Best treatment for TMJ. When I was 20 years old, I was rear ended in a car accident that dramatically changed my life. I had reverse curvature in my neck, which affected my posture, back, and caused myo-facial pain. I had a surgery for my back that made my sciatica pain worse. I experienced nerve pain down my arms and numbness in my fingers. An orthopedic Doctor informed me that the discs in my jaw had been displaced, which affected my posture and caused all of the nerve pain. The idea that a TMJ treatment would solve all of these problems sounded far-fetched. After trying various TMJ treatments with mixed results, I was very discouraged. Last year, my daughter began having severe TMJ. This was a result of a misaligned jaw from braces/tooth extraction. Lots of orthodontists straighten the teeth at the expense of the jaw. Dr. Solomon was assigned as my primary care provider by my DHMO. I hadn't been to the dentist for a few years (I know, I know) and I was feeling pretty anxious, but they were initially quite friendly and professional when I went in for an appointment. However, upon evaluating me and doing an initial x-ray, the staff told me I had significant periodontal disease. They refused to treat me and instead referred me to a periodontist. Feeling incredibly concerned about my dental health, I went to the periodontist, who told me that my only problem was that I simply had a lot of tartar and I just needed a cleaning. Confused, I called Dr. Solomon's office back, and they told me Dr. Solomon and the periodontist would confer and they would call me back. After several weeks of not hearing from them, I called their office and found that my number went straight to voicemail. I left a message and did not hear back. A few weeks later I called again several times, my number kept going to voicemail, and I continued to leave multiple messages with no response. It finally dawned on me - and I am not kidding - THEY SET MY NUMBER TO GO STRAIGHT TO VOICEMAIL rather than speaking to me about my care. I called back from a blocked number and - sure enough - I finally got through. They told me I could wait months for a new appointment or else find another primary care dentist. You can guess which option I chose. Bottom line: these are unethical, money-grubbing people who have zero genuine concern for patient care. Avoid specially if you're on an DHMO: they will laugh all the way to the bank with your capitation payments every month but will refuse to treat you when you come in. I've had migraines since I was eight years old. As an adult, I noticed increasing tension in my jaw upon waking up each morning, which transitioned into a massive migraine by the late morning or middle of the day. The only thing that took the edge off the pain was my prescription migraine medication. But I could only take a limited number per month (and thus began running out by the end of each month). And yes, I was sleeping with a professionally molded/fitted mouthguard for all of those years. Then, last November (2023), I woke up with a locked jaw. After a series of useless treatments with a chiropractor in Pasadena (who claimed to specialize in TMJ), I went to a highly recommended dentist at Cedars. She gave me a Cortizone shot, and said the next step was to take some impressions so that we could make a new mouthguard. The Cortizone shot did in fact unlock my jaw (for which I was eternally grateful). But I knew that a "new" mouthguard created in the same way as the old one wasn't going to solve anything long-term. And I'd need a lasting solution before that cortisone shot wore off! I found Dr. Sid Solomon's office here on Yelp, read through the reviews, and sensed this was the doctor for me. A day later, my acupuncturist told me about a dentist who had cured her own TMJ and thus changed her life. And guess who that was?.. Dr. Solomon. I came in for my consultation in late November, a desperate mess. And I honestly balked at the costs (to be fair, they were presented to me via phone when I booked the appointment, which I did appreciate). But I also knew that Dr. Solomon's deep understanding of TMJ anatomy/physiology, coupled with his extremely meticulous manner of measurements (inc a combo of molds and electrodes that detect degrees of muscular tensions in various mandibular positions) were what I'd need in order to acquire an appliance that would solve the issue. This review was a long time coming. I went into see Dr. Sid Solomon in the summer of 2018. I was hurting so much and having some issues opening my mouth, chewing. He gave me treatment to fix my tmj. Using all these high high tech machines that claim to fix tmj and get you the correct bite. Right off the bat it was about 8500-9000 for his treatment. My husband said what a rip off, but I was desperate. Over the months, I had an orthotic appliance 3500 to fix my tmj. Ate with it and wore it 24/7. It took care of the issue about 50-75% as long as wore it 24/7. I was told prob need it full time 3-6 months. After 1 year was still wearing it full time and it would break every 2-3 months! After 1-2 years said forget it(10-11 thousand spent now) they never took my insurance. lol. Then went back and was told would need this all the time or get botox. Silly me again, got a new guard... they on purpose lost my bite and charged me 2500! so now we are 13-14 k in! Never fixed issue and hurt so much my tmj. Finally by May of 2021 said forget it. Forward 2022 and moved back home to Michigan. Saw my local dentist from my childhood. He fitted me for a night guard. Cost with insurance $125 and never has broken. I wear it usually at nights, but do forget and my tmj has improved since 2022 by 90%. I chew gum, eat seeds, nuts, jerky! and no pain. So 125 dollars helped me tons and 14 thousand did nothing except heartache. His wife wore Prada daily. You know why? they prey on patients desperate and charge outrageous prices and never fix the issue. Tmj treatment should never cost so much! insurance should cover and this place is a scam. In my opinion. I cried a lot over the money they took from us and did not realize was scammed until 4-5 years later. Go to a dentist, get insurance to cover and refuse to pay over 500! it will fix