Was driving home from vacation and a friend recommended this and it was so worth it even with the line we had to wait in. The line went smoothly and at a good pace. The selection was awesome and unique. I would definitely recommend checking them out. Loved it. read more

I have driven by this place for years. I finally stopped yesterday!! The ice cream was smooth and delicious. The staff was friendly and greeted us as soon as we walked in. Plenty of seating. I got a scoop of honey lavender and a scoop of cake batter and holy moly. Those two flavors are amazing together. I may have to come back and get a pint of those two mixed. read more

Meh - tasteless and artificial flavors. Ginger snap topping had no flavor. Good service and cute location.

I had always wanted to stop by this place when passing by as it looked so cool from the outside. My sister, son and I stopped on a return home one day and we weren't all that impressed. The ice cream wasn't anything special. I guess I expected more like homemade or custard or something. Staff was ok but didn't give me any reason to want to come back. So, I killed my curiosity by one visit. read more

We had a football game in the area and I added this place to my " I have to have it" area of my brain. On the way out, I made sure the kids and I stopped here. Everyone, both customers and staff were friendly. The line was long, so being able to have a lengthy conversation with the people behind me helped the time pass by. Before I knew it it was my rurn to order. There were quite a few options to choose from. I had something with wine it . . . I think it was the tortoni and it was delicious. My kids had vanilla and toppings. Worth stopping for! read more

When we were living on Long Island, there was an ice cream place called Magic Fountain out in Mattituck...(it's still there). It was hands down the best homemade ice cream around, and they offered a very wide & inventive variety of flavors. Well, since relocating to Va. in 2019, we have never been able to find anything close...until we accidentally stumbled upon Short Lane yesterday. It was every bit as good, and we will be returning. read more

I love this place, it's super family friendly and the service is always nice. I usually get the Honey Lavender flavour everytime I go here. This time they only were selling the quart size of it, but I just had to buy it anyways because it's so good! They have nice outside seating as well as a pretty cool inside. read more

Did someone say homemade ice cream? Why, yes, please! How about unique flavors, savory & sweet? Avocado, old bay, Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, milk & honey, Hidden Valley Ranch w/bacon, pancake infused with maple syrup are just a few of their non traditional ice cream offerings. They serve traditional ice cream shop fare, milkshakes, sundaes, soda floats, banana boats, pints and quarts to go. They also offer tea, coffee, and limeades. The former historic store and post office now has outside seating with umbrella covered tables. Inside there's seating at antique booths, tables with old parlor chairs on both the main level and second story. It's a cheerful old fashioned feel! The wait staff was very friendly and quick to service. There was a large party ahead of me that they made quick polite work of. When it was my turn they thanked me for my patience. They are the 2022 Readers Choice Best Ice Cream Shop in Eastern Virginia. I concur! read more

Just had the best Chocolate ice cream in my life of 56 years. "Chocolate Delora" is the name. There is a story to go with it. Stop in and try the Chocolate Delora. read more

Totally worth it! I stopped in with a friend one raining Sunday after brunch a few miles away. It was totally worth the stop. There was a cool sign when we walked in and it said, "it's always ice cream weather." Truth! We were able to sample a few flavors. I opted for the green mint chip with a scoop of chocolate. It was the perfect chocolate flavor and the perfect peppermint taste. I love that it was green mint chip. The interior was beautiful. So many vintage ice cream flare throughout. There is ample room for seating upstairs, downstairs, and outside. So much room! A wonderful place for ice cream anytime of the year! read more

Awesome ice cream with lots of flavors. Staff is always very friendly and attentive. They have a cooler with pre-packed quarts and pints to-go. Very old fashioned ambiance when you walk in, but it ends up feeling a little forced. The menu is a scattered and hard to read. The kids aren't very friendly or helpful. The ice cream... was okay. Not very rich, not very flavorful. It was all just a pretty mediocre experience. I don't know who is giving this place five stars; it's not that it's bad, it's just really underwhelming. read more

