I've been to Sight MD on Middle Country Road in Smithtown several times, and unfortunately the experience has been consistently frustrating due to the wait times. The waits are beyond excessive and, frankly, ridiculous. No matter the appointment time, you should expect to sit for a long stretch before being seen. What's especially frustrating is that they are very efficient when it comes to collecting your copay immediately upon arrival, yet there is no comparable urgency when it comes to respecting the patient's time afterward. After checking in and paying, you're left waiting--sometimes moving from room to room--without any clear communication or explanation. I'm not commenting on the doctors' medical competence, as I expect physicians to be knowledgeable and capable in their field, and in that regard there were no major issues. Personality-wise, the providers were fine and professional enough. That said, patient experience is more than just clinical skill. Time management and respect for scheduled appointments matter, and this office consistently falls short in that area. read more

Booked an appointment because my insurance company referred them. I called to make an appointment and they took all my information including my insurance plan number etc. Wait over a week for my appointment and drive 30 minutes to get there. When I get there and check in the receptionist tells me they don't take my insurance! Well then why did you even ask me for my insurance information when I booked the appointment!?! Unfortunately Dr. Martin deserves 5 stars for his amazing work and professionalism. However, the company Sight MD is to be avoided at all costs. Get your lasik elsewhere. The headaches with financing and the obvious billing fraud that goes on there is ridiculous. I am on month three of trying to have "mistakenly billed" (stolen) money returned. They will avoid any means to help a customer once they believe work is done. Beware of follow-up appointments.... They say it's included in the absurd upfront cost of the procedure but I was ripped off half a grand for their failure to recognize my existing patient status. I had a conversation with your billing Dept yesterday which upset me very much. I was calling about a "No Show" bill I had received which was incorrect. I had an appointment for 11/1 which I called and cancelled on 1029 - 3 days before the appointment. I spoke with someone named Carl who told me that the charge was because I did not show up. When I tried to explain to him that I had called 3 days earlier to cancel, we cut me off by saying "excuse me Ma'am, I am talking - you can speak when I am through. I could not believe he said that, but I waited. When he finished, I explained that I had indeed cancelled the appointment 3 days before. He told me that they sent out the bill as a COURTESY, and I did not need to pay it. I have never heard of anything so stupid. No wonder this practice and Sight MD as a total, received and "F" rating on the Better Business Bureau website. Mainly they fail to respond to any complaints filed against them- they are not an accredited business. My mother in law- 93 years old had 4 appts (preparation and surgery for 2 cataract removals). She had 4 appts and waited 12 hours. The day of one of her surgeries she waiting 3 + hours before they put her on a gurney with 7 other people waiting on Gurneys--like a factory. While she sat in the waiting room the "nurse" took a black magic marker and wrote an "R" above her right eye. Most of the patients in that waiting room were elderly - medicaid patients and sadly.... treated with ZERO respect and dignity. The building was run down, dirty-- chipped paint on everywhere, disgusting. When she checked in there were 7 receptionists in a tiny area and talking away to one another and barely helping the people in need. Sight MD is owned by a private equity group called Chicago Pacific Founders. This is a money play-- the doctors who are part of this group are jamming in patients for volume and the private equity group will sell and all of the docs will get their cut. I've had terrible eye allergies for the past year and decided to go to an Ophthalmologist to get to the bottom of my eye issues. The staff was very professional and knowledgeable. Most importantly, Dr. Makesh Kumar did a thorough exam, listened to my concerns and answered my questions with much patience. I highly recommend using SightMD. The office is clean and in a convenient location. Parking lot gets full so patience to find a spot was the only downside. read more

