First stop in Virginia City. Always love to start off here and enjoy our time for a drink (or 3) before making our way through the shops and other bars. Love their vibe!

What a fun place. By far my favorite of the saloons we visited on a recent trip to Virginia City, where we hadn't been since we both were kids. There is a lot more mischief to get into here when you're of age. So the first thing to remember is that this bar is cash only. They do have an ATM, but I'm not sure what the fee is, since we both actually had some cash for once. The entrance may be hard to spot, as it's a dimly lit stairwell down from C Street (the main drag), but it's the stairwell down that intrigued us in the first place. We just couldn't pass it up. Once inside, it was medium crowded, but our drinks were served up with hardly any wait at all. I decided I would like to see the view from the back deck and get some air, so this is where we went in search of a spot to enjoy drinkies. At typical drinking establishments one is not greeted straight away unless one is a regular, but the back deck people here treated us like we were old friends. I am a bit socially awkward, but I still felt comfortable talking to complete strangers here. The vibe was very friendly and welcoming. We met two couples from Calaveras County and their assorted friends and family members who come to Virginia City annually to celebrate a birthday of one of the wives. They even offered us a place to sit, which was very nice. I could have spent the rest of my afternoon here easily, what with the vibe, cheap drinks, and the "100 Mile View" of the mountain pass from the deck. It was so relaxing. We did have a lot to explore on our day trip, but still, the temptation was there. I will absolutely be back next time we come, which I hope will be soon! Bathrooms: Yes, though I did not use them *Watch Your Step kind of establishment, be aware of uneven flooring

Truly an old west hole in the wall - if you know where it is. The stairwell entrance is nestled between two store fronts on the east side of C Street. Be careful heading down those narrow steep steps. The small old spot has just six tables and a dozen stools at the bar. Satellite radio and a jukebox are both available. Hippie John was out bartender for the night. Quite the character and a basic bartender so don't order anything thing fancy. We had a great time until for some reason around 10 pm the place became flooded with more patrons- a few a little too drunk or demanding and not nice to John. If you have had enough to drive you can leave a bra on the line. Or autograph a dollar bill and staple anywhere on the wall or ceiling you can reach. One of many old time saloons in VC to check out.

I'm sorry to hear this place is closed. On a recent two day visit to Virginia City this was one of our favorite bars to hang out at. This was the only place that had a personable bartender who seemed to actually care how we were doing. I can't recall his name but he was awesome. I've included a picture of him from behind. I know I should have a better shot, but when your drinking you don't take the best photos. Anyway if you recognize yourself in this photo...thanks we had a great time because of you.

John.

This is the penultimate dive bar. Come here expecting strong cheap drinks, great music, and a fight or two.

The staff are very friendly and helpful from the moment you walk in the door. The place was very clean also. I ordered the Classic Reuben with cole slaw. There is a small upcharge for sides other than fries. The Reuben was the BEST i have ever had. That includes the famous delis in New York city . However, the cole slaw was not very good. I told our server and he offered me something else , which I appreciated . I definitely recommend this restaurant when your visiting Virginia City. You won't be dissapointed.

The decor definitely fit the name, and the staff passed the vibe check. Greeted immediately and sat at a sizable table, I noticed plenty of seating availability; however, space was rather tight with regard to table placement. We found the menu to be extensive and combed through the plethora of choices before landing on our final decisions. Always eager to try new things, I noticed there were quite a few specialty cocktails, including spiked milkshakes. I opted for the Vanilla Kahlua, and I would do it all over again! The milkshake was blended to perfection, smooth with a little razzle-dazzle you didn't know you needed. The kids opted for chocolate milkshakes they loved and rated 10/10. Very much like our other dining experiences, the kids settled on chicken tenders and fries while we, on the other hand, chose to explore our options. We started off with chilli cheese fries along with spinach and artichoke dip served with house-made tortilla chips. The portions for both appetizers were well-sized and delicious. We managed to get quite the cheese pull with the chilli cheese fries, and the house-made tortilla chips were most definitely worth writing home about; they were perfectly sized, light, and airy with an excellent amount of crisp that added texture to the flavorsome spinach and artichoke dip. For our entrees, he ordered the bacon egg and cheese burger with fries; there was an option for a turkey Reuben; however, I'm not a fan of sauerkraut, so I politely requested a turkey Rachel, and although it wasn't an option on the menu, they obliged much to my heart's delight! It's the little things Of course, the food did not disappoint! My sandwich was toasted impeccably with the right amount of butter melted, offering a decadent crisp that merged nicely with fillings making up my sandwich. Truthfully, I was beyond impressed with the aesthetic of the establishment, the services provided, and how flavorful the food was. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable, and engaging, which made our experience even more memorable, so much so that we eagerly anticipate our next visit.

Apparently, he still owns the buildings but is not allowed to run the busines or even hang out during business hours. Anyways...... This place has the best Bloody Mary's in Virgina City. HANDS DOWN. Bucket of Blood and the Delta dont compare. (I've had jsut about every bar's bloody mary in VC.) I like my Bloody Mar with side car of Miller high life. Now, for you folks not form the midwest, many of the bars will pour you a small glass (4-5oz) of beer whenyou order a bloody mary. We call that a side car. They dont do that here....(but they should!! HINT HINT to Bonanza bartenders!) So, I basically make my own and order a cold beer and share it bewteen the two of us. Th place is huge and they could host a huge party or even a large wedding easily. The restaurant next door is a Mexican resturant and I'm not sure if it is owned by the same owner or there is just a cooperative agreeement but they will serve you in eother location and they are connected on the inside. There were two people there that were waiting for food. Somebody who ordered a hamburger after us got theirs before we got our nachos. Nachos without meat.
