I was very pleased when this place opened up. Right across the street from Shoprite on the corner…read moreof 26th and Broadway sits this modest butcher shop. Their meat here is great; they are known for their lamb and merguez (a really good beef sausage available mild and hot). I get a pound of merguez a week. Perfect for a quick eggs n toast breakfast and not as greasy and salty as pork/ham. It's my favorite non-pork roll breakfast meat. They also just came out with the Chicken Merguez and it is GREAT with waffles and Sriracha. Aside from the meat selection there are quite a good amount of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean spices and food stuffs all for surprisingly cheap prices. Old-school glass bottled Coke and Pepsi without that High Fructose Corn Syrup crap. Not to get on a soapbox but Smithfield just got bought out by a Chinese food conglomerate: Buy Local.

I pull up and there they are outside their shop. It was Portuguese hardwood chips. I'll get into that in a bit... So now that I'm in, I'm smelling the smoked sausage. It was unreal!!!. So I grab a few bone in rib eyes, some small steaks for the kids and a beautiful horseshoe of the white wine sausage. I've been snacking on that sausage ever since. Slight heat to it, but phenomenal. I start the grill.. These wood chips burn at a very high heat. I'm talking surface of the sun hot. The kid's streaks literally just needed a minute and a half on each side. The rib eye. Wow! One of the best steaks I've had in a very long time. Very little fat. They cut it to order (so I got two 1- inch cuts). Now grilling skill plays a part here so keep an eye on them. Slightly expensive but very much worth it. I've found my new go to place!!

This review is a long time coming. Actually goes all the way back to when they were on Bloomfield…read moreAvenue probably right around or after the time they had a fire. They were recommended by my kids and my ex-wife at the time who uses them regularly. I tried them it was a holiday I bought an expensive piece of meat. It turned out to be very nervy and not tender and I was ugly disappointed. I hear a lot of good things about this place but this is how the owner handled me. I went in with a friend of mine his name is John he used to work next door at the auto place he would regularly buy Meats there and I explained to the owner who had happened. He looked at me like I had three heads and couldn't care less. Not only did he do anything but it didn't seem to care which is fine with me. I'm a business owner in town I'm an electrical contractor. I give my business to all local places and I give a lot of business to people. That experience was a one and done for me I know now they're in Nutley and they're out of new vocation but I think I saw the true colors of the owner in that incident. It's a shame because I hear from a lot of people that their reputation is very good but it's always based on your experience
