I love this place! I don't know why I haven't reviewed it before, as I've been here a bunch of times when in the area. It's a unique eatery that is delightful for everyone. The staff are attentive, nice, patient and knowledgeable. They're open to requests and substitutions whenever possible and not too crazy, so, for me and my palate and diet, I greatly appreciate that. Sometimes, I am afraid to ask, but they made me feel like it wasn't a problem. The prices are more than your average restaurant, but you get what you pay for, because the service, food and portions are of excellent standards and quality. I love that the dishes come with your CHOICE of rice, because, if you know anything about me, eating rice is akin to breathing air for me. I could live on rice alone. It's so good, and their choices here of 4 different options are just mind-blowing and exciting. The healthful me always says the brown rice option though, so, there's that, the Kabil Palaw. I love the cardamom flavor in the rice that complements the sweet raisins and shredded carrots. Deliciously cooked and delicately spiced makes for a wonderful rice dish good enough to eat on its own. The portions for rice as a side dish are so plentiful, I can make multiple meals of it, as long as I accompany with some other food. Probably the coolest part of this restaurant is their homemade Afghan bread which, I believe, is essentially a naan bread that is shaped similar to a slipper. It's richly crafted, with a yeasty full bread developed flavor, and piping hot out of their oven, it's fabulous with a crunchy thin bottom crust but chewy steamy interior. Nice and thin somewhat similar to pita, but so much more exciting. The salad is also a nice accompaniment, and similar to the rice side to your entree, it is an incredibly generous portion. I love the simple salad with cucumbers and tomatoes and the light dressing. Delicious! I could just eat the salad and rice and be full and happy. The entrees, too, if you have room after all of that, are very generously portioned. I opt for the Gulpi cauliflower every time, and I honestly believe they have half a head of cauliflower (or more) for the entree. It is such a very happy belly amount for me. It's so deliciously cooked in a light onion and tomato flavored sauce, that makes the cauliflower so tender and melt in your mouth fabulous. Love it so much. While I could eat it all, because I love it so much, I have to eat only some and save the rest for later. Everyone will find something delicious here- if you like fish, meat, chicken, dumplings, kabobs, etc. So many great choices. Love this place!

I've been coming here with my friends for years! Silk Road feels like stepping into a cozy Afghan grandma's living room, complete with the most charming decor and tunes. The kabobs we ordered were juicy and seasoned to perfection! The service is friendlier than your mom's best friend, and if you haven't tried this place, you're missing out because this Afghan cuisine is done right! Highly recommended for anyone!

We love to eat here whenever we are in town. The food is outstanding and flavorful. Meal includes soup, big salad, huge bread, rice option and your protein. Don't miss the deserts. Service is excellent and for all you get , prices are very reasonable. Do bring your own wine!!!

I've been wanting to order from here for a while now, and I was not disappointed! There are so many different options and combinations of food to order but I don't think you can go wrong with any choice. I tried the korma lamb stew over rice as well as one of the kabob entrees. The flavors and spices were perfect. There is also a bakery on site and next time I come back I will be trying their baklava!

Very nice interior. Went for lunch and they start you off with a good cup of soup. I had the chapli kabob which is made of ground beef and lamb. My wife had the murgh korma, which is chicken and tomato sauce. Both were excellent. They come with salad, bread (similar to naan), and choice of palaw (rice). We both chose the naringe palaw which was wonderful with its saffron, orange peels, almonds and pistachios. We will go back when in the neighborhood.

Been coming Silk Road for many years now and it's still amazing every time we go. The service is incredible, so well timed and accommodating. The ambiance of the restaurants enhances the whole experience. The food is absolutely delicious. I love the lentil soup and salad at the beginning of the meal. I normally get the combination kabobs because I can never decide which meat to get, they're all so good! Also the shir chai and baklava are the only way to end a meal here.

The place is cozy and clean. Service is fine but could be better, specially the hostest!Prices are reasonable. Food is fine, not great as you expect from Afghan cuisine, but it comes with soup, Shirazi salad and bread. First time for me in an Afghani restaurant though I am Persian.

Celebrated a birthday here on a Sunday afternoon. Nobody had eaten yet so appetites were high and we opted for the dinner menu. The waiter was patient and attentive. Started with a lentil soup and salad. Later came the kabobs and various types of rice. Food was tasty. Never had a full Afghanistani meal. Oh and we had delicious dumplings. It was a pleasant experience.

I don't know why it took so long for me to check this place out but I'm so glad I did! I came here for lunch and ordered the Chapli Kabob (Ground beef and lamb patties) with Ladam Palaw (spinach rice) and it was SO delicious. I highly recommend eating it with the white sauce (I took a couple to-go sauce containers of just the white sauce because it was so good). The lunch entree also comes with a starter soup and salad and fresh bread. The fresh bread was also SO hot and delicious. Lastly, I finished off my meal with some chai (with milk) since it is sweet which I also recommend ordering.

Combination 2 - $70 feast is not justifiable . Pretty expenive as compared to what they offer in this patter. Over all food has good taste !

