************Changing my review of Boutique 1861 I originally gave this company a 1 out of 5 stars, due to a situation, which I've detailed below. Now, I'm giving this company a 4 out of 5 stars because I've spoken to the Manager of the boutique and I'm quite satisfied with our discussion. I will place an order with them in the future and once I've done that I will further update this post to reflect my experience. ********************************************************************************** I really wanted to like this company. Their dresses look beautiful and I was truly very excited to get my new dress in the mail. I've read that they come in these beautiful boxes and that their clothes are really quite nice. So I don't comment on their clothes, because I didn't get mine. But I can comment on their costumer service. I had purchased a dress on Sunday (Easter Sunday) and by Tuesday I was sent a text message that my purchase had shipped (whoohoo!). On Wednesday I thought I'd check to see how far along it had come but the Canada Post # was incorrect (I put it into the Canada Post tracking field and it said that the # was wrong). So I spoke with Melanie about it and she said that they actually didn't have my dress anymore and that they had made a mistake. I was super disappointed because: A) They charged my credit card B) They sent me a faulty Canada Post tracking number C) And I had to contact them three days after my order to get this information (They say the dress will take 1-5 business days to get to your address). When I asked for a discount code on a future purchase (because I was still interested in trying the company out) they said no. I was a little confused because this was truly their mistake and as a new costumer, I thought they would be more sympathetic. Anyways, I've uploaded the entire conversation thread to this review. You can read it for yourself. Oh and at the end of the conversation, a new rep comes into the conversation, Miriam. She says that there is nothing we can do and actually they require 1-3 days to box the item and then it gets shipped out. Which doesn't make any sense because why was I sent a shipping # at all then? Cool little shop on St Catherine pretty sure it used to be in the mall under the movie theater but I could be wrong. The store it's self has a really great vibe and nice girls working there. They do have a website but it's not the best so always best to come on by or even call if you have something in mind. What caught my eye today was the Barbie in the lingerie never seen a sexy Barbie before I'm for it. Hope to see more fun store front creations on my next passing by. read more

Boutique 1861 - So cute - Women's Clothing Near Me - Montreal, Quebec

Boutique 1861 is a Montreal-based clothing boutique store that is owned by Castle Ho. When you step inside the store, you can see the Marie Antoinette-era/boudoir-inspired decor, from the colors, the furniture, as well as the frilly/girly tops, sweaters, and dresses. I especially liked their tops, as I am a huge fan of ruffles - the cut and the design is really pretty and would be great with a sweater/cardigan ensemble. I purchased a really cute bag from Matt & Nat here, a Montreal-based vegan line of purses - the store had a really nice selection and a variety, so check them out. Any purchases come with a lovely reusable store bag, so that was super awesome! I ordered from them for my semi formal and the dress came in 3 days it arrived today and I loved it but it was too big and I messaged them asking how to make an exchange and they almost answered right away and gave me step by step instructions and were very nice. I applied for return and they approved it right away and I was able to order the same dress in a smaller size for no charge and all I have to do is ship the original order back. Overall I just thought that they were the sweetest and I love the dress I got and I can't wait for it to come, plus the packaging is adorable. read more

I won't write much here because as a (non-crossdessing) male, I don't need any of the clothes at this store. However, I came by with my girlfriend who was enamered with the clothing offered. I found the pieces she tried to be truly elegant and well priced. The atmosphere is also wonderful and the staff is super friendly so I had no issues hanging out on the couch in "boyfriend mode" while she tried on outfits. It's just a great little shop. Discovering Boutique 1861 was amazing for my wardrobe, but not so much for my wallet. When I close my eyes and imagine heaven it looks quite like this little shop located in one of Montreal's many shopping districts--gorgeous dresses line the walls, while feminine accents add beauty and flare to the unique boutique. Not to mention, everything is so pretty. SO PRETTY! Plus the staff were super sweet. The one girl, I wish I got her name, was so helpful when I was trying to find a specific dress that I saw on their website. It was sold out of this location but available on Saint-Laurent. She offered to have one held for me, but I didn't have much time and so I declined the offer. However, I couldn't stop thinking about the dress and ended up at the second location anyway, which was just as beautiful though a little more chaotic than this one. I think I preferred this location. Not only are the dresses special, but they're reasonably priced. I will likely find myself here every time I visit Montreal...though the girl did mention they ship to Toronto, which means my budget might be in trouble... read more

