And for my first time, this was a really great experience! First the negatives. The time it takes to get your food is extremely long and the place even on a weekday is still packed (personally, there was someone at another table constantly bumping into me). But if you can get over that, this place is absolutely insane. The fish dishes we got had the largest fried fishes I've ever seen, the fried batter was so light and airy, and the flavor of the fish was just extremely fresh and well made. I prefer the cod to the haddock due to its cleaner taste and more break apart texture, but both are really good. The shepherd's pie I got was also really good, with a lot of different spices and filling with a really nice and light crust. The only dish we got that I was a little bit skeptical about was the fried shrimp, which was good, but nothing too too special. Last two things. Our waitress was SO nice and very welcoming. She made the long wait not feel like an issue on her part, but rather just the cook time for our meal. Lastly, the sticky toffee pudding was absolutely elite. So rich and moist, as well as perfectly sweet and nicely portioned for around 2 people. An excellent cap to this overall incredible experience.

Cutting across Texas to New Orleans, I knew we would be skimming the shore of the Gulf of Mexico…read more Shut up. My review, I can call it what I want. That being said, it had been some time since I've gotten some proper fish-n-chips. I had to remedy that. Especially since the BBQ fiasco the other day, I was going to go on a hunger strike, but once I made the sign, I got potato chip fingers on it and started to eat it. So, I decided to fight fire with fire, and figured I would eat myself happy again. Which I'm never mad about. Sometimes I make myself angry just so I can eat myself happy. And now, the rest of the story. I have learned that I enjoy Cod fish for my fish-n-chips. And I think also Haddock. I am not a fisher nor a fish. So it's hard for me to say. But I know Cod is one for sure. I also sometimes have baby mouth and am afraid of new things. I do know I love my fish battered and deep fried. I also know that Shark Shack had good reviews for their fish, so, that was all I needed to hear. Plus, it was a perfect little eatery with bar seating, table seating, and gifts! So you can bet your bottom dollar tomorrow I ordered the English fish-n-chips. Boy oh boy. Just like how Britain colonized all those countries back when it was the cool thing to do, these fish and chips colonized my taste buds. Respectfully. This plate came with FIVE logs of fish. FIVE! Maybe they were tubes of fish? Honestly, I don't care what shape they came in, they looked perfectly crunchy and perfectly brown and perfectly fish. The super cool extra bonus? These fish came with CRISPIES! I've only ever seen crisps with fish from Long John Silvers, whose fish is probably as far from Cod or Haddock as legally possible. I actually think one of my pieces of fish from there had shoelaces. Didn't matter. Still ate it. Respectfully. (If you aren't privileged enough to know what fish crispies are, there little batter pieces that fry or fall off the fish as they cook. Basically little crumblies. If you make a wish over a fork of them and get the forkful in your mouth without dropping any, your wish will come true). Homemade tartar sauce was good, but there was a certain flavor profile that I wasn't a fan of. It was still good to use on the fish rods, it just tasted a little too much out of the tartar sauce field for me. The meal was wrapped up nice and tight with lovely square-cut fries. Perfect doneness. Perfect Ketchup vessel. I could just stare at a pile of them all night. Mostly because I'm weird. We were seated promptly at a table next to windows facing the Harbor. Our Wait Staff Professional was Maricela aka "Mari"! We each ordered different Seafood dinner plates. It takes time to prepare great meals for so many Customers and today was no exception. Our small wait was well rewarded with four plates of excellently prepared fare. I noticed that the all the staff were working together to help each other serve the Customers. I looked up and headed to our table I saw Ms. Destiny with a huge tray of dinner plates high above her head. Using ONE hand! Her presentation was Worthy of any high end European dining. Excellent coordination while setting up the stand so our waitress Maricela could serve our dinner. This staff worked as a TEAM to help each other in providing Outstanding Service to go with a GREAT meal. WOW! I was impressed. My wife ordered the Bread pudding with sourdough bread. It was good! To go with our great meal there was great scenery outside. We kept looking out the massive windows at the passing personal fishing boats and the fish turning in the water. We enjoyed our meal and got a bonus when the moon came out and displayed itself in a very brilliant way. We took pictures. We highly recommend Paradise Key - Go There! People were actually fishing right outside by the parking lot too which looked relaxing... Now for the food. We started off with appetizers and it was oysters and poke tuna tower. Not an oyster person myself. Brother in law and wife had them and they enjoyed them saying they were fresh. The poke tuna tower was good but it lacked salt and needed more sauce. It seemed like the sauce was only on the plate and not mixed with the ingredients. But the ingredients were fresh and the chips were served hot with some seasoning on them. For mains we had "Fish n Chips" and a bowl of clam chowder. Well it was more of a cup as they forgot we had ordered a bowl. Flavor was there but the temp was like warm and I'm a type that wants it a little more hot. The "Fish n Chips" for me wasn't the traditional plate when you read the name of the dish. Fish n Chips for me is flaky strips of fish or beer battered. This fish was more of a solid piece and breaded. But the seasoning was amazing!! The flavor was there so that made it up for me. But I'm a guru to fish n chips so I had a different vision of it. We did upgrade to the mahi mahi on it and that was really tendered. The fries were a little bland and the sweet potatoes fries were really chewing and dry. The menu had some great options that we want to try therefore we will be back to return again. Our server was on point! Great service and all with him dealing with 2 big group parties including ours. Think his name was Victor. Again, I highly recommend this and we cannot wait to go again!!

He is usually a pretty good judge of restaurants, so I trusted his recommendation. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. Our server, A.K.--whom my dad has affectionately called "A.K. 47" for years--was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and did an excellent job. If you decide to visit, I would highly recommend asking to sit in her section. I ordered the oyster and shrimp plate, and unfortunately, it was disappointing. The shrimp were acceptable, although I have certainly had better. The oysters, however, were gritty with dirt and did not appear to have been properly cleaned before being fried. Both the shrimp and oysters were coated in a flour-and-cornmeal batter. It was fine, but nothing memorable. The coleslaw had absolutely no flavor, and I'm honestly not sure why they bothered serving it. I wish I had taken a picture of the plate because the presentation was just as unimpressive as the meal. That said, I was not expecting anything fancy, so perhaps I should not have expected much more. The atmosphere was typical for this type of restaurant--casual, basic, and nothing fancy. It appeared clean enough and was generally what you would expect from a place like this. Overall, the excellent service from A.K. was the highlight of the visit, but the food was not good enough for me to return.