Combination 2 - $70 price for this feast is not justifiable . Pretty expensive in price as what they offer in this plater . Over all food had good taste ! On yelp same dish had price $29.99 , which is wrong. Please update!

The service was friendly, and the food came out extremely quickly. I felt we were being rushed just a tad, but not a huge deal. For appetizers, the falafel ($7?), Mantu ($8?), and bholani cadu ($6?) were ordered. Regarding the falafel, there were five to an order. The falafel was very crispy and had decent flavor. I thought they needed a little more seasoning present. The Mantu were Afghan style dumplings filled with ground beef, onions, and seasonings. It was garnished with homemade mint yogurt and lentil sauce. This was light and soft with tons of flavor. The dumplings were filled appropriately, and the lentil sauce was a pleasant addition. The bholani cadu was a thin fried pastry filled with butternut squash and seasoned with fresh herbs and spices. This was interesting. The wonton was very crispy. The squash filling was sweeter than I thought, but still tasty. I also might add all of the three sauces provided at the tables were good, with the cilantro one being my favorite (cilantro I believe anyway). For my entrée, I had the lamb shank ($38?). It came with a soup, salad, a choice of rice, and naan. The soup appeared to be a lentil soup. It came out hot and was very pleasant. The salad consisted of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. It was prepared nicely as all the pieces were small and a good size portion. The simple dressing was great too. The lamb shank came with a few vegetables. The lamb was extremely tender, but not much meat was on the bone. There needed to be a little more seasoning too as it was lacking. I am just glad the lamb was so tender. I went with the Kabuli rice which had steamed carrots and raisins on top. This was fluffy and flavorful with a ton of it. The naan was okay, a little too crispy. I also tried the lamb chops. They had an unreal cook on them and seasoned well. I also tried the zamarud rice, which was good too. For dessert, the rice pudding ($8?) was ordered. It was creamy and filling. The nice crunch from the pistachios on top was a good addition. Will I go back? I would, yes.

For two millennia, Afghanistan, a landlocked country at the crossroads of Central and South Asia,…read moreboasts a rich and diverse culinary heritage. The country's cuisine reflects its multicultural history, with influences from Persian, Central Asian, Indian, and even Mediterranean culinary traditions. Though the food was served quickly, it wasn't made quickly. Rice, particularly long-grain varieties like basmati, is blanched for a day before it's cooked. Meats are marinated in carefully prepared concoctions for hours to ensure tenderness. Lamb shanks are stewed for hours each day. Never had Afghan food? You're not alone. There are only a handful of Afghan restaurants in NJ. Located at the Westfield Plaza off of South Avenue E, some of my colleagues decided on takeout as first-timers for lunch, which came recommended as the food tastes and feels like home from this family-owned and -run establishment. We called the order in for their family platter consisting of Ground Chicken, Lamb and Beef Kababs, Garden Salad, Brown Rice, Fresh Naan Bread, and a side of Potatoes with a red sauce and yogurt. Upon arrival at Famous Kabab Cuisine, my colleague and I were greeted by the owner, Ahmed, who has more than 25 years of experience in making fresh bread and kabob, and informed us of a 5-minute wait. The food remained hot back into the office, would feed 5, and have some for leftovers. The kebabs (ground chicken, beef, and lamb) were well seasoned, tasted delicious, and paired beautifully with the brown rice. Top that bread or kebab with the trio of sauces. A white yogurt sauce with dill is very reminiscent of tzatziki sauce, a vinegary green sauce with cilantro and pureed walnuts, and, for those who do want the heat, a red habanero sauce that should have come with a warning. Overall, one can tell the food was made fresh with quality ingredients. It is not cheap, but one gets decent portions, which we can recommend.

I got two meals out of mine. I got the gyro platter and it probably was one of the tastiest meals I've had in a long time. I thought the chicken was seasoned and flavorful. But by far, the best part was the white sauce. I would pair it with the mango lassi and it was such a great explosion of flavors - both savory and sweet. I will say they ask whether you're okay with onions and raisins in your platter. I liked them but I know raisins might not be what most people prefer to add to their rice. Service was fast. We were told it would take 30-35 minutes, which is fine for cooked to order food. It really wasn't very busy, but the order took 50 minutes. The order was sitting on their counter ready to go, but it appeared they were backed up with making the bread. Once the bread came out, they bagged it up and we were ready to go. They almost forgot to give us the side salad, but they remembered before we left. Now for the food... - The bread that we waited for- was doughy and undercooked. It had burnt pieces stuck to it and they were not shaped as nicely as their usual bread. - The hummus side that we ordered, which was almost $8, was a half filled half pint container (very small amount) of what appeared more like a sauce rather than the thick hummus we are accustomed t. I wouldn't order this again. - The salad was watery...they need to drain the water better - The rice was cold - I think it was sitting out too long - Now for the main event - the meats - we enjoyed the flavor. This saved our dinner, we did enjoy the meats. We called them about the bread and they were apologetic, and told us we can stop by for bread next time we are there. As this is one of my favorite restaurants, I want to give them an opportunity to do better next time! The afghan bread and their rice have alway been my favorite part of their meals! I think it was an off night for them, I'd definitely give them a chance again in the future.
