Alright, I'm on the fence here... Fences are made of metal, so you can scrap them here, by the way.
I mean, it's a scrapyard. You're not exactly dealing with Tiffany & Co. Diamond Consultants here. I will say that Ira is really nice, and so are most of his employees. They helped me empty my truck, and did their best to make sure my items were headed to the right place.
But, like most scrapyards, they pay bupkis here. I am NOT a scrapper, I just go here to throw away large appliances for a few bucks instead of actually PAYING a dump to take them away. Better than nothing, I guess. I once had two refrigerators... Got $9.25. Not exactly a living wage unless you can find 16 busted appliances a day.
Also, they do not close at 3PM. They close at 2:45. I once came at 2:50, and while they were happy to take my scrap metal for free, they wouldn't weigh my truck for the few dollars I would have received. I use my truck for work, and could not spend the night with a bunch of junk in it.
You're probably better off throwing your metal on the curb and putting up a Craigslist ad... some scrapper will take it in less than 24 hours. Not really worth the trip here unless you somehow came across a bin full of pure copper. read more
