Their pricing was similar to the competitors, but what set them apart was that they offered unlimited pier depth per section. Other companies had limits--for example, up to 20 feet, then an additional charge per foot after that. I'm glad I went with Groundworks because several of my piers ended up going 90 feet deep across 16 sections. With another company, that could have cost me significantly more. I also had their gutter guard system installed (similar to a French drain, though they claim it's better), along with a vapor barrier and mold treatment. I will say, if you have a serious mold issue, I'd recommend hiring a dedicated mold remediation company instead. I did have an issue with the mold spray, but after calling a couple of times, I was able to speak with a manager who surprisingly took my concerns seriously and resolved the issue. The salesman who came to my house, Randy S., was excellent--very thorough and knowledgeable. He always answered my calls and would text be back in a reasonable timeframe. One thing I didn't like was the same-day discount tactic. They present you with a price, then offer 10% off (or whatever discount they choose) if you sign that day. It puts pressure on you to make a major decision on the spot, which is difficult when you're spending over $50,000. There is a three-day cancellation window, but some people may see the discount as more of a sales tactic than a real benefit. I also want to mention the foreman on the job, Jose G. He was great--he answered all of my questions and even let me watch and learn a little while they were working. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience. Their warranty is transferable, which is a nice bonus, and hopefully I won't have any more issues going forward.

He came out and took a look at let me know that my particular situation didn't require his services, but he did let me know exactly what needed to be done to solve the problem. I don't know anything about this sort of stuff so he could have easily taken advantage of my ignorance. If I ever do have another problem, Mike will be my first call, and I would recommend him to anyone else who asks.

Then he recommended a plumber (Mazzone) that would fix one facet of the whole issue. After the owner of the plumbing company came out and fixed what he needed to quickly and at a very reasonable price the worker from Arid came out to view the final phase of my problem. Patrick (the owner) gave me an appointment for his workers to install a sump pump. The first pictures are of the check valve portion of the project. The second picture is an extension installed by Mazzone to my check valve two feet below my basement floor. The third set of pictures are from the completed job by Arid. The workers from Arid were very polite and worked quickly and very effectively with a great deal of carefulness for my home and living spaces. I completely recommend both these companies for any waterproofing projects you may find that you need.

Did you know that in the 50's plastic was all the craze and that funny jade green, pink or baby blue tile in your bathroom might be plastic? Did you know that the backer to that pink bathroom tile is uneven not because the wall is sagging but because they used concrete to grout it. I didn't know. Chances are my original "contractor" didn't know because they all sub-contract to general contractors who do all of the work. I met Melvin Mejia, the owner of this place originally when I was setting up my house for sale. I had the dark dingy basement completely redone via Scaldino Basement Solutions a AAA rated company. Turns out that Mel was the licensed general contractor on these projects and Scaldino was really a basement waterproofing specialist. In any regards the basement turned out beautiful and I've used the same general contractor and electrician to redo my bathroom and kitchen in my new old home which are complete gut jobs. Mel, the owner is a straight shooter, bilingual and does excellent work. He really knows the ins and outs of old homes too as my first home was built in 1931 and my second home was built in 1771 by one of the founding families of Parsippany. I trust that he would do the same great job for you. To date it has all started with a discussion of the project, finishing options, timeline for permit, rough inspection, finish of project and final town inspection. Mel walks us through the process and gives his best good faith estimate as to any pitfalls that might happen with our old homes. So far so good and we've been able to stay on budget through two home renovations. We plan on using Mel to do our bathrooms next.
