From the outside it doesn't look glamorous or inviting but don't judge a book by its cover, this is a treasure trove of wonderful vintage clothes and jewellery for men and woman as well as baby clothes and toys and accessories. You can spend a few hours rummaging through and it's an experience in itself

What a hidden treasure. Our wandering adventures led us to this awesome eclectic vintage thrift store with a full blown cafe in it. Yes, I'm talking about Cafe Eva B in Montreal. As we were walking, we happen to notice this completely off the wall decorated façade on this building, which caught our attention. Curiosity totally got the best of us and we decided to check it out. What a find. Not inly do they have two stories of amazing vintage clothing, but they had the cutest and most cost-effective café in all of Montreal. While the coffee wasn't the best in all of Canada, it was perfect and cheap. Don't forget to try their chocolate chip cookies and their vegan cookies (which was more like a rich and moist brownie). Interesting knicknacks at the thrift store

If you can get over the grungy exterior, there are lots of interesting finds at a great price! Shirts and dresses from $3 to 10+. There was a mink fur coat for $60!

Thrift shop with a super funky & border-line creepy aesthetic! There are 3 floors of super vintage & thrifted clothes, Knick knacks, & homeware that are super neat to shop through. Walking in, they offer free bags of seasoned popcorn and shot glasses of lemonade. If you have a big backpack though, they'll ask you to leave it at their free coat check. On the first-floor they have VERY vintage women's clothing & accessories, a cafe, and an enclosed outdoor patio. The second floor has men's vintage clothes. My favourite was their third floor. It had more modern styles & brands for women's thrifted clothes (ranging from $3-$9), a change room, & interesting houseware & textiles. It was extremely hot in the summer, so not the most comfortable to shop in. But I would definitely revisit Eva B. for a thrift trip!

My first impression was that this is a very cool place. It was busy and there was lots to look at. I was very impressed by how inexpensive the food and coffee menu was. Best value I've found in Montreal for sure. That said, the cappuccino was gross. It had a very strange aftertaste. I did enjoy the samosa and the food I saw other people eating looked yummy. I checked out some clothes, but wished there were more full length mirrors. Lots of small mirrors all around but they were pretty dingy. Staff were friendly.

Eva B is the strangest and most bizzare store I have ever set foot in in my entire life. And believe me, when it comes to shopping, I've been around, lol. It's a thrift store and looks a little bit like the grungy thrift stores in Kensington Market (Toronto) like Courage My Love and Exile circa early 1990's, but on steroids and psychedelic drugs. The pictures do not do this place justice, you need to see it for yourself. There are mannequins and mannequin parts strewn all over the place, hanging from the ceiling by chains, coming through the ceiling (see pic), jutting out from walls, etc. Some are painted bright colours, some of the mannequin parts are adorned with bondage accessories. There are old vintage sewing machines and parts everywhere too. The place looks like an old garment factory that was taken over by a former circus troupe with hoarding tendencies. Vintage knick knacks everywhere. There was a giant stuffed bear on a hammock suspended from the ceiling. Chairs from some old theatre. Everything was so random. I did find it a bit funky smelling in there though. The place also has a touch of creepiness to it, at least to me it did. I kept thinking of those CSI shows while I was in the store (you know, where they find a body in the Garment District and then hunt down the killer who turns out to be an eccentric fashion designer and the camera pans out to his private studio and... it looks like the third floor of Eva B?! Lol). As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly staff person who offered me free hot cider and asked me if it was my first time there. I said it was, and she welcomed me and told me the store has 3 storeys and has been around for 30 years. She also offered me free popcorn. The store is full of vintage items and some more modern things too. The clothes selection appeared to me to be "anything goes." I saw true quality vintage alongside fast fashion pieces from Zara. You need a lot of time and patience to sift through everything. And although the place is large, it's crowded because it's very popular. It's also a cafe. They sell drinks, pastries and light meals. The outside does not look like a storefront. Had I not been specifically looking for it by address, I would have assumed it was an abandoned property that graffiti artists got their hands on, and would have walked right by it. There was no sign that I could see. This is probably why I didn't know this place existed while I was living in Montreal (which was way before social media). This place is so unique, unusual, and strange that I have to give it 5 stars!

$1 espresso

Almost passed right by this place on my way to the Old Port. Glad I stopped in to see what's up. At first glance, a used clothing store with free lemonade. On second glance, also the cheapest coffee shop in town. $1 including tax for a single espresso, prepared in a charming fashion. Add in huge homemade cookies for $1 and we're already at 5*. I walked to the back with my espresso and found the cutest dog lounging on the couch. He was happy to have a friend. Then a random girl sat down and played a bit at the piano. Awesome vibe to chill for a bit during a busy weekend. Came back again and asked the older gentlemen that works there, perhaps the owner, when they close. "Whenever... the fuck... I want!" Amazing. Six stars for this place.

