We took the Brewery Tour and Tasting which was 60 minutes long. Our tour guide, Jack, took us through a brief history of the company and talked us through the process of making beer. I would consider this more of a straightforward educational tour, rather than one that gives you a dad joke per minute (this could be a pro or a con depending on who you are). I thought one of the most interesting parts was stepping into the refrigerated hop storage area and being able to hold a hop cone and smell everything. Visiting Sierra Nevada Brewing's original facility in Chico has been on my brewery bucket list for many years. It was at the same time unexpected and also exactly as I had imagined. The brewery is outside of downtown on a huge campus. Public free parking is covered and nearby, you can see the employee entrance and all the brewery buildings beyond. The restaurant & bar entrance is closest to the parking (see separate review), but there's so much more to see on your visit. For beer fans, the highlight will probably be the taproom and merchandise shop in the farther building. It definitely felt like the employee bar, with many clearly finishing shifts for a beer before heading home. It's a small bar, but has an amazing tap selection including some not available to try anywhere else. They have small tables too, which overlooks like the tour entrance area and merchandise store. It's huge and there's a ton of swag. You can also get all their fresh cases and special bottled selections to go, again including some not available elsewhere. Prices are reasonable and it's definitely worth a stop! If you want to do a tour, they offer many different ones including ones with special tastings but they should be booked ahead of time. read more

Took the tour today and Gabby was fantastic! She fully embraced the 'Willy Wonka' wonderment of the whole experience and made it truly memorable. We signed up for their Tuesday afternoon brewery tour and Gabby (sp?) was our guide. It started in the refrigerated hops room, which was super cold and super interesting. Then we moved in to see the mashton, then saw where the hops are mixed in. The tour was in actual rooms being used in the brewing process. We also got to see where the yeast was added and took a walk to the distribution facility and got to see the bottling and canning lines. It was fascinating to hear about the history, the process and the environmental aspects of the business. The basic tour was very impressive and for a great price ($13.50). So I was working as a contractor for Cal Fire on the Park fire north of Chico. After a thirteen hour day in the 100° heat I drive my water tender back to the hotel. At check in I ask if they have any beer, she said Sierra Nevada has a freezing cold bucket of beers with five beers and two logo glasses and a Sierra Nevada bucket. A friend took us out to a concert at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Event Center. Tickets can be purchased online for upcoming events. It's a large spaciousness event room that's combined with table seating and a center floor for dancing and a standing audience. They offered specialty beers, soda, tea and a selection of wines. We came for bands originally from East LA, Thee Sinseers and a group called, The Altons. It was a phenomenal experience and the atmosphere was high vibing for all ages. This is about as good as it gets. I've tried several things on the menu and all were superb. I love the garlic butter salmon. It was cooked perfectly the three or four times I've had it. The Chicken Saltimbocca was also very good as is it the salads. Creme Brulee was also awesome. There are numerous beers on tap, and look forward to the Peachy little hazy thing. It is seasonal, so if you see it get it. I almost forgot the pretzel. It comes with a Torpedo IPA white cheddar beer cheese dip that is to die for. No plans on a fall Saturday. So we drove out to SNB. Elise served us and was very friendly knowledgeable and recommended a tasty beer flight full of my favorite hazy beers. We also ordered the Ahi Nachos. The waitress quickly brought them to our table. The cute couple behind us almost tackled us for them because they were piled high lol. They promised to get them on their next visit. The nachoes were so good. We didn't care for the pickled cucumber but oh well we just layed them aside. Every thing else was loaded with goodness. Even though the restaurant was full and lively with families we chose it sit outside due to the lovely fall weather and nice outdoor patio seating. One small draw back (I love dogs but....) I had to face one large dog snapping at flies as I tried to enjoy my ahi nachoes. The dog owner tried but perhaps her dog could have been chillin comfy by her side and the wall ijs. read more