This boutique was basically my dream store. I wanted everything they had. I tried on about 8 dresses and bought 3 Of them. I could have bought more if someone else was paying ;-) Nice salespeople, cute store, great bags and tissue paper to hold your purchases. read more

I really like their clothing here. Their store displays always suck me in. Too bad I'm on a pattern/print/statement piece thing this year, because if not, I'd find a lot of cool solids and warm knits to wear. Very simple, pretty, nice looking bags, and of a higher quality than their Razberry store down the street. Jewellery is also really pretty, but in the $100+ range!! read more

I visited this store over the past summer, and I cannot even get over how cutesy, adorable, charming...and yeah you get the point, that this store is. This store has everything nailed down to the actual inventory to the decor. It gives off a very feminine, vintage, Parisian-like vibe. The only problem? What else? It's pricey, but totally worth it, seeing all the unique pieces! It was also super crowded when I was there, and I, of course, understand why! If I'm ever back in the Montreal area again, this will earn a stop (or hopefully one will open in NYC soon!). read more

Boutique 1861 is not a pleasant shopping experience if you have curves. I went to look for a cocktail dress and could not find a single item that would fit my chest or hips. But the real trouble I had with this experience was with the employee I spoke with. When I left the fitting room without any items, this employee I asked if "everything was too small for me." Additionally, when I asked for assistance finding a dress that would suit my figure, the employee said "Some of our long dresses come in really big sizes like 4XL." An employee working at a boutique that carries women's clothing should know how to communicate with women in a respectful and sensitive way. This experience made dress shopping, which should be a fun and exciting time, really unpleasant and vulnerable. I ask that Boutique 1861 not only trains their employees in effective and thoughtful communication, but also expands their sizing that represents people of all body types. read more

I've ordered sooo much off of Boutique 1861 over the years. They have beautiful, well made products that I obsess over, but more than that is their amazing customer service. My stuff always comes faster than they promise, and I appreciate that shipping to me in Ontario is always just $5. The packaging is way above and beyond anything I've ever received - including personalized notes EVERY time about how good I'll look in whichever items I bought and where I can wear them. They are wrapped in precious paper and ribbon, and I've even had measurement tapes and sizing how-tos included (for free) as well. The boxes are taped in a beautiful pink tape resembling lace. It's honestly an experience just to order from them. Thanks for making me feel so valued every. Single. Time. You guys are the best! read more

I emailed the shop specifically asking if they ship to Ireland and got a lovely response very quickly. I then went to place my order the week after and couldn't select Ireland so I emailed them again and they said they actually do not ship to ireland and made no effort to help. read more

Not only was there a unique selection of fun and feminine clothes at reasonable prices, but the two girls that helped us were adorable and very helpful. They brought us clothes that they thought we would like and that fit our body with a smile, making it an all around wonderful shopping experience! This store needs to open up in NYC! read more

