I stopped by here on two different days for a business lunch after receiving local recommendations and looking at the Google reviews. I enjoyed their limited offering of a wet burrito and a few days later the showboat club on Texan toast. Flattop and booth seating with plastic table clothes and paper napkins. Two separate dining areas but they are basic with no frills. They appear to have a bar for limited cocktails but I definitely saw a person get a Busch light with their lunch. Competitive prices. Good to very good service depending on the waitress. No wifi. The meals weren't fantastic but were solid where I would return again. read more

Well the server told us that everything on the soup, salad bar was freshly made. It also came with a 1/2 sandwich. There was cheap white head lettuce. The coleslaw, macaroni salad and beets were SO overwhelmingly sweet. My chicken salad sandwich was huge but again, sweet. I will try this place again, maybe for breakfast. Hopefully they don't sweeten bacon, and eggs On a good note, my friends grilled cheese was really delicious. read more

Chesinings oldest restaurant Inside was very nice you could tell there were lots of locals enjoying time together old timers with their Vietnam hats laughing and having a good time. Alright. I have been to the shitboat restaurant twice now for the all you can eat breakfast bar. Both times I was absolutely disgusted by staff. First time we arrived around 1030 and we're told the buffet was open till noon. 4 of us could not even fill our plates because there was nothing filled. Two half dried out biscuits , no bacon , a couple of sausages and two spoonfuls of dried out eggs, no waffles nothing!!!! We had to ask for bacon???? Absolutely terrible!! And paid almost $14 for this all you can eat BS buffet. Tried it again a few months later and the same crap! Nothing filled up barely got a plates worth of food. This place is a complete crap hole and should just go out of business and let a new restaurant come in. read more

We stopped for dinner on a weekend and had a very pleasant meal. They had a good selection of specials, the main menu is a nice selection of American diner fare. Service was friendly and attentive without ever seeming pushy. The salad bar (included with the special) was smallish, but very fresh and good quality. The clientele maybe skews a little older, but there were folks from teenagers to retirees enjoying the family-friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend, would stop again. read more

Last time for me! We used to live in the Chesaning area and actually ate at Showboat weekly. I always enjoyed the food. I haven't been to the restaurant in several years and suggested to a friend that we take a color tour and drive out to eat at Showboat. The first thing I noticed was a "seat yourself" sign upon walking in. The cute decor of days past was replaced with torn green vinyl tablecloths at every table. The color of the restaurant was maybe grey giving off a very bland, depressing vibe. There is nothing welcoming about this place any longer from the staff or the decor. Our salads were mostly iceberg lettuce with one slice of tomato and two strips of pepper and a few croutons. They were absolutely blah and unappetizing and neither of us ate much of them. Who can make a bad salad??? My friend had the "jumbo" actually SMALL shrimp which came on a huge plate with a large sweet potato served with butter and no brown sugar. We actually were laughing at how small those few shrimp looked on that big plate. My friend tried to flag the waitress down to inquire if perhaps the "chef" grabbed the miniature salad shrimp instead of the jumbo dinner shrimp. The waitress was a rather busy gal highly skilled at ignoring us considering she was only waiting on one other table. When she finally "noticed" us, she was rather annoyed and just told my friend that those tiny little sea creatures were in fact the official jumbo shrimp at the Showboat. My chicken fettuccine was quite thick and appeared to have been setting around long enough to take on the consistency of wall paste. An average cook knows you can doctor the fettuccine up to look more appetizing by adding some milk. The best thing about the food was that neither of us got sick from it. I think it's sad to see the condition of this restaurant and the food they serve in comparison to the nice, charming, restaurant that it was "back in the day"... read more

We left after being ignored by both the host and the blonde waitress. After we asked if we could be seated the male host sat us in a booth. We continued to be ignored, and one waitress even stated to give us to another waitress! Another couple came in and sat at the table next to us, and that same waitress ( who told the male to get another waitress for us) IMMEDIATELY went and waited on the other couple! We sat while the other couple was given water and began ordering! We requested to speak to a manager and GUESS WHAT? The manager had gone home for the day at 2:00 pm! SURE!!!! Rude, inattentive servers and host. Does this restaurant train any employee, including the manager? Certainly NOT a hospitable restaurant! Do yourself a favor go somewhere else, where an employee WANTS to work and treat people with RESPECT and kindness! Go anywhere else!! read more

