I decided it was too much trouble and let it at that. I really enjoy silver snail for what it is, and they get a ton of product in, but customer service is pretty lacking and seem to be more accommodating for the regulars who come in. read more

Surprise surprise. Nice store, good selection. Has a flight of stairs to walk up to get in, so wont wear my heels next time. I found the book easily. I liked their store-bag. It was cool. But only when I was long gone, miles away from the store, did I discover that the comic book I bought had a bite-like chunk ripped off the front cover. How did I not notice that????? And how did the person at the cash not TELL me? I don't need their stupid cover protector for the comic anymore. Upon entering i immediately loved the decor. A life sized Spider-Man is suspended from the ceiling above the stairs with colourful artwork lining the walls as you walk the flight of stairs. Upon entering, a small cafe is on the left with a life sized R2d2 at the end of the counter. I'm a huge r2d2 fan so i geeked out at this! The comic portion of the shop is spacious and organized with a ton of memorabilia lining the tops of the displays and the walls. I had some difficulty finding Harley Quinn comics so I asked a guy behind the counter who immediately showed me where to find them. I feel like their comics aren't labeled in a way you could find what you wanted on your own if it was your first time there. Thankfully the staff is friendly and willing to help. Once the staff member showed me where the Harley Quinn comics were I was pleasantly surprised both with the selection available on individual issues and their price point. I left with a comic issue i didn't have and will definitely be back again to grab more and try the cafe. Great place! read more

I like to think Silver Snail and Hairy Tarantula are two sides of the same coin: the former is clearly more trendy, but don't cater as well to certain items; the latter may not be as pretty, but has plenty of selection in regards to everything. The Silver Snail definitely is a trendy and cleaner spot. But you aren't going there for gaming. They have a great and organized selection of TPBs and back issues, as well as statues and action figures. The staff is also very helpful, but seem to have their jobs cut out reorganized the sturdy back issue cases. I would recommend hitting up both stores, but if you're in mixed company, hit up Silver Snail first. read more

Silver Snail is a great comic book store. almost 90% of the time I go to Silver Snail I buy something or I want to buy something and I'm not even a hardcore comic book fan. Silver Snail is located at a great location on Queen st and is very noticeable with its facade painted with popular super heroes. This if the type of place that would make Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons very proud. When you go inside you will be amazed at the interior of the place.The geek inside me does back flips whenever I'm here. It is not a very large place and the it feels very crowded at times but every nook and cranny is filled with merchandise. You will find many of the things that are "hot" in the geek world here. They have a huge array of hand made figures and even replica weapons from all your favourite characters. Most importantly they have a fairly large sized catalogue of new and classic comic books; be it western comics, Japanese mangas or critically acclaimed graphic novels. Lastly, Silver Snail keeps in-stock a bunch of popular designer toys. One great thing about Silver Snail is that they make buying comic books and related items, easy and accessible.Even though the staff are not always attentive and they sometimes ignore you, they do know the products they are selling very well. I once was finding a certain toy for a friend but I forgot the name of the toy and the people there were kind enough to help me go through a huge amount of ideas on what the name of the toy could have been Gladly with their help I found what I needed. In other stores, they tend to either not help you properly if you are not a regular or are not well informed enough to help. Try going to a Toys R Us and watch as the staff's faces stare at you with confusion and disdain when you ask for a machine gun wielding Moses action figure. This is probably one of Toronto's most popular comic book stores so if you are a hardcore fan of comics and you like your grungier, more underground joints, you won't find this store to your liking. One thing that does rub me the wrong way is that the pricing for many items at Silver Snail is quite expensive. I have heard that the pricing of books here is average compared to the competition but many of the toys and figurines are priced way too high for the average consumer. For example, they have a replica light saber from the Star Wars series that costs well over a hundred dollars. I say to myself that I would only buy that if it can actually cut down people that piss me off but it's nothing more than a stylized, silver metal tube. So, if you do have the cash, go and check out Silver Snail. No matter how much you enjoy or immerse yourself in geek culture I'm sure you will find something that will make the inner asthma prone geek in you jumping for joy. read more

Came in last night to get tickets for the Bedlam event in January. The store wasn't all that busy but there was a line of 5-6 people at the cash. Since I didn't have time to check out the rest of the store, I'll stick to my ticket buying experience. There was a lone cashier. She was really friendly and chatted with each customer as they passed through and she provided excellent customer service. The problem here though is that it's 3 days before Christmas and she was the lone cashier and was taking time to chat up each customer. This is great customer service, but if that is the level the store wants to provide to it's customers then get someone else helping the girl out. Have someone bagging the items while she's ringing them up so that the line keeps moving along. Also, customers, this is not your opportunity to ask complex questions. If you needed a question answered then find someone on the sales floor instead of holding up the 5 other people behind you with your geeky attempts to flirt with the cute cashier. read more

