Overall, a good experience! It was a little confusing at first figuring out where to go and what to…read moredo, but the staff was friendly, helpful, and walked me through the process. I felt pretty welcome even though I clearly had no idea what I was doing.
For anyone going for the first time, here's some details on how it works:
Before you go: Sort your scrap by metal type as best you can before showing up. Having everything separated ahead of time will make the process much easier.
General scrap/dirty steel: Leave it in your vehicle, drive onto the truck scale to get weighed, then unload your scrap and drive back around to get weighed again.
Brake rotors: These are worth a little more than regular scrap steel, so you can weigh them separately by making a second pair of trips across the truck scale if you like.
Copper, brass, aluminum, wire, electric motors, etc.: Put these in one of the rolling carts and bring them inside to the front desk, where they weigh the different materials separately.
Getting paid: Once everything has been weighed, give the staff at the front desk your truck scale tickets, and they'll add those weights to the other materials you've brought inside. You'll need a driver's license.
The whole process takes a little time, especially if you have several different types of scrap, but once you understand how it works, it's pretty straightforward.
The prices seemed fair based on the research I had done beforehand. It's probably not worth making a special trip for just a few small items, but if you've saved up a decent amount of scrap, it's worth it.
Overall, a positive experience, especially as a first-timer. I appreciated how approachable and patient everyone was, and I'd definitely go back.