This thrift store is so unique and HUGE! there are 3 main levels with mini levels on each floor. You can also purchase little snacks while you shop. However, be prepared to feel overwhelmed here because the store feels never ending. Also, it's very hard to tell if any items are on sale because they are not marked very well. The shoes are probably the most well organized and marked by type. I really appreciated this. As an avid thrifter, I was disappointed to see that the majority of the prices were still extremely "expensive" for a thrift store. However, I would say this reflected the quality of the items. The ambiance was just slightly overwhelming. Also, many of the clothes hang on a swinging sort of clothes line. This is so unique and artsy, but it makes it difficult to have a steady hand while searching through the racks. Tip: if you go here, bring more money than you would think to bring, and be ready to spend a lot of time here!

Okay, so yes, this is such a fun place to wander (literally three stories of randomness), but what IM focused on are the cookies. Those cookies are a damn necessity. Seriously. They are by far the best cookies I've ever had in my life. I've literally begged three friends traveling to Montreal to bring them back for me. If i could, I'd travel back to the city for those alone. Don't miss them. Please. For all of our sakes.

THE LITTLE SHOP Open WedThursSat 2-5pm and sun noon-3pm…read more1002 Ogilvy (one street east of L'Acadie, one street north of JeanTalon) I first started shopping at The Little Shop over 30 years ago. It was a treasure trove during my rockabilly time: crinolines, bustiers, polka dot scarves, pointy kitten heels. Working in the fashion industry, it was a great place to buy inspirational pieces in design, and fabrication. My house has gone thru many changes with buys from the shop: lace tablecloths, chintz curtains, mid-century prints, tiny bedside tables. The big draw was the owner Ann Silverstone. A warm and curious woman she always made you feel welcome. And she always had a story about a piece or about someone who had come into the shop. She knew everyone in theatre and film ( renting out clothing and housewares) and had a tear sheet at the ready to share with those she knew "in the business". When she passed it was hard to go to the shop. One always expected to see her in her chair sorting thru her latest finds. But I did go back. I couldn't pass up those great items she had found. I am happy to say that the shop is thriving under the management of her daughter, Jill. And Ann's constant aid and companion, Phyllis, is also still "in the house'. You are still treated to tea and cookies in the afternoon. And you get stories on the old and new acquisitions. The clothes and hats and house linens have a little more organization. It was daunting to some on where to start. And the prices are still good (The prices are fair for their provenance ). There are kids clothes and dolls, sequinned jackets and vests, a room filled with lace and crochet, vintage ski sweaters and tweed jackets, shoes and hats and gloves, boxes and vases and books, buttons and pins and glasses, and friendly people with interesting stories to tell. It's still the best adventure in the city!

Kept carefully secret for…read moredecades, and now only open few hours a day on a few days a week, when you come here please move carefully and slow and know that you are on some sacred old school Montreal hallowed ground. The Little Shop is tucked in an old Parc Ex residential duplex, the only sign there is a wonder world in here is the demurely open door a few afternoons a week. The collections fill every single room of the mainfloor, basement and second floor apartments. And I do mean collections: there is material behind this quiet, gritty, working class frontage for a massive fashion, fibres and collectibles history museum. A room devoted to antique lace? Midlength cocktail dresses? Picture frames? Crates of hundreds of vintage eyeglasses, bowties, bakelite, turn of the century hats, 100 year old Spanish hand embroidery? Yes, all of this and more. Though it's overwhelming, like every secondhand and vintage store you've seen has sucked and tucked the best of themselves into tight corners of this one building out of a sheer undeniable desire to be together, there is order. For example, a wall of carefully folded quilts greets you when you walk in, including beautiful historic pieces usually only seen in museums and in movies... Because the secret of the Little Shop is this: it's the private, professional renters that are it's original appointment-only clientele. The Cirque du Soleil comes here to rent costumes and set dressings, the McCord and other museums borrow from here to fill out exhibits, the Spiderwick Chronicles created rich fantasy worlds out of the goods hidden in the Little Shop. And they are often hidden: apparently props people are notorious for hiding their finds amidst the dusty bounty... and the staff laugh tolerantly when they find a room that's been tossed, as they begin the Sysiphian work of re-establishing order. The owner is kind, and incredibly wise about the history and value of her goods, generous in spirit with the young vintage kids who come find her these days, even the couture kids who dig and dig and leave with the same old brand name things. She is carrying on a tradition inherited from a generation before: truly brave, creative, inspiring parents who carefully opened their vast hearts to artists and cultures and taught generations of Montrealers about the stories and true blood and sweat values in these goods. Take a minute to have tea with the cool people hanging out there, if you're lucky enough to be offered one, and you'll be overwhelmed with stories of great Montrealers like Hugh MacLennan, you'll find out you're sitting next to a master laceworker, and you'll get a glimpse of a special beating heart that belongs only to this town.
