We have been to the camps before, but this year it was beyond disappointing. Our daughter is enrolled in the 2-week camp: 7/26 - 8/6 and we have to tell you how disappointing this week has been. First of all, the counsellors are great and Grey really liked them - we have no complaints there. We want to bring to your attention just how the kids spent the week: Day 1: they went canoeing in a lake where the water is so filthy and toxic that the kids were told they could not get in the water at all and to make sure the water didn't go near their mouths as they would get extremely sick. Day 2: they went on a bike ride and were taken to a trail that was completely exposed and offered no shade. Ultimately, they could only ride for 30+ minutes before they had to call it quits as the kids were overheating. When the 100+ degree weather is taken into consideration, this seems like a ridiculous activity and a poor choice of bike path. Apparently they spend most of the day sitting under a tree to escape the heat. Day 3: a hike was planned but apparently one of the kids forgot their medication so once at their destination, they all sat around and waited over an hour for the child's mother to arrive with the medication. Once that was over they "hiked" for literally 20 minutes before loading up and driving back. Day 4: this was another water day an equally filthy lake. Even though the temperature was over 100 degrees, they couldn't jump in the lake. Day 5: this was the only day our daughter enjoyed because they finally went to a lake where they could jump in the water. When one takes into account the $100/day price tag we pay for your camp to show our children the kind of summertime outdoor adventures we as parents would have enjoyed taking them on ourselves, it seems as though all we paid for in the end was an elaborate daycare.

It took me a little time to process what happened this past Sunday before writing this review…read more I want to start by saying Tanner, the young man who worked our party, absolutely made the day. He was incredibly helpful with the kids, repeatedly apologized for everything happening (even though none of it was his fault), and remained kind, attentive, and professional the entire time. Tanner is the ONLY reason we managed to have any sort of birthday party at all. We booked the Ultimate Birthday Party package for my son's 7th birthday from 2-4 PM and also added the pizza and drinks package. The day before, I called to confirm everything, including our food order: 2 cheese pizzas, 2 pepperoni pizzas, Sprite, and lemonade for 12 kids. I arrived around 1:35 PM expecting a busy Sunday crowd. When I checked in, I was immediately told our party room would not be available until 3:15 PM -- despite our party being scheduled from 2-4 PM. That meant we would only have the room for the last 45 minutes. I was shocked. The employee at the front desk was kind and explained the manager had overbooked parties. Meanwhile, I was left standing in a packed lobby with decorations, cake, plates, and favor bags with nowhere to set anything up. I eventually asked to speak with the manager. After waiting about 15 minutes, he came over with absolutely no sense of urgency. He was dismissive, condescending, and repeatedly told me the room timing was listed in the "fine print" of the emails. Maybe technically it was, but it's honestly ridiculous to advertise birthday parties without guaranteeing space for the actual party. After offering no real solution, he simply walked away. As guests arrived, Tanner took the kids onto the obstacle course while I grabbed a couple of lobby tables to hold gifts and belongings. Thankfully, because of Tanner, the kids still had fun and had no idea what was happening behind the scenes. We finally got access to the party room around 3:30 PM, leaving only 30 minutes in our reservation, and there was still no pizza. Tanner helped us rush decorations up while the kids were already hungry and thirsty. When I asked about the pizzas, Tanner checked with the manager and came back saying they claimed I never ordered them. That was completely false. I would never host a party for 12 children without food. Tanner apologized again and later informed me they had "just ordered" the pizzas -- at 3:45 PM, with the party ending at 4. The kids were hungry, drinks were running low, and there was still no food. I asked for more time in the room, and once again Tanner had to speak with the manager himself. We were eventually allowed to stay until 4:30 PM and the pizzas were comped. Unfortunately, by then most parents were already preparing to leave because the party was supposed to end at 4. I rushed to cut the cake so the kids could at least sing Happy Birthday and eat something. The pizzas finally arrived at 4:10 PM when only three kids remained. To their credit, they comped the pizzas and gave us free gym-time coupons. I appreciate that gesture, but after the way the manager handled everything, I will never return. I'm honestly shocked I still paid $329 for this experience. The reason I'm writing this review is to warn other parents. Birthday parties are expensive, and your hard-earned money should go to a business that values its customers and knows how to properly manage events. During the entire three hours we were there, the manager never once apologized. The only staff members who showed professionalism or empathy were the younger employees -- especially Tanner. They are lucky to have him. As a business owner myself, I can confidently say the current manager will drive this business into the ground. He was dismissive, incompetent, condescending, and rude from start to finish. Save yourself the stress and book your child's birthday somewhere else.

My daughter went to an Avid camp for the second year in a row this past summer and I think she…read moreliked it even more than the year before! Last year, at 5 years old, she attended the cycling camp. She learned some basics and loved the counselors, who were so wonderful - encouraging, patient and upbeat. This year, she attended the Explorer Camp - canoe, kayak, cycling and hiking. Every day when we picked her up, she talked glowingly about the fun they had doing the activity of the day and how much she wanted to do more. Her cycling is now solid and we are taking family rides as much as possible - one of my favorite mommy-moments is when we are all together on bikes, enjoying the outdoors and she is on her own bike. She absolutely loves it. Both years, my husband and I have been impressed with the organization of the camp - the friendly, happy counselors and how happy our kiddo is when we pick her up. She is learning about loving the outdoors in a fun, safe and encouraging environment with great people showing her the way. How great is that?!?

Complete chaos any time I dropped off or picked up. I saw one councilor alone with clearly more than 40 kids by themselves. The food pictures my nephew sent were terrible. kids were in and out without any kind of supervision. I could not be more disappointed in a camp. It did not feel safe to send my nephew here for Summer camp after a horrible spring break camp experience.

AND our camp counselors were teenagers who were scaring us by telling scary stories. There was a 3rd grader in our class who totally freaked out, when one counselor was telling us about how he almost died in a car crash. Also, the performance that we were supposed to do was supposedly in front of parents at the school. So, we got very exciting things, costumes, dry ice for a witch's cauldron, a princess tower. It was fun, but also a bit pricey, we later found out that we had to perform in front of them on ZOOM. Which, half of the parents couldn't even make it!!! Not the greatest camp, but was still good about the topic of improv. :(