The best house made ice cream in Hampton Roads. Also available in to-go pints. And they usually have at least one, if not two, dairy-free flavors available, which is important to us because one of our kids has a deadly milk allergy. Cute, casual and comfortable atmosphere. read more

We came over here and it was better than I expected. Clean!!! SO CLEAN. Staff was SO nice. One lady running the counter, she said hello to everyone who came in. My daughter has a nut allergy and I asked if they had anything that was nut free... she said they can go get a new scooper and a fresh tub of ice cream. It really meant a lot. Again, place has home made ice cream, so many flavors, and toppings. $3.29 for a kids sundae which was a scoop of ice cream, gummy bears, sprinkles, and chocolate syurp. It made them feel special and was a good deal in my opinion. The environment is a throw back ice cream store and decor. read more

classic old school ice cream parlor with classic teeny bopper staff. The shop has a shifting flavor menu, but some flavors are interesting enough to pique interests... (rootbeer anyone?) Service and quality of the ice cream was top notch. Extensive variety of ice cream flavors, Sundaes and shakes.

I was very excited to stop by this shop for some ice cream. The atmosphere gets an A+ and the staff was kind. I sampled the chocolate ice cream and it was a no for me, very sweet and not much of a chocolate taste. But what really threw me off was I got a regular sugar cone and a single scoop. Well this scoop was the size of a golf ball if that! I don't know if the server was new or this is a normal single portion. However looking at the pictures it looks like she may have skimped a little on my cone. Had it not cost me almost $5 I may have been ok. Not sure if I want to return I'm hoping to get some feed back from my comment that this is not normal. read more

Short Lane is definitely a locals spot! They have many delicious flavors and a nice variety for almost all. I say almost because in a world full of growing allergies and food sensitivities, it was challenging to find dairy-free options for a few of my family members who literally can't have dairy. Fortunately, we were able to find a sorbet that worked, which was amazingly yummy, but they still would have loved some ice cream. Despite that one area for growth, this business continues to provide friendly service and great ice cream. Stop in to try for yourself, and check social media for the latest hours and flavors (another pro tip) before visiting! read more

OMG the best ice cream I ever had! I got the beignet flavor and it was amazing! I had a sample of the strawberry and it was so rich and creamy, it would've been my second choice. I asked for a single cone and their definition of a single cone is two big scoops! My 1 year old daughter has a dairy allergy so they gave her a sample size spoon and that was good enough for her. The girl helping me was nice, helpful and patient while I sampled about half their flavors. I live in Hampton but I can't wait to go back and take a cooler with me so I can take a pint home! Decor inside and out are both very cute and clean. Great service and amazing ice cream. Can't beat it. This place is great. The ice cream is delicious, and the prices are reasonable. We stopped here every day we were in town visiting.

We went here with our family of four and our two friends who are married based on a recommendation from one of my coworkers. We were visiting the area for the weekend and went here on Friday. It was cool to get to sample a lot of the options. My 6 year old son and I got chocolate ice cream. We both agreed it was some of the best chocolate ice cream we ever had. My 10 year old daughter got the strawberry lemonade Italian ice and really enjoyed it. My wife got the butter brinkle ice cream and really enjoyed it. One of our friends got the banana pudding ice cream and enjoyed it so much that she wanted to share it with everyone. Our friend's husband got a mint chocolate chip shake and enjoyed it so much that he wanted the larger size. They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating. On a nice day, their outdoor seating is fun with a few games the kids can play with and the adults, us, just enjoyed the beautiful day. The ice cream was so good we made sure to stop by here again when we were making our way back home on Sunday. Everyone got the same thing except for my wife, daughter, and I. We enjoyed a banana split sundae which came with three scoops of ice cream and several toppings. We got two scoops of vanilla ice cream and one scoop of chocolate ice cream. I really enjoyed the chocolate ice cream and caramel and bananas. They cut the bananas into thin slices which made eating it really easy. My daughter got two scoops of cookies and cream ice cream and really enjoyed it. When we are back in the area, we will definitely go here again. read more
