My boyfriend and I stopped at one of his favorite lunch places when he was in college at W&J. Shorty's is a great pit stop for lunch when you're driving through Washington. The staff was very hospitable and took our orders right away. We both got two hot dogs with chili & onions. Overall I'd give the hot dogs a 3/5. The bun was too soft for my liking, but the chili and onions were very tasty. We couldn't help but notice how friendly everyone was and although we weren't regular customers they treated us as such. I would definitely stop here again when looking for a quick bite passing through Washington.

Season-less, tasteless fries.

I put this restaurant into one of three groups - a place people love, a place people hate, or a place people go to just to say they've been there. I'm in the last group. Took a friend there. Only went there because the Southern Yank Smokehouse down the street was closed due to a water problem. Visited in December 2020, when COVID was still being a raging witch with a capital "B." First, during our visit, none of the workers were wearing a mask. Ordered a chili dog and some fries. Chili dog was OK; it was a "cheap meat" dog, not 100% beef. The chili saved it but it was a sloppy mess. The fries had absolutely no seasoning on them whatsoever. The food is cheap. The workers were nice, but being maskless didn't make the best impression back then especially when the vaccine was not available at the time. Would I go back? Let me put it this way,...I wouldn't go out of my way to say "Hey, I know a place." If I'm in town and offer a dare to whomever I'm with, maybe.

Large open faced Hot Beef Dinner with fries and gravy. Soooo goooood!!!

A must stop when we visit family! I have yet to deviate from the open faced hot beef dinner plate with fries and gravy. DELISH!

Love shortys. Good food at a good price. That sounds like a cliche tag line, but it's sincere this time.

We were told it was going to be ready in 15/20 mins and as soon as we pulled up it was being bagged We got their alligator fritters, beef empanadas, gator tacos and an oreo cream funnel cake. Y'all everything was so good. My fiancée absolutely loved his gator fritters and devoured them. The beef empanadas were filled with beef, corn and cheese. They were so good and loved the seasoning on the empanada. The gator tacos were the perfect size, the gator had a nice crunch and the slaw added another level to the taco. The funnel cake hit the spot. Cannot wait to check out their new location when it opens and both of us agreed that we will be back.

Street parking available. This is more of a takeout place but there are tables inside. Now for the food! My coworker and I had chicken tacos, the gator po boy, and the chicken and funnel cake. The chicken tacos were on special for taco tuesday so they were $2 each which was a great price. They were filled with chicken and toppings but the meat was a little dry, and I think a sauce, like a chipotle mayo or something, could really make these pop! These were our least favorite part of lunch, but they were still good, I really liked the salsa. I used to work at a southern restaurant that served gator sandwiches, so I was super happy to see alligator on the menu! The gator po boy was delicious! It came with a spicy mayo. The gator bites were seasoned well and the bun was super soft and fresh. I wasn't crazy about the chips that came with it though. The chicken and funnel cake was the standout- think chicken and waffles but better! The chicken was awesome and the funnel cake was super sweet! I wish it came with like a spicy syrup or something. Nonetheless, everything was delicious and I will definitely be back, this is an awesome addition to downtown Washington!!!

Jacob was very welcoming while taking our order and even checked on us to make sure the sandwiches were good. The burgers were definitely good. Condiments were fresh and you don't have to pay extra for basic condiments. We also got a side of fries. The side of fries were worth it, hand cut, fresh, with just enough salt on them. I got one patty and my son got the double patty. The burgers and side of fries were around $25 and then tip $5 for a total around $30. My son later bought his own Oreo milkshake. I did get a sip and it was pretty creamy with just enough Oreo pieces not to get stuck in the straw. While we were there Jacob was sweeping the floors and cleaning tables. The table area was very clean. We will definitely be back for a burger and pleasant employees.
