************Changing my review of Boutique 1861…read more I originally gave this company a 1 out of 5 stars, due to a situation, which I've detailed below. Now, I'm giving this company a 4 out of 5 stars because I've spoken to the Manager of the boutique and I'm quite satisfied with our discussion. I will place an order with them in the future and once I've done that I will further update this post to reflect my experience. ********************************************************************************** I really wanted to like this company. Their dresses look beautiful and I was truly very excited to get my new dress in the mail. I've read that they come in these beautiful boxes and that their clothes are really quite nice. So I don't comment on their clothes, because I didn't get mine. But I can comment on their costumer service. I had purchased a dress on Sunday (Easter Sunday) and by Tuesday I was sent a text message that my purchase had shipped (whoohoo!). On Wednesday I thought I'd check to see how far along it had come but the Canada Post # was incorrect (I put it into the Canada Post tracking field and it said that the # was wrong). So I spoke with Melanie about it and she said that they actually didn't have my dress anymore and that they had made a mistake. I was super disappointed because: A) They charged my credit card B) They sent me a faulty Canada Post tracking number C) And I had to contact them three days after my order to get this information (They say the dress will take 1-5 business days to get to your address). When I asked for a discount code on a future purchase (because I was still interested in trying the company out) they said no. I was a little confused because this was truly their mistake and as a new costumer, I thought they would be more sympathetic. Anyways, I've uploaded the entire conversation thread to this review. You can read it for yourself. Oh and at the end of the conversation, a new rep comes into the conversation, Miriam. She says that there is nothing we can do and actually they require 1-3 days to box the item and then it gets shipped out. Which doesn't make any sense because why was I sent a shipping # at all then? Instead, I was sent a shipping number and as a result, I assumed (like most people would) that their order was on its way. Unsatisfied costumer.

Cool little shop on St Catherine pretty sure it used to be in the mall under the movie theater but…read moreI could be wrong. The store it's self has a really great vibe and nice girls working there. They do have a website but it's not the best so always best to come on by or even call if you have something in mind. What caught my eye today was the Barbie in the lingerie never seen a sexy Barbie before I'm for it. Hope to see more fun store front creations on my next passing by.

First i need to clarify that I made my purchase online so I cannot comment as to the in store…read moreexperience. However I was so impressed with the online experience I had to write a review anyways. So first I was very excited that the dress I was interested in was available in plus sizes - i used the sizing chart and because I was inbetween I sized up deciding if I needed to I would get it altered. if I didn't like it I could send it back because they have a solid return policy. I ordered the dress on a Thursday morning, paid for standard shipping and assumed it would arrive sometime next week since I live in Alberta. Imagine my shock when it arrived the NEXT DAY. Opened it up and everything was beautifully wrapped in ribbon with a beautiful note to boot. The dress is gorgeous - it will definitely need some hemming but I could not be more thrilled. I 100% will be buying from here again.

I went Sunday Oct 6th with my bridesmaids to look at wedding dresses & bridesmaids dresses. The…read moredresses are beautiful and well priced. but the lack of customer service made the experience less enjoyable. I found a few staff members had attitude. I was ready to drop over 1000.00$ for my wedding dress & 5 brides maid dresses and they didn't seem to care. waiting almost 25 minutes to check out, and the cashier wanted to give me the sample dress without a garnet bag... the dress was worn multiple times and not so white anymore. I asked if I could get a new one as she rolled her eyes and walked away to get a brand new one. again the prices are good, just don't have high expectation for customer service.

I heard a rumor that different Fripe-Prix Renaissance locations receives their goods from areas…read morevery close to them and that the one on Wellington Avenue in Verdun gets a lot of their goods from things are are dropped off in Westmount. I can believe it. Here's a quick list of cool, vintage and even designer items I have found at this Fripe-Prix Renaissance. Le Creuset Enameled Dutch Oven, new, brown, unused with the sticker still on it. Retail price: $250 FPR price: $5 Le Creuset enameled cast iron frying pan, white, in near mint condition Retail price: $150 FPR price: $5 Azzedine Alaia sweater, navy blue, slightly used, no holes, no stains, Made in Italy, 100% wool Retail Price: $2000+ FPR price: $7 Aquascutum navy blue trench coat, never worn and still had the tags attached Made in Great Britain, 100% wool Retail price: $2000+ FPR price: $35 1960s/70s era Chrome General Electric, round tea kettle On ebay: $100 FPR price: $7 I have also found Italian Merino wool sweaters for $7, large heavy, metal decorative mirror in sunburst design $12, ceramic clay plant pots for 50 cents, 1970's Viking Blender for $7 with metal machine parts, not the stupid breakable plastic kind they have nowadays, home yogurt making machine, Depression-era glass goblets in ruby or cobalt blue, Calvin Klein and Banana Republic hoodies, giant snap-top jars for keeping dried foodstuffs for $1, complete book series of Harry Potter and A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones), foldable IKEA garden table $5 and a whole slew of other stuff. You get the idea. Mind you I didn't just stop in here once or twice and happen to get all this cool stuff. I walk by this place practically everyday on my way to the metro so I usually get in a chance to duck in and have a quick look around. That and having a trained eye towards quality goods will eventually land you something if you're persistent enough. I really dislike the disposable, throw-away aspect of our culture and there really is truth that one person's junk can be another person's treasure. Plus Fripe-Prix Renaissance's mission is about helping persons who are usually disadvantaged get some skills and build up the confidence to stand on their own. Shopping here is just a win-win situation for everybody.
