I went here about 15 times and paid $50 each time which was a total rip off. Continue reading and you'll know why. The owner was nice at first but his incessant rambling about fake times in his life when he was "tough" is really annoying and are clearly fake stories. You can tell from the look in his eyes when he tries to see if you believe him. He is too cheap to pay for air conditioning and the place is always insanely hot especially in the summer. He says he does that on purpose to make you tougher but boxing for an hour straight in a building that feels like 120 degrees isn't very bright. His workouts are also something you can do at home by yourself. The first 45 minutes are just you on a bike, jump roping and then hitting the bags. THEN for the last 10 minutes he does the mitts with you. Lazy and was never tailored. I'll stop here. No reason to say the actual mean things. read more

I found Silva Boxing on a google search for MMA gyms close to my home. Today, I took my 14-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter to speak with the owner Frank about training my two kids. Frank was professional​ and made us feel really​ comfortable. He let my son train for an hour and my son loved it. My son had never boxed before and Frank was very patient with him. I'm definitely a 40 yr old who used to be in shape eight or so years ago and wants to be a reformed couch potato. I have been going to Frank for about two weeks now and it's incredible how much my cardiovascular strength has improved. Especially since I can't run because of having bad knees. I have done martial arts on and off throughout my life but I have to say Silva Boxing is hands down the best place. Frank himself as a person is just amazing. I can be having the worst day but his positive mood always picks me up. He is also a great boxing trainer. He's the first person to ever push me to the point where my arms and legs feel like noodles BUT I don't feel like I want to die the next day. I can still walk without being charlie horse and can't wait to go back after a day off in between sessions. Plus he does a great job working around my pre-existing injuries while providing intense work outs. Also you will love Manny he has a great sense of humor and is really knowledge. He has helped point out and fix alot of my technique flaws as well as provide recovery tips so I don't get stiff and sore the next day. You can learn a lot just watching him. I had just finished watching a top 10 boxing highlight reel on YouTube and I decided that I should try boxing for fun and then see where I'd go from there. I had absolutely no idea how it would go as all my life I had primarily been a water creature who swam and played water polo (Go Bruins!). Naturally I was quite uncoordinated and unconditioned to working intensively on land. I came into Silva's after googling the highest rated gyms in my area. The first that came up was, naturally, Silva's. I met the owner/ head coach, Frank, and he was a cool dude. Though he has a gruff exterior and swears like a sailor, he was very down- to- Earth, and quite the experienced and esteemed boxer to boot. The man knew what he was talking about so I placed my faith in him and signed up after a free class not long after. Pros: Frank and his band of coaches are all really friendly and knowledgeable on the subject, regardless of your goals in the gym. Some guys go there to train for professional fights. Some guys go in there to learn self- defense. Still others, like myself, go in there for conditioning and a way to de-stress after working all day at a law firm. They do not force you to do anything you don't want and I'm honestly astounded by how much personal attention I receive every day i'm there even though I didn't sign up for private lessons. You will not be pressured to spar if you don't want too. There is no ego in the gym. At anytime, there are multitudes of men and women, ages, and skill/conditioning levels at the gym. You're treated the same, and even the veterans of the gym are willing to help you out (ie, punch correctly, stand correctly, move correctly... you get the idea). Clean! Full size boxing ring! Has a fridge! Hours and days are flexible and convenient. Also has MMA on Tuesdays/ Thursdays Cons: Gym may be a little small for some people, especially when its crowded. Gym is a bit more on the pricy side (though honestly all fighting gyms in the are are similar). Frank was kind enough to lower my monthly fee and I will forever appreciate it, though I wouldn't expect him to do it for everyone. You have been warned. Music. Depending on your tastes you may not enjoy it all the time. Frank's stuff is awesome (plays oldies, classic rock, 90's hip-hop, metal, etc) but a lot of the time people will play their modern hip- hop or EDM, which I cannot stand. Unfortunately, not everyone is a fan of DJ Premier like I am. If music isn't a deal breaker, or you bring your own you should be fine. Overall: I like the place, and you will too. Its been a few months since I started and I already feel ready to spar (especially since I never thought I could).
