Christine at Side Street Bakery was amazing to work with for my recent wedding. She did the cutest cupcakes and a wonderful small cake to go on top. We also had her provide us with cookies for our family and out of town friends dinner. Interestingly, many of my guests who asked where our cake came from did not know this bakery. I myself had only recently stumbled upon the business while out going all over Southport to sell ads for the Historical Society House tours booklet. Prior to this I had never been there either. Visited this adorable place with my boyfriend today, we had a gift certificate and the nice lady was so incredibly sweet and took her time with my indecisiveness. I don't have a huge sweet tooth but I picked out the lemon bar and it was so ridiculously good, I could eat that every day, it was the best I've ever tried! I really believe in supporting local businesses and this place is very special. It has many unique, yummy options. They have cookies, filled & regular/glazed donuts, heavenly-looking raspberry cream cheese things and much more. Needed a birthday cake for my favorite son-in-law (only one!). It had to be as special as he is. Christina came through with flying colors! I could not have been any more pleased! We drove all the way from West Beach on Oak Island to Southport expressly to see what Side Street had to offer after seeing some excellent sounding descriptions and some gorgeous photos of sweets (cupcakes, etc.) on another website. Sadly, we were underwhelmed with the execution. Haven't been able to bring myself to go back as of yet, but probably will anyway next time I'm in town. read more

I first had the carrot cake -- I dream about it sometimes. Perfect, light, nutty, carroty, just right dense, sweet and cream topping, Went back for a second look -- had the chocolate mousse cake. Oh my.. two for two on super delicioso (yes it got the "o"). Nothing too sweet, nice mousse layered on top and in-between a nice dense moist chocolate cake. Simple and perfect.
