Treatment plan for 5 cavities, none of which were truly there.
Dylan R.

I am disgusted by the way this dental office has behaved in its dealings with me. I came in as a new patient for a cleaning in late December 2024. Before coming in, I explained that I was paying out of pocket and asked for a price quote. The office quoted me $160 for the exam and cleaning, plus $10 per x-ray. The day I came in, I was informed that prices had changed and that the cleaning would now cost significantly more than the amount to which I had agreed. After some negotiations where I explained that I had received a quote by email, and that I wouldn't accept a higher price, the office attendant agreed to let me get the cleaning for $160. However, she insisted that the x-rays would cost more than $10 each, and that a $20 fee would be added "because the dentist needs time to look at your x-ray results." I declined getting the x-rays and settled for the cleaning and exam. This was the first red flag, but things soon took a turn for the worse. After the cleaning was over, the dentist informed me that I had five (5!) cavities. I was shocked, as I have never had more than one cavity at a time, and rarely at that. This further triggered my suspicion. On the way out, I was handed a "treatment plan" which proposed filling all five cavities and would cost me nearly $800. I have attached an image of it. On the recommendation of a friend, I went to 209 NYC Dental, a much more reputable office, which did an exam on me about a month later and found that I had ZERO cavities. (also attached) The dentist explained to me that I had a few stains in the grooves of my teeth, but that a simple test that involves poking a dental pick into the grooves to check for stickiness proved that these were not cavities. I was shocked at the patent lack of ethics at Shu Ping Rong, but not surprised. Five cavities was simply too many to be believable. Deeply unethical business practices like these not only cost patients money, but also contribute stress and worry to their lives as they anticipate long and painful procedures that are entirely unnecessary. And if the diagnosis I received was the result of incompetence (an inability to distinguish stains from cavities) rather than malice, that's equally unacceptable. Shame, shame, shame on this office. Head to another dental office that will go against its short-term financial interests to be honest with you and tell you that you don't need treatment when that's the case. It's worth the higher price in the long run.

Area for patients to check in!

Found this place by clicking on a Yelp Ad actually. Lived in LES and didn't know such a highly rated dentist was a few blocks down in Chinatown. Had a cavity filled here, and of course been here for several cleanings. You don't see Dr Shu Ping every time though. I saw her after my cleaning today though and she's soooo sweet and very thorough. Possibility to see someone different every time though. Once I only saw a male. Only thing that's bothered me - One time last year they called to confirm my appointment and it was just for a cleaning and they said "confirming appt for an tooth extraction" and I was like GIRL NOOOO. She insisted it was for me. And I had never agreed or needed any teeth pulled at all in my adult life so they need to be aware of their records being correct. Could be a big problem if not corrected in the future. But looking at that as just something off putting and a mistake that happened, I still come here even though I moved to Gramercy because this place is great :-) Also ASHLEY is the best dental assistant ever. Omg. She did my cleaning today and I told her I didn't want to get an X-ray today and she didn't pressure me but made sure to explain all my options. Love you Ashley! And of course thanks to Yelp for helping me find this office in a sea of highly reviewed dentists.