We were in town for an event and decided to stop by. It's right next to a malt shop. The interior was charming, although I'm not a fan of the thick dark grey vinyl tablecloths. We both ordered burgers, my husband ordered the ground beef and I got the black bean Southwestern burger. We also got fried mushrooms and honey- orange cauliflower. We also both got fresh brewed ice tea which was unremarkable-- tasted like bottled rather than fresh. My black bean burger was fabulous, although they were light on the homemade guacamole so I asked for more. My husband liked his hamburger although he had to ask twice for ketchup and mustard. Homemade chips that came with our sandwiches were great. The mushroom appetizer which came out at the same time as our burgers was fantastic the star of the meal. Hand beaded and fresh they were fab. The orange honeyed cauliflower appetizer left something to be desired. Breading was not great and the sauce was too sweet. Service was a little off as they were very busy. Everything we ordered we asked the waitress about she hadn't tried and wasn't able to give us a lot of guidance. A previous review of the salad bar was one of the reasons we stopped and the pickled brussel sprouts were very interesting! Definitely worth the try! read more

A large group of us came here for a family gathering. Most of us had the breakfast buffet. The buffet was not large but was kept well stocked with food which was fresh. There was not one thing that we didn't like on the buffet. If you did not want the buffet there were still plenty of options available to meet your taste buds needs. The restaurant was well staffed and the waitstaff was able to keep up with the customer request. When we went back for more food by the time we came back our dirty plates were gone and if we needed water or coffee the cups were full. This is my first time here since change in owners and the same home town feel was there. Looking at the lunch and dinner menu there will be something there that you will like. If you ever happen to find yourself if the the village of Chesaning, Michigan you won't have too many food options, but right along the main drag in between a furniture store and a malt shop you can find yourself a pretty good meal. This place has the best perch I've ever had. Some friends of mine and I make the 2 hour trip once or twice a year just to get a perch dinner. They are very generous with the portion sizes and your dinner includes a salad and choice of potato. Service is good and they will bring you as much tartar sauce and lemon wedges as you need. The place always seems busy, even during non peak hours. There is also a door which connects you to the malt shop next door which is owned by the same people. We were starving after a long morning of driving. Found the Showboat and decided to give it try for breakfast. Ordered the Breakfast Skillet and it was amazing! The eggs were so fluffy and the sausage gravy was to die for. The service was great too. Didn't have high expectations for this place but left feeling full and thoroughly satisfied. Stopped in today while out on a motorcycle ride with my wife. Very clean, nice interior, great service, and an owner who couldn't have been more accommodating. The mesquite salmon with cheesy garlic mashed potatoes was fabulous. The chicken fruit salad my wife had was extremely fresh. The salad bar was clean and freshly stocked. Friendly place, good service, food is uneven, mediocre. The perch itself was tasty, but spoiled by the breading, which although crispy was fried in rancid oil. Not sure how they made a baked potato tasteless..,even after adding salt, pepper, butter and sour cream. The butter and sour cream were fresh though. The salad bar was small and uneven.... Lettuce a bit rusty, whole chunks of radish, nice potato salad and pickled beets. Waitress was very nice, but did not refill water. With fresh frying oil, would have been a better experience, as it was, had to peel off all the batter. read more

Sadly, they just can't get it right. They are too busy to post on their Facebook page, they do not have a web site so they force you to call for daily specials. When you do call and they answer the phone and you have the opportunity to hear the specials, you get in you car and arrive within 5 minutes ( 6:00PM; Chesaning is a small town) only to hear "I am sorry, but we are out of pork roast". I said, but I just called. "Oh, was that you?" Really! Who does the ordering, planning and preparation? Ten minutes later, a couple came in and ordered the pork roast also. They left after they were told they were out. On another occasion, I went in for an early dinner on a Monday at 5:00PM and ordered the pot roast with root vegetables. Yes, you guessed it they were out. The salad bar is overpriced and does not include soup. The menu is very outdated and the vegetable of the day, no matter what day you ask will be green beans. If you are looking for good family cooking, try Owosso. It's worth the drive. read more

People come here because the food is good, the prices are great and the portions are generous. Seniors say it's almost like eating at home. . The waitresses become family, and treat everyone like they are family. Best value and plenty of excellent coffee keeps me coming back.
