I am extremely happy with the work that Sustainable provided. Alex came out, walked my property with me, listened to my concerns, gave me suggestions, gave me the extremely affordable quote and we were added to the schedule. Due to all the rain we got in August, we had to be rescheduled several times. Alex, always communicated the date changes with me, and made sure the new dates were agreeable, all while apologizing for the delays. When the day came, rain was in the forecast, yet again. Alex and his team, still showed up. I asked to add another tree to the job, that wasn't in the original quote, but that I realized should have been, and Alex, added it to the work load without hesitation. It unfortunately started to rain, but they stayed and completed the job anyway. Clean up was great. They picked up all branches, raked leaves and even added soil, grass seed and straw to areas where the weight of the bucket truck left marks, due to the ground being so soft, because of all the rain. I'd like to note, that they did put down plywood to help absorb the weight of the truck, it was just something that couldn't be helped in a couple areas, and they made sure to mend it, prior to leaving my property. Lastly, later in the evening, I noticed that there were two rather larger branches that I wanted cut, but didn't notice while the guys were still at my home. I emailed Alex to see what could be done, feeling that technically, I should have done a more thorough walk around prior to them leaving. Alex responded that he wanted my guaranteed satisfaction, and he would send the guys back out to take care of the branches. They came 3 days later! I HIGHLY recommend Sustainable Home & Yard, and we will absolutely be using them again in the future. read more

Alex and his crew were absolutely AMAZING! We had 5 trees that needed to be removed. Two were centuries old, very tall oak trees that were diseased and inflicted with fungus. Another was a massive entanglement of multiple old mulberry trees that covered our house. This job required 2 cranes and multiple bucket trucks! Our neighbors were also in complete awe at how well they handled this HUGE job! Alex's communication was great. He stayed in contact with me before, and during and after. Even when one of the crane parts broke (Massive old trees will get you!), he kept me updated. He and his crew were extremely professional, efficient and fast. Their cleanup was done so well that they left the street looking better than when they started! I was overjoyed at the job Alex and his crew had done! I would HIGHLY recommend Shy Tree to anyone for any of their tree care needs. read more

We were referred to Alex and Shy Tree by a friend in our neighborhood and couldn't have been happier with the whole process. From the first point of contact to schedule an estimate through the completion of our job, Alex and his team were easy to work with and very professional. We have and would recommend him to our friends and family. We had two trees to take down near a power line along with a lot of pruning and dead branch removal plus cabling a split tree. Everything was done over the course of two days. They left our yard in great shape with all debris removed and the spider lift barely left any tracks. Added bonus was that our 5 year old got to watch all the action from our windows with her grandparents. Thank you Alex and Team! read more

This is not a reflection on Shy Tree's work, because...we didn't hire them. Why then? The quote was $4000. That was $2300 MORE than the HIGHEST quote we received from three other licensed and insured businesses (whose quotes varied with a delta of a little over a $100). Jerry's response to my surprise was: it's a lot of work. Indeed it is, as it would be for the other companies. I'm very thankful I had those current proposals (as well as years of tree maintenance fees from the past) in my pocket. And looking through the reviews, it looks like this isn't the first time an oh-my-god quote has been given (and I do hope that the folks who thought the prices were fair, did indeed receive a fair price.) read more

Alex and his crew come highly recommended by me. Once Alex provided his very reasonable estimate to trim and prune overgrown mature maples, hollies, a honey locust and more, we found a date for the work to be done. Alex made himself available for questions and initiated contact when needed. His professionalism matched with his friendly personality made it easy to choose his company to do our work. He and 3 others (also friendly and professional) arrived close to 9:30am and worked throughout the day until almost 4:30pm. Except for a better looking yard, you would never know that they had been here. If you need work done by someone who knows trees, you won't go wrong by using Sustainable Home and Yard. read more

