Sid is the best handyman I have ever hired. I have hired a lot of handy people, some have cost less and some have cost more, but Sid consistently delivers better work than others. First, I must comment on his drive for quality. Every job Sid has done lasts. He fixed a futon couch bed of mine that broke--two legs collapsed. After he fixed it the couch was better than what it was new. Sid has an understanding of design and a brilliant mind that make him a delight to work with. The last project he did for me was to install a carrier pulley system to the roof of my garage. I have one of those plastic boxes that go on top of my wagon to hold my skis. My goal was to pull in my car and have a mechanism to lower the box on top of the car. To make this work Sid had to augment the ceiling and make changes. He did what I asked and he knows me enough to design the system so I could take it with me if I move. I loved that he thought of this. Now, not only is the design awesome for my life now, if I move to new place the install would be less work and I still have the same great design that will now work in any garage. Sid will use recycled materials, and if the job is close, he rides his bike. He has really cool tools that I have never seen before. When he uses the saw to cut wood there is a vacuum attached so the sawdust goes into the vacuum. He always leaves my home clean after every job. I love this about him. My favorite part is I can email him photos of the space, object or thing I need his expertise for and he starts thinking about what is needed. With Sid, I feel like I get my money's worth on every job and his brilliance at design make him the kind of handyman who I would sit down and write a five star review for. Sid is a racist who refused to work on my project because I'm not white. One of my rental properties is located in Palo Alto and I contacted Sid to perform some repairs. I communicated with Sid multiple times via phone and email, sent him photos of the repair work, and discussed the job in detail. As soon as he saw my face in a photo, he said "I would rather not take on this project". Sid previously confirmed that the job was not too small, he was available with no schedule conflicts, and that he was easily capable of performing the work. With no other reasonable excuse, Sid said "the driving time will be a significant part of the cost", AFTER I had provided the Palo Alto address to him which is exactly 2.2 miles away from the Palo Alto address listed on his Yelp page. read more

I called Sid to have him repair damaged door locks. He scheduled an appointment, came on time and quickly repaired on of the locks with a simple adjustment. The other lock had a broken part, so he referred me to a locksmith shop in the area where I could get the part. He then returned to my home later that same day, completed the repair and re-installed the lock. I have many rentals - and do many many repairs - in several different cities - with many contractor's - over nearly 40 years. I made the huge mistake of hiring Sid - who charges the incredible $75 hour. Sid thinks that I am paying for his time. No, I am paying for a RESULT. Sid is very very skilled at running his taxi meter and stretching the job out - with his calm voice, going on and on about his perfectionistic methods - he described caulking a tub that would surely take at least 2 hours - i.e., $150 - when it should be $20-30 MAX!!!! Sid is very skilled - yes I am a corporate trainer with a PHD from Stanford and I can say - with the authority of an expert as judging a person at work - that Sid is very skilled at soothing the fears of know-nothing owners while he bilks them. Replacing a dishwasher should be about $100 - exclusive of the DW. With Sid it was nearly $1000- AND it turned out that the DW removed was fine. After all of his overpriced "work" - the new machine did exactly what the old one did - stop after about 5 min. So Sid came back with his taxi meter and billed me for a few more hours!!!! He doesn't have any "guarantee" or integrity - just a taxi meter. He said there must be an electrical short under the house - but for $75 per hour - he doesn't get dirty going under a house - like ALL other handymen (I don't think Sid has any license) I've hired over 40 years. Sid's concept of electrical work is calling his electrician friend on the phone to discuss it -- at $75/hr - and then to ask me what to do. Duh? I have done at least $500K in repairs and remodels - besides my high training in evaluating people at work - I know what I am talking about. Sid is a money suck and does not deliver for the enormously inflated fees he charges . .. so if you want to pay, pay, pay, pay to be soothed and told a pile of bull - while this "operator" has his hand in your pocket - go hire Sid. Otherwise try Service Magic or whatever it is called to get a bonafided quality person WITH A LICENSE . . instead of a guy taking advantage at highway robbery rates!!!!! A one-star is too high a rating for this rip-off. OH, and then after all of that Sid didn't even know how to write up a bill that was anywhere in the universe of "professional" - something even a 12 year old newspaper boy can do. All Sid does is diddle naive, frightened homeowners in affluent PA - like those writing reviews here - out of $$$ while giving that s--t-eating grin. He's an "operator"!!!!!!! read more