Be careful going to this office. Watch your wallet! I had cataract surgery done by Dr. Martin. His surgical coordinator Stephanie Badalato gave me misleading information about the out of pocket cost for the procedure. I ended up getting a bill for $1,200 more than what I was told. I contacted the office after the procedure was done. I asked them why I am receiving a bill for $1,200 when they told me, after checking my insurance, it would be covered by my insurance. I had cataract surgery with Dr. Mauro about 2 years ago. The surgery itself went fine. My gripe is more with the process of how they treat patients. This location is like a factory. You're in one waiting room for about 20 minutes and then you speak to one of the many eye techs or assistance whatever they are and then you're put in another waiting room for 20 minutes. When you meet with the doctor you actually only spend a few minutes with him. My options for what type of lenses I should get whenever thoroughly discussed with me. Dr. Morrow is a decent surgeon, but he's far from the best. I am having some complications with my left eye that was operated on. So be wary of all the good reviews this place has. read more

This is my 1st ever review - I felt it necessary due to how poorly this practice is run. My entire family; including myself are health care professionals. There is absolutely NO sense of humanity/emphathy from the staff at this factory! Right from my 1st contact with office all continued to go on a downward trend. I was told to be there no later than 3:45pm as MD leaves at 4:30. I left work early and rushed there - only to sit for 2hrs in waiting area. 2 patients came in after me with same time for appts and with same MD??? I finally got called to have 1st of many in and out of waiting area moments. Every staff member is functioning like robots - no smiles, no introductions, etc. It is so so sad to witness what certain businesses in healthcare have become. I and my family have always treated patients like they are our mother, father, etc. This practice does nothing but seek volume and income from naive patients. The scheduler at the end - 3.5 hrs later was "cold, rude, condescending and yes a "robot. I regret not walking out right from the start! Needless to say I reached out to an ophthalmologist highly recommended from co-workers and was treated like 'Family" - with respect and empathy. I began going to sight md of smithtown in 2023 after my optometrist evaluated me and wrote GLAUCOMA SUSPECT. I was very nervous seeing that. You think blindness possibly so I set up a consultation with Dr Zackary Davis, a specialist. Visual field test, examination of cornea and eye pressures were done. High pressures led to eye drops daily. Follow ups began, every three months. When a later visit showed no major improvements, Dr Davis explained options I may consider. The SLT procedure seemed the least evasive, reading reviews of those who had it done and what it exactly entailed, I agree to that. His office also gave me a print out about SLT and insurance coverage which is usually 100%, which it is for me, no matter how often performed. November of last year, SLT was done in their office in smithtown, same place. Numbing drops put in before n then few minutes later, Davis begins. It's done in a minute, I was shocked. One eye one week and then other eye the following week. I was going to say the next eye but then I would be seen as a freak lol. Just two eyes. Well, I wear glasses so four eyes. Anywho last week, I went for my three month follow up, visual fields test done again, pressures checked. He said all was perfect. I will continue the drops which his office renewed the Rx at my pharmacy. 10 out of 10. Anyone in a similar path as mine, please see Dr Zackary Davis, call for an appointment and you will never look back. OK, you will keep looking back, that's really what it is all about. We waited few months to see Dr. Jeffrey Martin, Appointment scheduled March 6th at 4:15 PM. We waited more than two hours + just to see the doctor for a consultation for cataract surgery. They charged us as soon as you walk in. They called us inside, Waited some more. An elderly lady was getting impatient. started talking about what time we all had an appointment. We found out the front desk was scheduling patients every five minutes. They were texting us several times not to be late, not to miss the appointment , if we do they will charge us additional. As I was waiting with my Significant other, feel like I was waiting at the Medicaid office. After all that, the girl finally called us in to see the doctor it was literally 5 to 10 minutes or less. Then we talked about Right eye surgery. Since we are self pay pt. Waiting for the third time in 4 different waiting rooms. Finally girl named Jennifer about to schedule the surgery, Scheduling us for both eyes surgery two weeks apart.(Dr. failed to mention that) Then she start about COVID-19 test. First time being seen in this office for a routine eye exam. The waiting room was packed and I was kept waiting about 20 minutes. The exam itself wasn't very thorough and the doctor didn't inquire about any vision issues I may have been having since my last exam. The prescription I received had complete details for one eye, but not for the other which wasn't much help when ordering reading glasses online. I have excellent coverage and paid my co-pay at the visit, however I was hit with a $50 bill in the mail for a procedure my NYSHIP insurance didn't cover, which is concerning as it was just a routine exam. I opted to have a second exam at another provider. I will not be returning to this practice. read more

