Even though I am a medical resident, I have always anxious about going to the dentist! I did not find a reliable dentist whom I could trust when I was in medical school, and when I started residency at UCLA, I asked around for almost 6 months before I found Dr. Khou -- a recommendation from a former ucla medical student as well. I am over the moon! I have now recommended Dr. Khou as well to all of my coresidents, and I can see why he's so busy!! I cannot say even great things about Dr. Khou and this team at Ask Dental. He and his office are incredibly supportive -- the number of times I've needed to reschedule my follow ups or even come in during the weekdays in an emergency (chipped tooth, worried about sensitive gums etc), his office has always managed to schedule me in. I don't know how he does it!! They have a very efficient scheduling system via phone call and text reminders (of note, please make sure to not cancel within 48 hours - they say there's a cancellation fee but I haven't cancelled so soon before an appt before). Their office is so conveniently located in Westwood -- I always take time off and stroll from UCLA Reagan during the afternoons to make my dentist appointments. His office is so clean (doesn't have that traditional dentist smell!) & there's a calming big screen TV with calming music and a scenic montage in the background). His office also provides little goodie bags with dental floss, toothbrush and tooth paste for every dental check up!! Truly - when I'm an attending and graduate residency soon, I hope to still continue seeing Dr. Khou as a patient for as long as possible! read more

For the work that wasn't covered by insurance, the assistants came in to go over the pricing for the additional work so there weren't any surprises. I'm a new patient here. Dr khou and his team saw me last minute for an issue I had. They were kind enough to explain the dental benefits to me as I'm not familiar with them as much as I should be. They saw me and took care of my issue without hesitation. Dr. Thou is an excellent dentist. He didn't sell me anything about any other issues and asked me to return when I have time. He fixed the chip on my tooth and got me on my way. He has excellent bed side manner and is really relaxed and actually funny. The entire staff seemed comfortable and happy. I came to this dental practice after having had several unpleasant experiences with Angeleno Smile. A fellow UCLA student recommended this place after having similar experiences at Angeleno. This practice is small but well run. Dr. Khou is friendly, professional, and doesn't try to upsell you on unecessary services like what I experienced at Angeleno Smile. The receptionist is well trained, friendly, and appointments are booked with ease. The only downside is that you have to pay for parking if you park in the garage below this office complex. I was told there is a nearby parking lot that is free for patients but I wasn't aware of that until I was in the dentist office. I would recommend this place for any UCLA students looking for a good dentist in the area and have Delta Dental Insurance. It is within walking distance from the UCLA campus as well. read more

Having recently moved to LA I was eager to find a good dentist. I also hadn't been to a dentist in years so I was a bit anxious! I am happy to report that my experience at ASK has been wonderful. I've had two visits (initial cleaning and a follow-up for a filling). At both visits, I was impressed with how I was seen immediately with no wait time. I recommend filling out your forms in advance online to speed up the check-in process. The staff are friendly and clearly communicate the actions they are going to take / procedures they'll do which makes the experience less daunting. It also helps that the view of Westwood from their office is spectacular!! The office is so clean, and I felt safe during COVID. While both visits were quick (30 min - 1 hr), I felt like Dr. K and the staff were thorough and efficient. I did not feel rushed. Everything in the first visit was covered by my Delta Dental insurance (cleaning and X-rays), and I paid $45 for a white resin filling, which was an excellent experience. This is the first time I've had a dentist really explain what is going on in my X-rays and outline my treatment plan in a way that is easy to understand. Dr. K is kind and honest, and does not try to sell you on expensive / unnecessary treatments. He gives you the advice he'd give to a family member, and lets you decide for yourself. This was the BEST dental experience I've ever had!!! I came into the office extremely hesitant because I knew my wisdom teeth were coming out AND I haven't been to the dentist in over a year. All the girls in the office were professional and informative, and I was never waiting for more than a few minutes or so. This review is primarily for Dr. Ardy who is such a fantastic provider. If you are pre-health and have UCSHIP, I would recommend coming to his practice for a cleaning or a check just to observe how informative and professional he was. I love love love ASK Dental, the team, and Dr. K. I've had a long history of dentists since I was a kid, multiple root canals etc. Bad experiences btw, one of my root canals ended me up in a week long hospital stay. Very scary as a kid. When I came to UCLA I was looking for work to remove my silver caps and get the teeth checked out under there & found Dr. K, a godsend! This man is so gentle, reassuring, and actually cares about his patients. Considering I was a college student and obviously very unknowledgeable about insurance, he worked with me to schedule out my hefty amount of work to make sure I got the most out of my dental coverage & the financial burden didn't rest on me. This man doesn't even know my background story or anything but let's just say that meant a lot to me. I've been out of college for 3 years now & finally enrolled in a PPO insurance so I can still visit this dentist office despite it being 30 min away. Let's just say this review is long over due! I've never had a dentist like Dr Ardy before! He spends a lot of time educating patients on their current dental health and on what issues could pop up in the future. On top of that, he provides clear instructions on what the best courses of action in terms of preventing those issues from manifesting, keeping in mind the feasibility and the prices of different possible procedures. In my case, I had a wisdom tooth that was already growing sideways into another molar. He explained how that wisdom tooth could damage the other molar if it's not taken out, and how it would be difficult to address that cavity if it becomes severe enough. I had my wisdom teeth removed elsewhere and returned to have the other molar checked. I was impressed by his honesty when he said that the best course of action at that point was to do nothing, since the damage to the molar ended up not being severe enough. The only course of action possible was a crown, which was overkill at this point I guess. He then prescribed some high fluoride toothpaste to help prevent the damage from worsening. Overall a pleasant and professional experience! Not surprised that he teaches at UCLA. read more