Steve and I hoped into Sierra Nevada Brewing again. We have had this brewery before... and with it being distributed widely it's hard not to notice. The latest beer that we had up to this point from Sierra Nevada is the Big Little Thing IPA. We haven't had this beer before and it was good. Flavor features with this IPA are hoppiness, strong, smooth, fruity and earthy. I especially liked the smoothness with this beer as more than enough IPA'S don't come off as smooth in their flavor profiles and it's something I've really grown to be fond of with beers. read more

Perfect example of no F's given. I ordered takeout food from here on 01.13.26. I ordered "The Philly" and a side of fries at the bar. I paid and the bartender tells me to wait in the general area. OK. So I sit at a table about five feet from the bar. I'm not drinking, just waiting so I can get my food and go. I wait. And I wait. Some people are walking out with to-go bags of food. I wait. The bar tender can see me. It's busy but not overwhelmingly so. I get tired of waiting and I see a bag at the place where they put the food out to serve. I got up to check it but it's for a Door Dasher. A waitress asks if I'm waiting for food and I say "Yes" and she tells me to go to the bar. I go to the end of the bar and the bartender sees me and brings my food which has been sitting near his register for awhile. It's warm to the touch. I'm irritated but I let it go and head back to the hotel with my food. I open the box with my food in it and both the sandwich and the fries are barely warm. I started eating the sandwich but the French roll has been microwaved and it has the consistency of cardboard. The inside isn't too bad except for the jalapeno pepper stem. It would have been a lot better if it was warmer. I ate a few fries and almost none of the bread. The bartender didn't give an F and the cook didn't give an F. But I did. I give both of them F. Try harder because I know you can do better than this. How would YOU feel if I served that to you? read more

We were visiting the Chico area for a wine tasting event in Vina and decided to take the Sierra Nevada brewery tour. We called and they were able to get us in the same day. It was interesting and my wife, who is generally not a beer drinker, found a couple she liked during the tasting. I can literally not hype this tour up enough. I mean it doesn't make me want to get "SIERRA NEVADA" across my forehead but it's as close as I can reasonably get. The tours are so fun and engaging. It's an hour of information and beer. I've never had a bad tour guide and our latest tour with Emily was super fun! Every tour guide is knowledgeable, friendly and fun. It is a functional factory so you have to remember to wear close toed shoes and get ready to walk at least for 1/2 the time. It can be a little warm but really, it's just so fun. I recommend dinner in the taproom next door after; it's the perfect Chico activity. read more

We did a 45-minute tour on the history of the company, as well as learning about their specific brewing process. Very informative and fun - it was great learning about all the steps Sierra Nevada Brewing is taking to be more sustainable and make less of an environmental impact. I've been to many of the most interesting breweries in the world and this by far is akin to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory and the best. If you're really into craft beer or a brewer, the "Beyond the Pale" tour on Friday's will let you see inside actual production. If it's under 105 degrees, you can see the packaging operation. Getting to try beer out of the cold crash tanks is about as cool as it gets. You get plenty of beers, so have a meal before and then eat at the restaurant and taproom later. That's a fine strategy. Even if you do a normal daily tour which is more restricted, you can still see the operation up close and Ken's beautiful copper kettles from an observation deck. Getting to stand (safely of course) near the western copper kettle with 8,000 gallons of ale nearing knockout was a special experience many of us will frankly never get to experience. The funnest part of the tour is in the end and has nothing to do with brewing, but I won't spoil the surprise. You can also just go to the gift shop, which has a small bar with the same selections as the main taproom, but much quieter. Playing shuffleboard upstairs makes you feel like you're back in undergrad and if you spot Bigfoot walking around, please remember not to feed him. Ken bought Bigfoot, presumably as tribute to their barleywine. So, even if you're just stopping off, you can visit the gift shop and still get beer at the bar, or to go in the coolers where they also have cask conditioned varieties. They have beers they may not release for the public on a regular basis you can drink there as well and they're excellent. The food is excellent and many locals come here for that alone. They also have seltzers and hard alcohol for non beer drinkers and excellent food and service. The beer cheese used on the pretzel is the only I've ever liked in my life. They have their cadre of three mustards on the tables. They have covered outdoor dining as well. They can't allow dogs because of food safety laws being a production facility, so it's not that they don't want dogs or young people, it's just not safe or legally allowed. You get to walk with the Oompa-Loompa's in the chocolate factory, so I wish people who've left bad reviews would understand that. They're hands are tied. They are bike friendly and have the coolest bike racks you'll ever see. Most people who work here interact like family and it's family owned with no cronyism; everyone works from the beginning-up and many stay their entire careers it'd seem. During the pandemic they had all the restaurant and taproom workers working in canning and sanitation, so they have a very broad knowledge and love for the brewing process. The brewery uses it's own solar power grid, water system and is one of few places in the world capturing their co2 and re-using it, so they actually give back to the power grid in Chico, helping the community. They brew 24 hours a day during the week in three shifts and still have incredible demand. This was special for me because I've been drinking Sierra Nevada since 1998 and Ken has always been a hero for everything he's built and his amazing teams and facilities and with nothing. They built a second brewery in North Carolina, as they ship their beer cold, which is quite rare. They have tours running in NC now as well as similar facilities. In case you wondered, Hazy Little Thing has become the top seller over the traditional Pale Ale we all know and love. read more