The front line staff is the worst I've ever experienced. I've had several interactions with a variety of staff members and they are all rude and inexperienced. They put you on hold and never come back. They transfer you to another extension that just rings forever. When you are fortunate to get someone, it's like a comedy skit. These people are morons. And the visits with Dr Baharastini were like I was bothering him just to be there. Guess that's why his staff sucks too. I felt rushed, tense, and not welcomed. Got PRK done here with Dr. Zweibel (now retired) back in early 2021. He was great and my vision improved significantly. Overall, staff and doctors are all very nice. Why I can only give 3 stars is because the wait and time spent just sitting around is absurd. The first few appointments were not too bad because lasik/prk patients are top priority. But, now for my 1 year follow up I've been sitting in the waiting room for over an hour, have yet to see a doctor and Im sure when I do, i'll be in an out in 5 mins. They move patients from 1 waiting room to another to create the illusion of the appt moving along too. It's not that busy in the office and from experience, I know it's because they double and triple book doctors so they could have 3 patients all slotted for the same time with 1 doctor. For a 1 yr post op, I'd expect to be out of here within maybe 30-45 mins, but here I am 75 mins later and still haven't seen the doctor. Update: saw the dr for 2 mins, had to dilate me (which would've been nice if they did this while i was waiting the 1+ hour in the waiting room), and now I am waiting AGAIN to let the dr see my dilated eyes. Update 2: went in to see dr for dilated check. dr forgot he dilated me and would have left the room wo looking at my eyes if i didn't say something. then looked at my eyes (been getting floaters) and proceeded to give me the medical advice of covering each eye in the morning to make sure i'm not blind in one eye. 2 hour appt for that. thanks doc. read more

Very disappointed with Sight MD. I saw a PA four days ago. My prescription never went to my pharmacy, I called the emergency number and they couldn't help. After four days it went to the wrong pharmacy, so my pharmacy couldn't fill it. It was extremely frustrating to wait on something necessary for my eye. WARNING - Worst medical practice I have ever experienced. I am a 57 year old male and I normally do not right reviews but over the last 45 days they have sent me to 4 different doctors in their practice and they are all rude and spend about 3 minutes with you otherwise they have you with young (under 30) technicians. It became clear that they send you to each other to keep billing more than anything else not really concerned with care. I have great medical insurance, so the money was not an issue to me, but I would consider them a fraud in the way they make recommendations. If it was up to them I was going to have laser surgery and Flourescein Angiography. I then went for a second opinion at another doctor through NYU, and they told me I do not need laser surgery or a Flourescein Angiography. The NYU was not surprised when I shared my experience with them, as he sees many patients who start at SightMD. I will be reporting them to my insurance company and NYS Fraud Department because I think they are an insurance billing machine with care their secondary focus. I will end by saying Dr. Matt Karl might be the most arrogant doctor I ever met. read more

I got my Lasik surgery done at SightMD and wow. I live in Brooklyn so the office is not exactly close. It takes 1.5 hours each way to drive to and from the office but Dr John Mauro is the best (and his staff is great too!) so despite having to be in a vehicle 3 hours a day for the pre-op, op, and post-op appts it was well worth the travel. The surgery itself was quick (~10 min) and Dr Mauro vocalized what was being done at each step which helped calm my nerves. It was over before I knew it and I was off home. Everything was as Dr Mauro explained it would be and I did not experience any side effects. I highly recommend Dr Mauro to anyone looking into Lasik surgery. read more