This is the worst, most unethical, and least professional dental clinic I have ever been to. I came here last Monday to get my teeth cleaned. I originally just wanted to see a tooth that had been filled. I went there after 2:40 and had to wait for an hour. I told the dentist that I had a filled tooth that was not very comfortable and still felt very tight. I wanted to remove it and ask you to help me fill it again. The dentist told me that my insurance had already exploded on this tooth and I had to pay $70 myself. I said, let's have my teeth cleaned first and I'll think about it. After the teeth were cleaned, I told the dentist that my tooth was still not very comfortable. Could you help me see what the reason was? The dentist who cleaned my teeth hooked my teeth with a hook and said that my teeth were a little rough. If I wanted to make them smooth, I had to call a doctor and pay $70. Then I said yes, as long as he could fix it for me. I paid for it myself, and then the doctor was ready to check the tooth for me. She told me that a routine checkup would cost $70, and she kept emphasizing the $70 fee. It was obvious that if I didn't agree to pay $70, she wouldn't check my dentist. Then I agreed to pay and called the doctor. She told me where I had had this tooth filled before, and that it turned out that the doctor did it for free. I said, I have done it several times, but it's still tight, I want to remove it and fill it again, can you help me fix it? Then she took a hook, hooked my tooth, took a piece of dental floss and pulled it in the middle, and told me that there was no problem with the filling, it was normal, and she didn't need to do anything. I said, I ate some of the filling two weeks ago. West came out, and asked if she wanted to take an X-ray for me and help me to re-fill it. Then she said that the X-ray I took last time clearly showed that there was no problem with this tooth. She said that the thing that fell out was my own tooth. If I wanted to fill it, I had to make the hole bigger and fill it in. It was close to the dental tendon and I might have to pick the dental nerve. My tooth was not decayed, but the edge was missing a little. After filling it, she gave a professional analysis that I had to fill my tooth well, and the last step might be to pick the dental nerve. In the end, nothing was done to my tooth. My tooth was not smooth. I confirmed the payment and did not need to do anything. It was normal. It was just very vague and charged me $70. .On Thursday, I called in to ask for a refund. She said I had to wait for her to notify me.Maybe they think we are stupid. Is this a routine check-up? At first, they said that my toothache was covered by insurance, and I had to pay $70 for that tooth. Then they said that my teeth were indeed not smooth, and it would cost $70 to find a doctor to fix it. At the end, they said that the routine check-up would cost $70. Anyway, they wanted me to pay. I could only see the doctor if I paid, and I could not see him if I didn't pay. And the dentist who cleaned my teeth said that my teeth were a little rough, so I decided to find a doctor to help me. I confirmed the payment and found the doctor. The doctor said it was normal. One said it was not smooth and the other said it was normal. The two combined to deceive consumers to pay money and the dentist was unprofessional. Since the X-ray I took last time was fine, could it be that the dentist who cleaned my teeth couldn't even read X-rays? This dental clinic seems to be commercialized. It does not focus on dental technology, but only on charging. And the charges are very vague. The so-called routine check-up she checked one of my teeth, pulled the dental floss, and found that the filling was not close to the gum.The dentist who cleaned my teeth said that my teeth were indeed a little rough, so I paid the doctor to help me. After confirming and paying, it was confirmed that my teeth were normal and there was nothing to do. It was terrible. They worked together to deceive me.

Impressive // Detail Oriented Comfortable // Safe…read more Worried about a tooth? Do you have previous work that is failing? Have pain? Do you need a root canal?? Dr. Lazare saved my teeth!! Grateful for his dedication to the advancement of "restorative" Biomimetic Dentistry. For the Kids: I wish Dr. Lazare was my dentist when I was a kid!! I have been terrified of dentists for decades. I was the kid who hid under furniture and threatened to disown my family for taking me to the dentist. If only I had met Dr. Lazare. He is patient kind, he makes balloon animals! No really ask him. Tell him I told you to and that you found this review he will make you something special and smile. He LOVES helping kids, and so do his kids. Such a wonderful family. Lets just say... At Dr. Lazare's office I felt NO PAIN or anxiety every time I have come into his office and he has given me more than a handful of shots! How I found Dr. Lazare: When I met Dr. Lazare through family friends years ago he told me about biomimetic dentistry and how many teeth that are removed and replaced can be saved! I never forgot our conversation and the level of detail as to which he described cases. If you ever wanted to meet a Dental nerd this is your guy. Fast forward many years down the road when previous work failed and the word extraction/root canal and crown came up. The work in my opinion needed to be redone. I remembered my conversation with Dr Lazare and in spite of covid he fit me into their packed schedule. I could not be more grateful for Dr. Lazare and his staff. If I had waited 6 more months one of the molars that he saved would have needed a root canal and a crown. President Lazare: Congratulations Mark on being elected President of the Academy of Biomimetic Dentistry. #SavingTeeth2021 #PreventExctractions More information about Marc: https://www.aobmd.org/dentist/dr-marc-e-lazare-dds/ Covid times: When I arrived to the office staff were wearing masks, and appropriate measures were taken for social distancing. It seemed as though they staggered patients there was no one else in the waiting room at the time that I came. Procedures that I had: Comprehensive exam, X-rays, Biomimetic reconstruction for two teeth, Invisalign, and a temporary for a crown. As you can see in the photos Dr. Lazare uses a red dye to mark the decay and then works patiently to remove the decay and then rebuild the tooth. To say I am thrilled with his dedication to his craft and meticulous care would be putting it mildly. Staff: All staff seems to genuinely care for their patients. The woman who was assisting him during this process though a hygienist, was a dentist in her home country. Service with a smile knowing that miracles and magic are created here. Thank you everyone! So grateful. The Scene: Upbeat, Happy, Magic Destination Rating: 10 Date Rating: N/A Hob Nob Potential: N/A Strong Suggestion: Come here if someone else tells you that you may need a root canal. Preventative is SOOOO much better!
