Been following this record shop for a while on IG and finally made the trip up for my birthday. Getting there was a bit frustrating- GPS took me to the wrong side of the building, and calling for directions wasn't very helpful. For some reason the person on the phone was frustrated pretty quick. Once inside, the space was clean and spacious, but no music playing. Unfortunately, the selection felt pretty limited and not fully stocked, so there wasn't much to dig through this time. Cool shop overall, just not the vibe for me on this day. read more

Sibylline is a gem of a record shop in the Pasadena area filled with lots of treasures and great finds. There is no parking lot here, but a good amount of street parking all around the area. Inside, they are a smaller shop but have a good amount of records to sort through. Their selection ranges from different genres and are usually more old school. In this day and age, it's getting harder and harder to find a store that (1) grades records accurately, (2) offers great prices, and (3) has truly killer stock--and Sibylline checks all three boxes. The team is fantastic, and the shop itself feels incredibly curated, with some of the best titles I've seen anywhere. This review is long overdue! I don't typically leave reviews but as a local Pasadena resident, you need to give credit where it's due and support local business. Sibylline Records is an amazing store and Pasadena is privileged to have them with us! As soon as you step in you notice the cleanliness and organization of the shop. None of that dark, dingy, and dusty atmosphere most record stores have. None of their bins are overstuffed risking the records from getting warped. Each record is in a new clear protective sleeve, with the records in individual inner sleeves as well. You can truly perceive their quality of care and genuine interest to provide VG+ or NM products! Regarding each product, they tell you exactly what pressing they have. No ambiguity or guessing. And if you have any doubt, they gladly will look it up for you and show you which pressing it is. Pricing is very fair as well. They are not taking advantage of rare pressings or up-charging. I have found most of their prices land right in the middle of Discogs' median prices, and that's despite their records being in very good shape and care. Sibylline truly cares about their customers and provides excellent service and care. Also, don't let the size of the store fool you! They are jam packed with many more albums on their online store and their Discogs shop. Their wide and huge selection is definitely worth the look. One of the best things to happen for music collectors and sellers in Pasadena for a long time. This place came highly recommended by a friend who sold back a few of her records there. Walked into the store, and immediately, the vibe felt right. Well-curated collection, very kind and sweet staff, quiet and cozy little place. A friend recently passed, and I was looking to sell their lot of records to a decent place that would give me a decent price on them and could get them to people who would love and care for them. Shane (the store owner) truly went above and beyond ALL of the other stores I called, offering to come to the house, dig through everything himself, pack up everything, and transport everything themselves. Gave me a wonderful price that will help their family pay off final bills and help me out as well. Excited to see this independent music store (OWNED BY MUSICIANS WITH BANDS! As a vinyl collector, I've visited many record shops in the LA and SGV areas. Out of all those shop, I must say Sibylline is at the top. Its a small shop but they always have a great selection of various types of music. Most importantly is that they really focus on quality. Most of the records are in really good to mint condition. They use nice thick cover sleeves to protect the records and they also put the record in its own quality inner sleeve (with the rounded edges too for easier insertion into the cover). They also put the record on the outside so you can see the quality of it and ensure that its the correct record. Yes Ive seen the wrong records inside of covers many times. On top of that, their prices are great. Even rare records are priced fairly making for a great experience. Some shops price gouge just because a record is old or rare but not here. They actually care about their customers and offer good deals that keep you coming back. Overall, visiting the store is a great experience and all the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. If you're into vinyl either as a hobby or seriously collector, I highly recommend Sibylline Records. Youre sure to find some neat and rare records there, whether 45's or 33's and all genres. While the shop is small and could be better organized, they did have a good collection of secondhand vinyl records (LPs, EPs, 7" singles), CDs, and even cassettes. The place also has a nice vibe with plants and two turntables for listening to vinyl records. The sections are organized by genre (e.g., international, alternative/punk, new wave, electronica, jazz, folk, etc.) but not further organized (e.g., alphabetically by artist). The vinyl records all had clear exterior sleeves and looked like they were in very good condition. The bins underneath had $5 records but were hard to view. The CDs are also harder to see. The prices seemed fair (most of the 7" singles were $3). You can also sell and trade your record collection. read more

Their selection is priced very fairly, refreshed daily and includes all genres (even a kid's section), 12" and 7" records, tapes, CDs, and music magazines - all in excellent condition - no beaten covers or media in here. It's a small, clean space that's easy to browse and you can preview records on two high quality turntables in the back. You can check out some gems from their current stock on IG, then message them to buy if you see something you like, or bring them your old music to trade for cash or store credit. 5+++++. A must if you're in L.A. This has become my go to place when I'm in the area. As a forty year collector and obsessive music lover this is the shop you love/dream to find. It is also is highly recommended to those new to vinyl as an example of everything a record shopping experience should be. Always reminds me why I'm so into collecting. -The shop itself is cozy and everything is well organized. It is also very welcoming. -Prices are such that my phone NEVER leaves my pocket checking to see if it is cheaper elsewhere. It isn't. Keep flipping through and picking. No collector worries here. -The selection is amazing. And varied. The new arrival bins are goldmines. Inventory is always changing. -Listening stations are available to sample anything. -The inventory is sleeved correctly. This is a big one for me since most places don't do this. Makes it easy to see condition and it's just the right thing to do. -Condition is always top rated. Picked up many an upgrade copy. -Owners are a pleasure to deal with and super friendly. Go above and beyond. -Don't sleep on their CD and cassette sections. Tons of gems in those. Lots of 45s too (well curated). Just go! Can't wait for what my next visit will bring. I used to enjoy going to Sibylline and spending hours listening to their collection ($$$) of vintage Afropop and Outsider Vinyl. I would spend $100-$200 easily, every time I went in. I like to take my time, they have a listening station which is very convenient. However, I expect to have the use of the bathroom facilities when I'm there for over thirty minutes. The last time I was there I was first told, "the bathroom is for customers". When I told the person working I am a customer I was told "the bathroom is for employees". Sorry, I won't be coming back (also, they have bad store hours and their shirts are low quality). read more

They seem much more geared to the LP buyer and not so much for the CD buyer, as the CDs are not at all easy to browse, and the guy in charge didn't seem very knowledgeable about what they had OR how to find it. This is the best store in Pasadena.. and one of the best in all of Los Angeles. Great, currated selection of all sorts of vinyls. What can I say about this place...well a lot but let's keep it short and to the point. First off they are very inconsistent with pricing. For example they have $30 records for sale at $100 and $100 records for sale at $30. I've definitely been able to take advantage and grab some records they mis-priced so I thank them for that. They mis represent pressings and condition and don't own up to it. They describe a record as VG+ or very clean but when I physically look at it, it's covered in scratches and marks. I once made a comment about it and they stood by their VG+ grading. So several feel-able scratches that tic is clean? Sure.... There are two owners I believe. The woman is the nicer one. They seem to be heavily interested in African records for some reason. Pasadena is an interesting choice to have a shop and primarily deal with African or Jamaican records. They don't seem to be flying off the shelves lol. All in all not a place you should go out of your way to check out. read more

So I know of 4 days you guys aren't gonna be buying C.Ds. Might want to change the "every day" to whenever the buyer comes in.
