Pretty good deals on camping stuff. It's not super cheap but reasonable if you're in a pinch.

Great store, lots to explore and the prices are reasonable, not what I expected in a tourist town. Staff was extremely friendly. My husband was waiting outside with our Aussie, so I could browse a bit and the staff came out and told him that the dog was welcomed to come in. We've been customers of Sierra Trading Post for many years but only shopped at the Reno, NV store and did not know about this outlet in Cody, WY. Imagine our surprise when we saw this store while checking out Cody downtown. It turns out to be just 2 blocks from our hotel. They have a very good variety and inventory of travel and outdoor performance clothing and gear. We always manage to find something even thought we may not have any specific things to be looking for. In this case, I found a very nice, high tech fabric, short sleeved shirt at more than half off! I bought it and I liked it so much, I wore it that night when we went out for dinner. It was a $40 shirt for just $15.99 and there were no blemishes or seconds. It was perfect! My wife also found a few things as well. If it weren't for the fact that I get a friends / family discount from Mountain Hardware, I would have spent a ton more at this place. I found it from the big billboards they have when you enter the town ... and having driven through several towns with populations less than 300, I has happy to see any business with a brand I recognized!! It's 4 floors of deals and steals ... a little bit of everything and pretty great given it's proximity to some awesome National Parks in the area. Definitely don't forget to go downstairs to the basement where the shoes are. Given that it's an outlet, I found the assortment a bit random and of course you always run of the risk that they won't have your size, but the camping food, the assortment of bags and backpacks, the miscellaneous accessories there was a plenty ... so I was able to snag a number of things I was happy to buy, but never really *needed*. read more

I purchased a pair of shoes at Sierra in late September for a Christmas gift. I tried to exchange for the correct size today (the day after Christmas). I was told they would not take back and would not even exchange for the correct size, even though they had in stock, and the shoes had not been worn. The manager told me to try to sell on our local classifieds!! I am appalled at the lousy customer service and apparently you can't shop early for Christmas in this store. Certainly not the great store it used to be. read more

Wow, four floors of pretty good deals on name brand adventure clothing, shoes, and gear. We stayed in Cody for two weeks and I had to check this place out. I went to one in Reno last year, and it was great. This one seemed less department storeish, and more unique due to the way it is split up. Easy to spend a lot of time here. Make sure to check the bargain bins and go to the basement for great deals on shoes! All shoes marked with a X are the last pair of that brand/style available. As for service, the older gentleman who works down in the shoe department was really nice as was the guy up in the gear section. I didn't get as much as a hello from the folks on the main floor. I definitely could have spent hundreds in this store, but only so much can fit into our RV! Tip: plan to spend some time here. Good bargain hunting. read more

Sierra used to be a great place to shop here in Cody, but it is fast become a much smaller version of what it was. Just be aware that if you are used to the four floors they used to have full of outdoor clothes and gear, that has been reduced to two. In addition, their return policy has changed significantly. In the past, Sierra would allow returns of any product they sold, within a year of purchase, with no questions asked. Now, you must return the item *in original condition* (read: like new), with tags and box if possible. We tried taking a pair of shoes back and were actually hassled, even though we had not taken this particular pair of shoes outside and had only worn them inside to make sure of fit. Hassled! The lady said that they "wouldn't be able to sell them in this condition"! Sierra is much less likely to get business from us. read more

My Wife dragged me into "The Post" for an after Christmas sale and I was pleasantly surprised. I came away with several things I needed, and a couple that I didn't. All the locals shop here......when they have sales. Otherwise their prices can be a little high. read more

I am a little disappointed by the whole situation. Every time I come in to Cody over the years I have been stopping at Sierra Trading Post with the expectation of finding some great products at good prices. The last time I was in it it turned into just another Odd Lot junk store. I love Carhartt work pants. I have always been able to walk into Sierra with the expectation of finding a couple of decent pair of pants. They have always carried a full line of Carhartt. Now they have a collection of Carhartt clothing, but mostly the light-duty disposable stuff. And the few things that they do have are odd sizes. I think that there were probably 5 pairs of Carhartt work pants with a 38 inch waist. The selection seem to be all 28-inch waist or 54 inch waist. Couple that with a 30-inch inseam. It looks like mostly stuff that does not sell well on the Internet site. I am not sure what the new business model is, but it is not for the Working Man. They have recently been bought out by another store and it looks like the new management has totally gutted the old business model. read more

Always loved shopping at the sierra trading post when passing through cody and bought a lot of stuff over the years. Was disappointed today when i contacted them regarding a jacket i bought thats hardly worn and no longer water proof only to find the lifetime satisfaction guarantee is no longer supported. Its fine to change your policy for future sales, but it would be prudent for your brand to honor past sales and the policies that existed then. read more

I would give this 2 and a half stars if that was a choice. The staff people were friendly. The selection of brands was good but the choices of sizes and colors were not so good. Of course this is a store and company that sells "odd lots" of merchandise so that's to be expected. If I was looking for shoes or boots I would recommend these folks. I've seen boots and shoes in their catalogs that I might buy, but mail-order of footwear is a hassle. The day I was there they had lots of high-end outdoor clothes for medium pricing. I was looking for real bargains. Like Jen C. said, pretty good deals on name brands. When I go shopping I generally know exactly what brand/size/color I'm looking for and these folks don't operate that way. But they have the coolest looking outlet store I've ever seen! Final summary- great if you're just looking for random nice goods and/or footwear that fits. If you're looking for an exact item keep checking their catalog and of course nowadays "Google is Your Friend". read more