the issue of tmj more. I hope this review helps someone NOT make the mistake I did! You can see a dentist and get a nightguard. Don't fall for his ways. They lie and he is in it to make money, lot's of it. Beverly Hills a rip off! Trust me on this. TL;DR if you are facing a complex or severe TMJ case you need to book a consult with Dr. Sid Solomon. He may just be able to save your life! A little background on myself: I am a 26 Y/O Male with a severe and tumultuous history with TMJ. I've had orthognathic surgery and multiple rounds of orthodontics that have left me crippled with pain. As such, I have done an enormous amount of research into the Neuromuscular, and more importantly, the Gneuromuscular space (gnathological neurological space). Dr. Sid's background and understanding goes wayyyyyyy beyond just taking a TENS bite and sending you on your merry way. I have been to EVERY TMJ specialist in the Los Angeles area, and Dr. Sid is the ONLY one who practices and- simply put- understands how a K7 evaluation should be done. Dr. Solomon will be able to find your bite in a way that no other specialist in Los Angeles can. Trust me, I spent $11,000 dollars at the other main "neuromuscular dentist" in Los Angeles, and I deeply deeply deeply regret doing that. But I think more importantly than the above, Dr. Solomon and Fay have the WARMEST hearts ever. They truly care about their patients' health, and it shows in both of their bed-side manners/attentiveness when you are consulting with them. If you are in a dark place or are in severe pain, I would highly recommend coming to Dr. Solomon FIRST. Don't waste your time at any of the other "TMJ specialists." This review is not for services, it is for the consultation only. Possibly the orthotics really work for tmj, but the sales tactics used screamed snake oil to me. They start with an assessment of your posture. Sounds good right? I buy that bad posture can contribute to jaw pain. Well.. he brought up my posture reading and showed where I have some spinal asymmetry with the way I stand. Then he showed a picture with 'how I would look in twenty years' which basically had my spine totally twisted and messed up. And then began to argue that not only was my tmj the cause of my minor posture issues, but that if I didn't fix my tmj, a totally crippled spine would be the result. Uhm what? Total bs scare tactic. He then described in great detail how bite issues get worse and worse over time in a an extremely animayed way. Again, it felt like scare tactics to me - I've had many consultations and never had this level of 'hard sell'. Worse still, he hadn't even looked at my bite or mouth yet. The first thing that happens at any legitimate consultation is an examination. That happened in the last ten minutes of the consult and almost no detail as to the status of my bite, what I could expect to see improved with treatment, and why some treatments would be better than others, etc. was given. The dentist didn't mention any alternate treatments to the 6k orthotic, like Botox, he went in straight for the hard sell and scare tactics on the orthotic. Pass. read more

A very neat and small clinic so + points I went their for a routine cleaning. Very friendly doctors and staff +point They took X-rays and measured depths, scared me that I will loose my teeth if I don't get deep cleaning and antibiotics. Even though I had an insurance they managed to bill me $550. They charged me for everything including services not performed (or postponed for the next visit). For example, I was charged for antibiotics for four shots but I rmbmr getting just two. They never compared bills with actual treatment offered as it might have clarified my doubts. I was sort of forced to buy a mouthwash (30+ dollars) which I later realized that is not even FDA approved. According to doctors if I don't use it, I might have problems again. To add up doctor walked up and tried to convince me to get cosmetic surgery even though everything is ok with my teeth (according to the other dentist). They even offered a free checkup with some other doctor who after checking tried to tell me that I should get some other surgery (some 1500 USD per quarter or in that range) and according to him it is not absolutely necessary. After my visits I felt that it is more like a money making business rather than a clinic. If you decide to go be careful and always take second opinion before you agree to spend 100s of dollars. I am sure he is a qualified dentist and his team is well trained but money oriented thinking is not encouraging to revisit this clinic. read more

I have had a long run trying to find the right treatment for my TMJ pain. It's hard not to give up after trying a few different locations but my pain was constant enough I really couldn't ignore it. I found Dr. Solomon's practice through Google and am thankful the staff was very transparent about the treatment, cost, and other expectations when I called. The treatment was noninvasive and way more comfortable for me to agree to than surgery. I'd be struggling with TMJ pain for years. I was prescribed a bite guard by a general dentist but a different TMJ expert I saw said that was exacerbating the problem. I was then upgraded to a custom fit device that helped but I still had a lot of pain in the ears, face, etc. A desperate search led me to Dr. Solomon's office and in the year + that I have been wearing the orthotic device he made for me, I'd say 95% of the pain has gone. There is no getting around how expensive it is, but at least it was non-invasive (which eased my initial hesitation) and has been a massive help. I could write a novel here but what it comes down to is the fact that Dr. Solomon told me verbatim I couldn't have an underlying issue for my jaw issues because I was young. Apparently pediatric rheumatology doesn't exist. If you have condylar bone loss, save your money and move on. He/his office could not find a single patient with advanced bone loss willing to talk to me and tell me it worked for them. I tried it myself anyways. I wore the appliance 24/7 for months until the pain was intolerable. I would take it out to rest my jaw. Eventually my dog chewed it up, and she did me a favor.
