What a hidden gem in South Chatham! We stayed at a Cape house just down the block from Short N' Sweet, and I am so glad we did. This ice cream is awesome! We visited twice. The first time was a Sunday night in May and the line was literally out of the door! And I quickly understood why. Their ice cream is soooo good. Like seriously AMAZING. And even better? The bang for your buck! This is some of the most price favorable and high quality ice cream I've ever tried. Their XXL, which is 6 scoops and huge, is $8.90. I am shocked! Staff is also super nice and explained all of the flavors we had questions about to us. I tried their chocolate, strawberry, raspberry chocolate chip, s'mores, and phantom berry ice cream. Absolutely delicious ice cream. We ordered the turtle and mint chocolate in small cups. The portions are hefty for the price, and they've introduced one of the best innovations I've seen in ice cream shops in recent years - putting toppings on the bottom of the cup as well as on top. The staff was really friendly and nice, and we enjoyed eating outside on the picnic benches. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the mood for a sweet treat! read more

How stinking cute is this little ice cream stop! Walking in I was not anticipating it to look the way it did! I love the look to it! I'm guessing it's an old schoolhouse turned ice cream stop and the decor inside is awesome. Little desks, lots of little trinkets to look at, marionettes from the ceiling, everywhere you look there's something new to see. Lots of ice cream flavors, didn't even think of taking a photos of them....next time I will!! All ice creams are hard ice cream, they offer no soft serves. For myself I chose the coffee kaluah brownie and my daughter chose cotton candy. My ice cream was delicious! Being lactose intolerant I probably shouldn't have eaten the whole cup but I did! And I don't regret it! (Kind of..). Anyways!! I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone coming to Chatham for a not-found-everywhere experience for ice cream. Kudos to the owners! This is by far my favorite place to hangout in Chatham. I frequent with my girlfriend who is from the area and knows the streets well, but not as well as her sister. I, a 43 year old man from upstate New York know what a good ice cream tastes like. My grandfather invented the sprinkle that we all know and love. His love for the sprinkle got me into the ice cream field of work when I was young, working on his ice cream truck traveling city to city. I went here again last week and got my 3rd cup of cotton candy ice cream. Many people tell me that cotton candy ice cream is for children but it's just NOT. Stopped here twice on our Cape Cod weekend visit. We had a banana split each time, and it was fabulous! Lots of fun choices of ice cream, great topping choices (you could pick 5, and weren't just limited to 2-3) and a generous portion size. For whatever reason, been calling this place school house ice cream...probably because it's in an old school house. Didn't figure out the name was short n sweet until my parents visited and they went to the wrong ice cream place. Guess I should have been more observant with the signage and the staff shirts. Heads up for anyone not in the know, but this place is CASH ONLY. Not a problem, but just be prepared. I think they may have an ATM inside, but it will be next to impossible to access if they place is busy, which it tends to be me. Best ice cream on the cape in my opinion. Like all the seasonal berry flavors, but usually end up getting moose tracks. Added benefit is that cherries, Jimmies and sprinkles are all included for free. read more

Three other spots in the area were out of it. You wait in your car and an incredibly friendly server comes out to take your order and in minutes is back with all the ice cream ordered. Meh, the ice cream here was okay, but not the best I've had. I got cookie dough, and the ice cream had that weird, artificially sweet flavor. On the plus side, the serving size was enormous (as a caveat, I am from New York, where paying $6.50 for a small scoop of artisanal ice cream is the norm, so maybe I just don't know how much ice cream is supposed to cost), and I love the wacky school house that the shop is in. read more

A double scoop banana with a waffle cone will only set you back $4.50 yet much better than giving your left *** to all the other over the top Chatham Ice Cream shops.