We love Sid! He is extremely smart (a former techie), hugely knowledgable, and he does beautiful and careful work. He repaired the water damaged wood cabinetry under our sink, and it looks brand new. He found perfect replacement handles to fit our faucet, so we didn't have to spend a ton replacing the whole thing. He gave me excellent advice for dealing with the hard water in Los Altos to keep our dishwasher in top shape. And that's just a few things I can think of off the top of my head. After numerous trips to Home Depot to try and get the right drilling equipment to install curtain rods and a mirror into the concrete walls of my office, I finally broke down and decided to call a handyman. Enter Sid...He arrived on time (after hours on a weekend, no less) and really took the time to do a quality job, put down a drop cloth so that the dust from the drilling didn't get on my furniture, fixed some other odds and ends in my office while he was there, and charged a very reasonable $75 for an hour's work. Sid was quite down to earth and easy going, and I'm very glad that I gave him a call. I'm also happy to now have some piece of mind that my mirror and curtains aren't going to come tumbling down on my head and computer (which probably would have happened had I tried to go ahead and do the job myself). Sid is fantastic. He's my go-to guy for fixing anything. I've always been pleased with him and have hired him many times over the years. His approach is that you pay for his time and not quotes and I think this is very reasonable. With this in mind, I wouldn't hire him to do something you could do yourself with ease, but I do hire him for small jobs I could do with effort (which he would do with ease and high quality, such as putting up drape rods) as well as bigger jobs that are beyond what I could do well or at all (more complex plumbing or electrical). If you think about how much your time is worth and how much he charges and what a great job he does, it's a no brainer to hire him. read more

Sid is wonderful! He did some work for our company when we moved in to our new office space. More specifically, he hung some Ikea kitchen cabinets for us and was thoughtful about it (e.g. he asked me if we would be adding additional cabinets or if he should cut the railing the cabinets hung on so it would look nicer). His measurements were accurate, the cabinets were straight, sturdy (we overload them on a regular basis with no problems) and they look great! He has a great energy about him and I wouldn't use another handyman for our office projects now that I know about Sid. Amazing! I needed a bunch of random jobs done around my new home at the last minute (hanging mirrors/floating shelves/decor and installing lighting). I called Sid on Monday around 3:15 (so he does work Mondays, at least occasionally), and he was at my place within 15 minutes. Sid is amazing! I'm the office manager in a large building in Palo Alto and have been using Sid as my "primary care" handyman for a few years. He is extremely knowledgeable, and willing to give you his advice! He has helped me do so many projects at our office, including replacing dozens of lightbulbs in 15ft ceilings, putting together metal cabinetry, replacing high pressure tanks in our toilets and even helped me save tons of money by installing metal conduit to the outside of our building that an electrician quoted me $2000 more than it cost Sid to do it. If I can't do it myself, I know Sid CAN. I have yet to come across a problem that Sid can't help me with! Sid is the best handyperson I have ever had help from. He is thoughtful, smart, skilled, gentle, sweet, knowledgeable and expeditious. Way over-educated (a real engineer) for the work he is doing. When Sid fixes things, they stay fixed. He righted a window that would not close -- took the frame off the window, confirmed that the house had settled and un-squared the frame, put in shims to straighten it, re-attached the frame, found the right paint, and repainted the frame. Perfect. Found me the right piano light. Replaced the oven. Fixed the blinking fluttering under-counter lights. Pets and chatters with the cats when he comes. He has done lots more for us too, from fixing cupboard doors to organizing our roof replacement. His hourly charge is not the lowest, but he's unquestionably the most cost-effective. Plumbing? I agree with "Amy R" that I almost want something in my house to be broken just so I can hire Sid! I called him to get quotes on a few jobs I wanted done in my new house. But all were a bit too involved/specialized for what he is used to. When I mentioned skylights, he said he doesn't really like to install them but has in the past. He then offered to sell me one that he has left over from a previous job, for a huge discount. I'll definitely keep Sid in mind in case I need something fixed.