We hired Alex Shy for a very large job in August 2020, to remove 18 trees and 33 stumps to be exact. In fact, he said we were most likely his largest job ever! Alex scheduled his work within 3 weeks of his estimate and the actual job was completed within a few days. He and his crew did a wonderful job removing all the trees, was very knowledgable and friendly as well. His quote was very reasonable considering all the trees and stumps we had removed. I have recommended Shy Tree to literally all of our friends and family and several have ended up using him! We are happy we chose Shy Tree for our tree removal needs and are glad to have supported a small family-owned business! read more

I had a huge Maple Tree that had been destroyed by insects from within the tree. A huge wind storm came by and snapped it in half. Part of it was laying on the ground and the other half was leaning dangerously towards the Neighbor's homes. I called Shy Tree up, Alex Shy came out, took pictures, which I sent off to insurance. They did a wonderful job cutting the tree down. It only took them one day to remove the entire tree and hall it off to the dump. The are a very reputable company and I would recommend them for any tree services you need. Donald G. read more

Can't say enough about Alex and his crew. I've worked with Shy Tree several times over the past year, and will continue to do so. Alex and his crew take pride in their work, and really know what they are doing. I don't write reviews at all, but felt compelled to write this in hopes that it reaches others in need of tree service like I was. Extremely professional, punctual, well organized, and they will go the extra mile to ensure you're 100% satisfied. Alex and his guys have been an overall pleasure to work with. read more

Used Shy Tree several times for large/multiple tree(s) removal. Punctual, excellent performance and results. Extremely professional, reasonable prices and well equipped, safety conscious crews. Taken down large trees in very tight spots, along property lines without any damage or problems. Always cleanup any leaves and debris. I have only done a handful of reviews in my life. However, Alex, Casey and their crews deserve the credit for setting the gold standard in tree maintenance and removal! read more

Had a tree overgrowing my neighbors house and needed it cut down. Unfortunately, i was out of town and would not be back for a while. They were willing to work with me remotely and offered several different quotes depending on what I wanted done. Where happy to work with my neighbor as well to insure he was happy with their work. The work was done quickly and efficiently. My neighbor let me know they were fast and courteous and did exactly what was needed. Would strongly Recommend! read more

The crew that came out with Jerry in the ice and snow were timely, efficient, and very professional. The pricing for two tree removals and two tree crownings were good. We were a little worried about the parts hanging over the house, but these were handled cleanly with their bucket truck. Interactions with the secretary at the office were friendly and informative. I love working with businesses with a family, Mom and Pop, feel that conduct themselves professionally. read more

We have a tree that is infected with fire blight. I searched for tree companies with a certified Arborist, and settled on Shy Tree for it's positive ratings. Alex came out and applied Cambistat to slow the tree's growth so new shoots do not succumb to the blight, and it allows the tree to focus it's energy on fighting the blight. Alex and Casey were a real pleasure to work with. They were friendly and professional, and the price was quite reasonable. read more

Highly recommend Shy Tree. I had a dead tree in the middle of the deck in my backyard. They came up with multiple approaches to tackle the problem and prioritized my best interests. They were able to remove the tree in one day with no damage to anything, and cleaned everything up when they finished. They also gave me a reasonable price. Alex and his crew are great at what they do. If you need a tree removed, call Shy Tree. read more

Excellent service and on schedule even in these difficult times. The service included removing a 40 foot limb from my maple tree that was hanging into the neighbors yard and nearly over the rear of their home. The limb was removed and the neighbors home was top consideration and no damage was sustained. The cleanup was thorough and complete. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication. Shy Tree did a great job taking out one dead tree, and also a Maple in our back yard which was a danger to our home and our pets. The tree was splitting and needed to be removed. The owner, Alex, went out of his way to make sure that we were satisfied with the work. They are very professional and I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing a tree service. read more

We had an ash tree succumb to the ash borer. Alex knew exactly what had killed our tree. It was fascinating to watch as they took down our tree in an awkward spot in our yard (where 2 fence lines met.) He also diagnosed our sick birch tree and will be back in the spring to try to bring it back to health. Would recommend Alex as he is also a Certified Arborist. read more