Do not order a bridesmaid dress from this company. Terrible quality, terrible customer service, 100% regret purchasing. Zero responsibility for defective dresses, zero help offered to their customers who need to get a dress altered because it was sent defective, zero chance I will ever ever ever spend another dollar at this store. I am in a wedding party of 8 women. We all ordered the Tiziana dress from Boutique 1861 in Burgundy. It fit everyone like a dream, the colour and silhouette was beautiful - I was showing pictures to everyone, raving about the company and its beautiful dresses. I spent a few months travelling abroad, and just a few weeks ago finally got my hands on the dress. We had ordered a dress the previous year for everyone to try on, so I knew that this dress would be perfect on my body, knew my size, etc. I tried on the dress the other day to gauge if I would need any alterations done, and I notice that one side of the top of the dress is sewn under - making the entire top twist in a very ugly and asymmetrical way. I look under the dress, and see that whoever had sewn the dress had slipped with the sewing machine/fallen asleep at the machine/who knows. The dress is discontinued at this point, and the wedding is in November 2019 (2 months from now). Seeing the stitches, I knew that the dress could be fixed by a seamstress. Because the dress was sent to me defective, I contacted the company to see if there was any way they could help me (cover the cost of the alterations, allow me to send the dress back to them for fixing, etc.) I paid $200 for the dress as pictured on the website, the same dress that everyone else received in perfect condition. I understand that accidents do happen, but when you are advertising a product a certain way and charging a decent amount for it, you have to deliver that product to the customer, and take accountability when you send out a product that is defective. Did their quality control team fall asleep as well?! I contacted customer service, and because I was contacting them outside of their 30-day return policy, they could do absolutely NOTHING for me. They couldn't even cover the $39 alteration fee that I was quoted from a local alterations company. They went all the way to "speak with the president," and still told me that there was nothing they could do. I explained that I had been travelling out of the country for a few months, and just got my hands on the dress. They basically said "too bad, once the dress has left our hands, and it is past 30 days, it is the customer's responsibility." Absolutely zero ownership, pride, or accountability in their product. I have to spend more money to get the dress that I was supposed to get in the first place. Honestly, save your money. Being in a bridal party is stressful enough without having to beg a company for a couple dollars to repair a dress that they sent to you defective. I am sick about this whole thing. I understand if I had said "oh I don't like it, I'd like to return it" - that's when the 30 day policy should kick in. But they are sending out defective products and claiming that they are not responsible for their screw up outside of 30 days. It is wrong! Oh and the kicker is that I am maid of honour in another wedding, and was about to purchase 8 additional dresses from this company, plus a maid of honour dress. Like I said, they have lost me as a customer and I will be telling every bride, maid of honour, bridesmaid about the awful customer service, and awful dress quality from now until the end of time. I wish I could add photos to this post so that you could see how truly f-ed up my dress is. read more

I found some pieces I have been looking from bb Dakota, nasty gal, style stalker which I usually get from karmaloop. And it is usually way more expensive here. So sometimes I go in just to try something I like and then hunt it on the web. It sounds terrible especially that the girl working there now is sooo nice. She used to work at Betsy Johnson and she is absolutely lovely and she has amazing tastes. read more

Beautiful vintage inspired clothing. Lots of flowy feminine chic items. Bought a pair of pale lavender/gray slacks with a built in tan mini belt that was off center, with soft pleats down the front. Really amazing, elegant and unique. Prices were actually pretty reasonable. The most expensive things in the store were about 90 dollars, while most items are about 20-40 dollars. If you're looking for stylish one of a kind clothes, you should visit this shop. I'm from NYC and will be sad not to be able to shop here in the future. They have a website but it is a mere "glimpse" of the stock in the store. read more

Called in as recommended on their website to make sure a certain dress was in the store, but was not. They would transfer the dress from their other store and call back when it was in. I waited over a week to hear from them and called back. Unfortunately the salespeople are not well trained and did not have a clue about how to do a transfer. When we finally went in to try the dress, it was more confusion and poor training of staff who were all young and even rude. This sort of store is alright for the young, but not for those who know better. In the end we did not buy anything there, left, never to return again. read more

I looked everywhere online for a destination wedding dress and finally found a place right in my own backyard in Montreal! I loved the dresses online but they are even more gorgeous in real life. Yes the prices are amazing and for the person who didn't like the quality, I'm sorry but I really didn't see any problem at all. I went to the Boutique then up to the Wedding Boudoir then back down to the Boutique. I don't have an easy body to fit but found my dream dress and it fits perfect. I am absolutely thrilled and can't wait to get married on the beach in Costa Rica!!!! read more

The dress I received in the mail fit perfectly. It was exactly how it looked online and was well made. They sent it wrapped in wrapping paper and even had a hand written note with it. I highly recommend buying from this store if you want a well made, beautiful dress for any occasion. read more

1861 is by far my favorite store in all of downtown Montreal. The chic boutique offers jaw dropping fashion items at affordable prices. It is the perfect mix of known luxury brands and new designers so you know you'll leave with unique pieces. The stores owner, the beautiful Castle Ho, also doubles as a stylist and will dress you to the nines. The boutique gets in new arrivals every 2 days so it is the perfect shopping destination for date dresses, cocktail parties, if you're simply looking for a cozy sweater, a sparkly accessory or you're in need of some retail therapy. read more
