12/23/20 - I order out delivery for the summertime cod with Spanish and asparagus. I wasn't disappointed too much in the vegetables but the cod seemed unflavored and somewhat watery. I remember having it in a lemon like flavor before. But what was majorly disappointing was having us get two biscuits and they were as hard as a rock. We had to throw them out. Basically, I know the only good diners are in Philadelphia. But we tried this one in Greenbelt. The service was very good, and the restaurant was very clean and even pretty. Unfortunately, my pastrami Reuben was on some big ole bread and lacked meat (where's the beef?), was flavorless and the sour kraut was putrid like vinegar. Food and Service were excellent. I did wait a long time. Total dining experience by myself was about an hour and a half. The staff is amazing and personable. I hate to post a review for Silver Diner, however, my experience this past Mother's Day was awful!! My daughter's ordered brunch for me as their first thank you. Order was placed around 11am with Door Dash as delivery company and we waited nearly 2 hours. We tried contacting Door Dash who of course was not answering and then we tried contacting Silver Diner - who unfortunately was not answering either!! Door Dash was reporting our food as "delivered" when in fact - clearly it hadn't been since we never received a call, contact or any communication regarding our order. After being flustered with waiting around so long, something told me to go downstairs to the rental office. (which has a BIG notice saying the office was closed and mind you we live in a 600+ apartment complex - making it much more important to communicate with the person ordering the food to arrange meet up!!!) Long and behold, guess what we found hiding behind a planter on the cement GROUND for 2 hours???? NO phone calls, text, email - NOTHING!!! I have been here numerous times and never had a complaint. I always find the parking lot to be full but there's parking in the back and in front of the UPS store next door. Sliver diner ain't the Sliver diner anymore (at least not the one I was use to growing up). I was looking for greasy diner food. It was there and so much more. Now I have to admit it's been about 10yrs since I had been to one mainly because there is not one near me. First thing I noticed was alcohol. I figured ok the sliver diner has grown up. Cool. Then it was the number of healthier choices. I don't know that there were any on my last visit. So much so I was inspired to try a salad with quinoa. It was the ancient grain shrimp bowl. And it was Awesome! Flavors from the fresh mozzarella to the dressing to the rosted tomatoes and watermelon radish were all awesome. only thing I wasn't keen on was the olives (that's just cause I'm not an olive fan). The funny thing was the other orders were a hamburger and two Carolina shrimp scampis. Now all portions were nice size. However the scampi's were bland and the burger ok, just ok and that is a diner staple. I will definitely go back again. And give them another shot. And that's just off the salad! Nothing extraordinary about my experience here. Food was a bit slow at about ~20 minutes after we ordered. The diner ambiance was nice though and we really enjoyed having the jukeboxes on the dinner booths because those were a lot of fun. Quantity of food was pretty generous even though taste wasn't super amazing (it's your typical hearty diner food) and prices are a little high. For reference I got an omelet with a side of fruit and biscuit which came out to about $13. Omelet was pretty veggie packed. Fruit was a nice cup. Biscuit was actually pretty tasty. It wasn't the greatest experience. We had the lamb burger with sweet potato fries and was thoroughly disappointed. Next time I'll just stick to the Caramel French toast. I've eaten at 4 different Silver Diners on 4 different occasions, and each time I've been completely underwhelmed by the food, especially given the price point. Everything, from the home fries to the omelettes to the biscuits to the sausage, is virtually flavorless. Even the cheese used in the omelettes (what little of it they put in there) is insipid. It's as if the kitchen has decided not to use any seasonings. Honestly, the breakfast biscuits at McDonald's are more flavorful and have a better texture. The place publicizes and prides itself on the fact that it was founded and is run by a gourmet chef. But I have yet to find any evidence of anything even close to gourmet cooking or flavors here. Maybe the higher-end items are more flavorful and are the thing to get, but in my view, if a restaurant can't get the basics right (like biscuits or omelettes or hash browns) then I'm not inclined to try the more expensive offerings. If you're looking for diner-style breakfast food, you'll get much more flavorful food at a lower price at either IHOP or Denny's or just about any other diner. If you're looking for something interesting for lunch or dinner, I've got to believe there are better options than this. There's no reason to return, so I won't. read more

Going to this diner was a spontaneous trip on July 20, 2018 to end the night with my family. My aunt and uncle who live in Maryland had suggested this diner, which wasn't too far away from the hotel we were staying at. The aesthetics of the diner was very pleasing, hence the multiple pictures I took. My parents and I didn't order big meals, simply dishes that we could snack on while we conversed with the others we came with. However, we were not seated at the same table as our party. We were placed at a table across the walkway, so it was difficult to converse with the others. When we tried to move to a table that seemed like our whole party could fit, the booth was too small. The waiter mixed up an order and would take forever to come check on the table. My mom ordered unlimited tea but since the waiter didn't come back to the table, she only had one cup of tea. went here with my girlfriends for dinner on saturday night after a day of shopping at the mall, we were hungry, so i was a bit disappointed at how long it took for our food to come. i understand that there were multiple large parties, but i was ready for that food to come! the hawaiian luau was good, but my friend's ribeye philly cheesesteak was sub par. ( this was a conversation starter ans I completely understand if they were . I said that because I saw MULTIPLE dirty tables) she said Nope. I said oh it's just that I see a lot of open tables , she goes "they are all dirty". I managed a restaurant for years , and I would fire her on the spot or give her a write up for this kind of altitude. In a Customer Service Environment you have to help each other. There are dirty tables next to her , some with just glasses , is it too hard for her to help out the rest of her team and clean it up? You might argue she can't leave the host station which brings me to my next point .. 2- the waiter came and told her 2 tables are ready . She took the people in front of us and went in the back to the bar area talking about me. I know this because the people she was talking to started looking towards us. She stayed in the back chit chatting for about 5 mins with different members of the team while we wait . She finally came to say follow me , when we went to the back guess what we found 9 fully clean tables in the back . Seriously ? Do you not want the business. Had a class to go to, it was kinda late, not many options open, so we decided to hit up thee Silver Diner. I've never been, but I have heard great things. I mean who doesn't love a diner? Yummo food and breffis ALLLLLL day! It seems like thee SD has changed some things around, as they now have locally sourced food, and very in my opinion not very diner-ish options. I mean who has heard of edamame hummus or brussel sprouts and lentils at a diner? Hey, now worries, I dug. When we arrived there was no wait. There is a nicely sized menu with plenty of options. If you're looking for something light to something uber heavy, they got you covered. At first I thought that I wanted a salad, that was until I saw that breffis menu. Yes! I tried the power breakfast, which came with egg whites topped with cremini mushrooms, spinach, roasted tomatoes, and feta cheese. It also came with turkey bacon, now I wanted the full fat version so I got the home fries and the biscuit. The menu states that it comes with fresh strawberries and whole wheat toast, you know it was heart healthy and all. He got the flat iron steak and eggs. Once the order was placed, it didn't take long for the food to arrive, once it did...nice! Pretty large portions, and everything looked yummy! My eggs were cooked well, and the vegetables that were added were nicely seasoned, and having them mixed with the feta cheese was just great. The potatoes, I liked, but they were a wee bit under seasoned for my taste. The biscuit was great, can't get any better than that. The turkey bacon- not my fave. I think I would have liked full fat bacon or ham.... Now on the flip side, he was not happy at all with his food, stating that his steak was less than seasoned as was his eggs and potatoes....I mean it looked good though.