Like many others I have been going to Silver Snail for a long time, and while I loved the old stores location it needed to be revitalized. The new location and new look is great as well as a above average coffee bar that serves superhero themed drinks is a nice touch. Thats about where are the new things end, this is still the same old Silver Snail we know and for the most part love. While the selection for the most part is great the prices are still a little more then I'm willing to put down. That's not to say I won't buy things regularly (I do) it would make the deal sweeter if they came down just a little. Yes I know there is a recession blah blah save money blah blah higher prices (did I go to far probably) but its really the only thing that irks me about this place (oh and all the Doctor Who stuff....) since Toronto doesn't have that many good comic stores. Anyway the staff is friendly and nice, the atmosphere is also pretty awesome, and they have artists and writers in almost every week the Silver Snail is by far Toronto's best comic book store. The Snail makes up the triumvirate of comic book stores in Toronto for me. If I go to The Lounge for the atmosphere, The Beguiling for my comics, then the Snail is where I go when I need anything else. Toys, T-shirts, special editions, the Snail specializes in all the tools and accoutrements you need as a geek in the city. That said, if you don't have a LCS, then the Snail also would be more than adequate for you with a great selection of trades. No idea what their subscription policy is. Plus the staff is always pleasant and willing to help out with your questions. And Luthie makes the best Nutella Latte in the city, definitely grab one while you're there! read more

Silver Snail is probably the most popular comic shop in Toronto, but then I suppose that really depends on who you talk to. Many people know it as "the" comic shop, but as "the" comic guy amongst my friends, i would not send them here first. The store itself is excellent eye candy. They have an impressive selection and display of mini-busts, statues, replica props and toys. I compare it to a mini art gallery because of this, but I think the store leaves something to be desired on their comics. Their comics and graphic novel selection, while good, isn't the easiest to navigate. Often, I can't find what I'm looking for, and that's not always because they don't have it. The staff is possibly the best comic staff in the city. Every time I speak to the staff about anything (finding stuff, or just asking their opinions) they are very friendly and personable. There's a lot of hype about Silver Snail that I never quite understood. There's no doubt that they're the best place to go for action figures and similar collectables but if you're looking for anything outside that niche, you're not going to be in much luck. All of the new releases for comic books are layered amongst a number of shelves in the back. While the latest 2-3 issues of your favourite series are almost guaranteed to be here, Silver Snail's back issue selection is sort of lacking. There are no labels on the outsides of the drawers, so it takes me a while to figure out which one I should be looking in. When I do find the right drawer, I find out that the issues aren't in stock. Maybe I just have bad luck? Their manga selection is better than the average Chapters/Indigo, but pales in comparison to places like the World's Biggest Book Store and One Million Comix. The same thing can be said about most of their other stock; they have a decent selection of popular card games but a store like 401 Games is better. They do have a really nice collection of posters, but they have no list of what's there so you just have to spend a lot of time browsing through the many musty-smelling boards until you find something you like. I also find it sort of annoying that I can't tell the employees apart from the customers. I think its great that the employees can wear whatever they want, but they should be wearing a badge or something on their shirts to distinguish them from everyone else. I've accidentally asked just enough questions to non-employees to be put off from asking any more. So long story short: go to Silver Snail if you're looking for great toys and the latest issues of comic books. Otherwise, you might want to try looking for a place that specialises in whatever it is you're into. read more

I've never been in here to actually look for a comic book, only to purchase gifts for some fanboy and fangirl friends I have. They had alot of memorabilia that was on clearance which was perfect for what I was looking for. I had searched around a bit in similar shops in the neighborhood, and they only had items for the regular retail price. It has a great location, just north of the busy Yonge/Dundas Intersection. There is a small staircase next to the HMV which leads you upstairs to the shop. The store was crowded and a bit hard to navigate with such small hallways to walk through and people stopping to look on shelves. Most independent bookstores are similarly formatted cramming in as much as they can with limited space, but at least this store is very clean cut. The inside of the shop has a lot of cool items on display including a large map of middle earth. There is a little cafe area at the end of the store to hang out and read. Would definitely come back to check out their new stock when i'm in the neighborhood again. read more

While the Silver Snail is now located on Yonge in the heart of Downtown, and in a smaller venue than its former Queen St. W. location, I still have to give it 5 stars. They usually have what I want, and if they don't they are more than willing to order it for me at no additional charge. Plus the new location has a coffee shop now called the Black Canary! I only expect the true comic book geeks to get the name...LOL The 5 stars is also a sentimental thing. I've been going to the Silver Snail since the early 80s.