At check in I was told we would get a beer sample before we started and that didn't happen. Juan was a great tour guide and kept us entertained. When we returned and got our flight, we were told about the self tour, but were not told we could bring our beer upstairs and enjoy the games. We wish they made it more noticiable, we finished our beer downstairs and then noticed we could have gone upstairs and played some games. It also would have been nice if we had the option of the beer flavors on the flight, or at least offered a price list to try other flavors. read more

Sierra Nevada Brewery is a treasure to be admired and experienced both at the source and wherever you can find their quality brews.

My brother's friend is a longtime member of their Alpha Hop Society membership only club and was unable to attend their July event. He kindly gifted us his tickets and we gladly made the trek from the Sacramento area. Parking is easy to find in their vast private lot. There was a fairly long line to check in, but employees promptly checked in everyone which was nice since it was a scorcher. It was awesome to get a look behind the scenes. They have a ton of cool vintage items on display and have an array of educational items throughout the brewery. It's refreshing they use non GMO ingredients unlike many others in the craft brewery business. Their event was first class. We were given a mini beer glass and allowed to sample an array of their products complimentary. They had a number of different products to sample, including a few that aren't publicly available just yet. Their Bigfoot beer aged in E.H. Taylor bourbon barrels was unique. I'm not a fan whatsoever of Truly and the other alcoholic seltzers that have become increasingly popular. They have a spiked agave lime seltzer coming out that's dangerously great. It's available for purchase at the brewery but hasn't hit stores yet. The food was delightful, fresh, inspiring, plentiful, and unique. It also paired well with their beers. The employees were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, polite, and professional. Their restrooms have unique copper sinks that are really cool looking. Everything was clean, sanitized, and well maintained. I didn't have any qualms attending their first post pandemic event. It was nice we were able to be spread out a bit within their large room. The gift shop has an array of items that are sure to please any fan. If you like mustard, they have a few different ones that are amazing. They also sell an array of beers and have a number on tap that you can enjoy there or takeout. If you're in the mood for a bite to eat, their brewhouse restaurant is located next door. It was an enjoyable and wonderful experience and I'd love to attend another event in the near future. I placed my name on their waiting list for their Alpha Hop Society club so hopefully a spot opens with my name on it sooner than later. They offer public tours and some events are for members only while others are open to the public. read more

This spot has been on the top of the list of the places I have wanted to go to for a long time. We were turned away because they do not allow dogs. They have an outdoor area that does allow dogs but because "it is a little wet on the ground" they decided to close it. Very disappointing as breweries and dogs often go together. After going on many brewing tours at different breweries across California, I can say without a doubt that this is the best tour I have been on. The value you receive for the affordable ticket price cannot be beat. You receive a beer before the tour, then get to see the brewing process from start to finish while touring the huge facility, and then finish the tour with sample pours of 4 different brews.
