They requested my insurance information through messages, and I provided everything they asked for, so I assumed everything was good to go. On the day of my appointment, the front desk simply checked me in and did not mention anything about a co-pay. I was seated in the dental chair where they took X-rays and panoramic photos of my teeth. I will say that the dentist was great--very kind, professional, and pleasant to talk to. However, when it was time to check out, the front desk told me I had to pay a $76 co-pay. I was surprised because I believed my insurance should have covered it. I didn't really have a choice but to pay, even though it was a heavy expense for me as a single mom who is currently unemployed. That same day, I messaged the clinic to ask for clarification about why I had to pay. I believe that before any procedures are done, the front desk should clearly explain what will be performed and what the expected costs or co-pays will be--especially for first-time patients. Only then was I told that while they accept TRICARE, they are not in network. This should have been clearly explained beforehand because not everyone understands the difference, including me. Now I have received another bill in the mail for $207, which is very frustrating and unexpected. I wish the clinic had been more transparent about costs and insurance coverage from the beginning Update: After communicating with one of the staff members, Maria, she was able to look into my concern and help resolve the issue. The additional $207 bill was corrected, and I did not end up having to pay it. I appreciate her taking the time to assist me and address the problem. Thank you.

These people are thieves, extortionists, and commit insurance fraud…read more I've been a patient here for 2 years. They were recommended to me by a coworker. Everything had been fine until my latest and last visit. Last year Dr Patel recommended I get some fillers for a few teeth. The vibe of this place is very sales-y. They definitely try to upsell you on things. Which I get, everyone needs to make some money. So I decided to get the fillings done. I had 3 fillings done last June (2025). They submitted the claim through my insurance and I paid the copay. Fast forward to today - 1 year later, June '26 - as i'm leaving my routine cleaning the front desk woman said I had a balance due on my account. I asked if she could just email me an invoice since I'd already spent nearly an hour there and had other commitments. I said I'd take a look at it as I wasn't sure why I would have a balance due. She pushed and said it's just $50.40 - As though it being a nominal amount meant that I should just pay it without knowing what I was paying for. I said that's fine, but I'd like to make sure I know what I'm paying for and will need to talk with my insurance. At this point of the conversation the man with the long hair and nose ring interjects into the conversation and starts demanding payment. He was practically yelling at me. It was highly unprofessional and made me uncomfortable. Given that he was demanding payment on the spot I tried to ask clarifying questions but he would not answer clearly. He said that it's for services rendered and it's due today. He became increasingly hostile and combative so I left the office seeing as the conversation wasn't going anywhere. I figured they'd send me the invoice anyway and I'd get it sorted. They did indeed send a follow-up email demanding payment within 15 days or they'd send it to collections. Given that this was the first I'd heard of a balance owed on my account, I found it highly suspicious that they'd be so threatening. Note that I had a cleaning with them between my appt when I got the filling and the latest cleaning. Additionally they have all of my contact info and never once sent me an invoice. In any case I started combing through my emails from them, my receipts, and the insurance claims they sent to my insurer. Turns out they had fraudulently billed my Insurance for 4 fillings instead of 3, and the outstanding balance they claimed I owed was the exact copay amount for the 4th tooth. I reviewed the invoice again and noticed another discrepancy. The teeth they claimed to have filled were incorrect. What I find comical is that one of the teeth that the invoice reflects as filled is actually one that Dr Morim mentioned I should get filled at the appointment that literally just took place. With all that being said, I've obviously reached out to the Dental Board of California and i filed a formal complaint, I've notified my insurance of their fraud, and have contacted an attorney to explore other avenues of legal action that may be available. The thing that is most upsetting about this scenario is how they treated me. I've been a loyal client to them for 2 years, but it felt like they were treating me like some common thief trying to evade payment. Given that they destroyed all goodwill i had for them, I've obviously decided to find another provider. I highly recommend avoiding this practice. Though I'd be surprised if they still have a license to operate after I'm done with them.

However, the front desk has been a major issue. I've been trying to get a pre-authorization for wisdom teeth surgery for 6 months now......and it hurts!! Every time I ask about the status, I'm told to contact my insurance myself, often with interruptions and a dismissive attitude. They've given multiple excuses for delays, but my insurance confirms they've never received a request. While the doctor is outstanding, the front desk's repeated mishandling and poor communication make the process unnecessarily stressful. The office needs to improve their insurance coordination and patient communication. --------------------- After posting this review, I received a call from the front desk saying I am no longer welcome at the office due to my review. And suggested me ti cancel my wisdom teeth removal appointment. First if all, I feel extremely uncomfortable to be contacted via phone for my review; Secondly,it is unprofessional to suggest a patient to cancel a surgery ( which is well needed) because patient's online review. And again during that call, I was interrupted multiple times and the tone felt dismissive. This unfortunately reinforces my original concerns. Finally, I'm shocked that my preauthorization remains unresolved after over six months, yet it takes less than a day to act on a negative review. Great image management!

I did not…read morefind a reliable dentist whom I could trust when I was in medical school, and when I started residency at UCLA, I asked around for almost 6 months before I found Dr. Khou -- a recommendation from a former ucla medical student as well. I am over the moon! I have now recommended Dr. Khou as well to all of my coresidents, and I can see why he's so busy!! I cannot say even great things about Dr. Khou and this team at Ask Dental. He and his office are incredibly supportive -- the number of times I've needed to reschedule my follow ups or even come in during the weekdays in an emergency (chipped tooth, worried about sensitive gums etc), his office has always managed to schedule me in. I don't know how he does it!! They have a very efficient scheduling system via phone call and text reminders (of note, please make sure to not cancel within 48 hours - they say there's a cancellation fee but I haven't cancelled so soon before an appt before). Their office is so conveniently located in Westwood -- I always take time off and stroll from UCLA Reagan during the afternoons to make my dentist appointments. His office is so clean (doesn't have that traditional dentist smell!) & there's a calming big screen TV with calming music and a scenic montage in the background). His office also provides little goodie bags with dental floss, toothbrush and tooth paste for every dental check up!! Truly - when I'm an attending and graduate residency soon, I hope to still continue seeing Dr. Khou as a patient for as long as possible!
