Our cashier was very friendly and appreciated our humor and debate on whether to have a "decaffeinated" cappuccino or not. I convince my wife to order one and she loved loved loved it! Artis opened on December 7, 2013 and is located on the northern end of the Fourth Street Shops (a.k.a. Fourth Street Berkeley). This is a fairly spacious cafe with an industrial/warehouse, minimalist look. During my afternoon visit, it was busy inside and out on the covered patio. Lots of people on their laptops. Artis roasts their own coffee. Service was fine. I got a side eye from the cashier/barista when I asked where the water station was (it was my first time and I was unfamiliar with this place), but they were nice and polite otherwise. Founded originally in San Francisco in 2009, this is just Sightglass' fourth location the others are in SF and LA. I just happened to be driving by, and this big parking space opened up right in front of the store, so I ran in to grab their brew of the day - their "Grizzly Peak" brew unique to this store. My hot little cup was smooth and aromatic, even on the 2nd day when I finished it off at home! I also ordered their blueberry muffin which was moist and yummy and not overly sweet. Just right. Turns out that I came here on the 2nd day of business, but service was already super smooth and friendly! Short wait.. just get in the queue on the right side of the counter. Next time, I look forward to trying out their iced lattes. The Brown Butter Miso Latte looked awesome! I kinda wish I ordered that first, but now I have an excellent reason to return! USELESS TRIVIA #1: For non-locals, the name of the "Grizzly Peak" brew comes from the name of one of the summits of the Berkeley Hills just to the east. It is also the name of Grizzly Peak Boulevard way up there. Yes, there used to be Grizzly Bears in the hills here back in the 1800s! USELESS TRIVIA #2: Before this location became a huge student dorm building with Sightglass, Palmetto Foods and Shake Shack going in on the ground floor, this was the former location of a big paint store and the service garage for UCB's maintenance vehicle fleet.