I am so disappointed in my experience yesterday and today at the Smithtown Sightmd. I specifically asked for 2 separate prescriptions, one for my reading glasses and one for my distance, while I was being examined. I have always in the past received my prescriptions this way in the past. Dr. Mauro said he was giving me a progressive prescription and I asked him not to because they make me sick, I asked again to please give me reading and distance prescriptions. My eyes were dilated, so I could not read what I was handed when I left. When I was able to see that I did not get what I asked for, I called the office. I was told that the prescription I was given had both on it. I explained it did not, it was not what I had asked. The technician argued with me that I did not need another prescription. I called again, spoke to another person and told them that I had asked to have 2 separate prescriptions, etc.....I ended up hanging up on the 3rd person because he was an obnoxious idiot who would not listen to what I was asking. On my 4th call, a lovely woman named Maria understood what I was asking for and said she would talk to someone and have it done for me. I waited to for the call to pick it my prescription because it was ready, but did not receive this call. I called at 9:15 Saturday morning and no one answered the phone in the Smithtown location. I waited and called at 11 am only to find out it was not done for me. I do not understand what their problem was because the other doctor in that office has done it for me this way for years. Dr. Mauro would not be in again until Monday. So 3 days later and no guarantee that I will not have to deal with the same garbage. This is only my second time leaving a bad review. I truly do not understand if I am paying for this visit, why I cannot get what I want. Instead of calling back on Monday, I will be calling my insurance company and asking if there is recourse for me. Should be zero stars. Upon arriving for my appointment at SightMD which it took four months to get I was told my physician no longer works there and I would need to reschedule. This was even more shocking as I had received three separate mobile texts reminding me of my appointment days before. The office said they would fit me in and after two hours I had one of the techs do a vision test for eyeglass prescription. After an additional hour I saw the on duty physician and he performed an eye exam. I received my eyeglass prescription upon leaving and went directly to Costco to fill the prescription. The clerk immediately pointed out that the new prescription was dramatically different from last year and that they could not believe I was able to see with my current glasses. They recommended verifying prescription prior to ordering glasses. The clerk said that they would normally call to verify but that Sight-Md never answers the phone. I immediately went back to SightMD office and they had mistakenly transposed the numbers on the prescription and gave me a new prescription. I returned to Costco and again the clerk believed the perscription was incorrect but ordered my glasses. Of course my glasses arrived and were totally out of focus. I requested from SightMD another eye exam just for eyeglass prescription and did not need to see a doctor again. Upon arrival I was given an exam and the Technician advised it was very close to my prescription from the previous year. The office staff said I had to see the Doctor again. Doctor did not agree with technician and argument ensued between them. He did not exam me. The office gave me the incorrect prescription over the one that the Technician performed. Totally frustrated I went to another business and received a correct prescription and thankfully Costco filled the order without charge. Of course, SightMD billed Medicare and my Insurance for both visits as well as my copay for the first visit. STAY AWAY FROM SIGHTMD! read more

I had another really disappointing visit last week at Sight MD. This was my second time there and I waited 2 hours for a less than 2 minute conversation with Dr. Marcantonio. Not only was I greeted with " I have another eye emergency next door, so what's up?" but was also extremely rushed. If the wait time was not so poor and the doctor seemed like he actually cared about my concerns, this would have been a much more positive experience. However, I was rushed out having many more questions and concerns, and was not given the proper attention. I paid a $25 co-pay to be told that my 4-month long eye issue "needs to run it's course" and "take over the counter eye drops" A waste of 2 hours on my Saturday afternoon. Although I've been going to this practice for over 60 years since Dr Sid Martin was located on Maple Ave, what I experienced today is mindboggling. Let me state upfront, I have NO ISSUE with the Dr. Kumar. He is excellent, knowledgable and takes his time to inform and answer all questions. If it weren't for him, I dont think I'd go back after the UNBELIEVABLE behavior and treatment of the reception area. First of all, the 4 women in the reception desk were having a loud and quite vivid discussion about the use of tampons. YES- tampons !!!! The discussion, how to insert, mishaps with and the use of these feminine hygiene products was quite descriptive and WAY TOO inappropriate for me to descirbe the entire conversation in this forum AND for the entire waiting room to hear, which everyone did hear !! Second, there was a man with an appointment with my same doctor that was talking to me in the waiting area and told me when his appointment was which it was AFTER mine. He told the desk he had to get back to work so they took him BEFORE me. I asked why and two of the receptionists walked away and began to whisper to each other. SERIOUSLY !!
