Lo and behold, my AC decides to crap out during this hot, hot summer. A friend suggested a mom and pop shop near campus. After giving them a call, I was informed that they did not work on AC units. I then asked if there was any shop in the area they could suggest. The gentleman on the other line recommended Sharer's Automotive. I immediately gave them a call. The receptionist, Tracy, was so helpful and sweet. Thankfully, I was able to schedule an appointment for the same day (or else I would've had to drive back home to Maryland in the scorching heat!). Jared, the owner and mechanic, explained to me what was potentially happening with my car. He informed me that to know for sure whether or not there was a leak, he would need to place a special dye in the system. Jared flushed out the AC system and added refrigerant. I then scheduled a follow-up. I went back yesterday to have my AC checked. Jared found some minor leaks and gave me a pair of neon yellow glasses to see for myself (which was pretty cool, I might add!). Oftentimes, mechanics may push for unnecessary repairs and upsells. However, I am pleased to tell you that this was not the case at Sharer's Automotive. Jared was very honest, and the prices were fair. I'm delighted to have found this garage!

They told me that I needed a new window regulator. I had my car at my normal mechanic a few weeks ago and asked him to check the window because he had replaced the window regulator a year ago. He told me there was nothing wrong with it and the window worked perfectly fine. These crooks wanted to replace something that wasn't actually broken. Find a different garage or else you risk being ripped off.

I then found Derek and took it to him, and within 5 minutes of inspecting underneath the car, he found the source - a control arm bushing. Forgive me, as it's taken a few months to write this review and the owner and his son's names have…read moreslipped my mind. I was in the beginning stretch of a cross country rode trip when my car started acting funny and the check engine light had turned on. I pulled off the highway and stopped immediately at the first mechanic I could find. They ran the computer to find out that it was the catalytic converter BUT I knew enough to know that just the computer test is not a definite. They guy at the first place I stopped was super pushy (told me I had to make the decision now or they wouldn't get the part), quoted me at over 800 dollars and the other mechanics there were all talking rudely to each other and didn't seem to care about each other or their customers. I got an extremely bad vibe so I looked up a couple places and found Hillside Service center. I called them up and he eased my mind immediately! He asked if they had done a smoke test or a pressure test to make sure it was the catalytic converter and they had not. He asked me if I could make it to him and he would check all of that for me. I am so happy I trusted my gut and found Hillside Service center! It did turn out to be the catalytic converter, unfortunately, but he quoted me at a much more reasonable price and he replaced my spark plugs for free. The whole process + labor time took less than a couple hours and I was back on the road heading to California. At the time, I was scared being alone on a road trip and upset about how much this all was costing. With my nerves all over the place, I found myself crying in the parking lot while trying to figure out funds to afford the work. And I cannot express how grateful I was for the father and son at hillside service center. They made me feel as much at ease as was possible in that moment. He could probably tell I was flustered so while his son worked on the car he made an effort to to have a nice conversation with me. His overt friendliness did not go unnoticed! These two men are extremely honest, hardworking mechanics and I could tell the second he picked up the phone for me. The waiting room was clean and accommodating. The way they interact with each other and their customers shows that they put love and respect into their work and their business. I will probably never find myself in Lock Haven, PA or at Hillside again but I'm so grateful that I did that day. Thank you!!