If you have UcShip insurance , you should definitely head over to ASK dental. Not sure if they accept other major insurance companies but I was assured that all routine procedures during my appointment would be covered by my insurance. That's surprisingly something that many practices in Southern California can not say. It was a bit difficult to find the dental office but if you enter the entrance of the main plaza that's facing Wilshire and head up the elevators to floor 11, the office will be on your right hand side. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised- the atmosphere from the hallway to the office was night and day. It was clean and bright in the dental office. They even had a coffee machine! The office staff were really kind and helped me sign in and fill out appropriate paperwork. Their new patient paperwork does require a profile picture taken on an iPad like device. Just a heads up for those who want to look a bit more presentable. Seems like the office has around 2-3 rooms. I didn't have to wait long though to get in at all as it's a well oiled machine there. There were dental hygienists and dental students who proceeded with xrays and general cleaning. But the star of the show is Dr. Khou. He is very knowledgeable and will give you his honest opinion when you are making dental decisions. I felt like a family member when he gave me his advice. Dr. Khou is a UCLA faculty member of the dental school and it definitely shows. He thoroughly explains everything from the procedures he is doing to helping you understand what is the root cause of your dental problems. In fact, even went out of his way to contact one of his endodontist colleagues to identify the exact cause of a rare dental issue. His genuine care for his patients and honesty in his work are rare qualities in dentistry. If you go here, you dont even have to ask for him-he's the only dentist there. The one benefit of being a dental student is that it offers you a much deeper appreciation of good dentistry and a more thorough understanding of the philosophies and clinical approaches that underpin a great dentist. (I'm sure there are other benefits to being a dental student but I'm too stressed out to appreciate them). Dr. Ardy is a real dentist, not a salesman who happened to go into dentistry. I went into his office to address some problems I had with my smile (generalized staining as well as mild fluorosis on my central incisors). He got rid of the staining with a quick cleaning (he's super efficient) and explained how specific aspects of my otherwise healthy diet (namely whey protein shakes) can often lead to increased staining, especially in areas between teeth. Furthermore, instead of trying to sell me on the procedure to get rid of the mild fluorosis, he explained the lack of guaranteed results from these relatively new treatments, as they are often hyped by dental biotech companies without a significant bulk of clinical research proving their worth. I'm grateful to have found an awesome dentist in the area who is modern enough to have digital patient onboarding and easy xray access, but classic enough to still believe that the best dentistry is often the least dentistry. Although I probably won't have much real work to give him over the coming years (knock on wood), I'm happy that I have him in my corner to keep track of my dental health. read more

My father was a dentist for almost 30 years, so I have very high standards for dental care. This office is extremely efficient yet I never felt rushed. Both times I came here (cleaning/exam and filling), I was seen immediately. In fact, these are the only two times in my life when a Dr. was NOT running behind. Dr. Khou is also very honest. I had a prior dentist tell me that I needed to have SIX cavities filled immediately ($$$$) including two front teeth, while Dr. Khou (and my dad) explained they were not necessary, because they were most likely arrested and not an issue. Dr. Ardy seems very nice when you first meet him. I have been a patient for the past two years and he is consistently changing staff or under staffed. I recently requested my X-rays over the phone and the lady in the front office told me she wouldn't be able to send them to me at the moment since she needed the Doctors approval. I asked why because they are my X-rays and I am verbally authorizing release of them. She then said "oh because we can't be sending out X-rays to all of our patients". Neglected the dentist for a good 5 years so I was terrified coming in already. The only thing that got me to set that appointment is because one of my fillings fell out and I needed consultation. I usually don't go to any dentist but my family dentist, whom I've been seeing for the past 20 years, but since I moved out to LA I needed a new one. Love Dr. Ardy!!! Not only did he make me feel okay about my situation he was very comforting and straight forward. This guy also doubles as a professor at USC dental school so when he explains to you what's wrong, he will thoroughly explain everything to you! My old dentist would just come in with the X-ray and tell me "hey you have a cavity, let's do work." So I never knew the consequences or the science behind healthy dental. Trust me when I say the health business has become more business than health related, where doctors try to expand a problem only to make money off you. This is not the case here, Dr. Ardy is the most genuine dentist, he told me the truth, gave me a price estimate, recommended what I should do and encouraged me to go get second opinions about the situation. He even put in wonderful words of his colleagues and recommendations as well. I hope all aspiring doctors turn out like this guy. He is so wonderful. All in end, I absolutely HATE the dentist, because I'm that person who always gets the "you got a cavity" news but after my appointment today, I think I found my annual go to guy!!! Oh my gosh, awesome! I've never really had a dentist before where I had such a great experience. He caught stuff that other dentists had missed in the past (like these brown spots I've had on my teeth for a while were actually cement left over from when I got my braces off 14 years ago) and took care of it!
